VN - Ren'Py - Completed - Retrieving The Past [S3 E.6 & Epilogue] [MrKnobb]

OK first up this is a VN with very clear choices relating to romance path you want. Secondly, despite the start there are limited love interests (two in part one with a third added in part two) no need to worry about third path in part one as you get to choose path again at start of part two.

Next although there is a MC this is not only character in story, there are other stories and relationships that intersect his story that are not love interests and develop in parallel. This is not anything like cheating or NTR and add a lot of really nice H scenes as well as really adding to story.

OK now to review.

Story is amazingly good, and the characters have depth and despite the fantastical story the characters are very realistically done with every character having believable personalities and motivations driven by own values. The story and H scenes are fast flowing without been unbelievable even if the driving force at start is fantastical

H scenes and women are hot and plentiful just don't expect the MC to be center of every relationship and sex scene. Your not getting cucked or cheated on just yours is not only story that happening.

There's plenty of humor that doesn't detract from game.

Its a fast paced thriller with lots of h scenes with very good writers that use some brilliant techniques to really get the feel of just where MC is at mentally at time.

So played the series one and I was about to go to Patreon to pledge. However, series two left me irritated. It's like this game can't figure out what type of game it wants to be. The dev talks about no NTR yet constantly talks about rape in an almost obsessive way. To me that borders on NTR especially with Vicky. Then he mentions no incest, but yet you have sexual content with your maybe might be a daughter and this happens with more than one girl. Then there's the plot like other have mentioned there are like 3 different plots and they don't mesh well I mean at the beginning I thought harem, then ok maybe just mother and daughter, but now I'm like wtf am I reading is there a goal to this plot and it's many many subplots.

The game has three main plotlines. The love triangle, the revenge story, and the mysterious superpowers. That's a lot to handle already, but instead of focusing on them, the game goes into detail about criminal organizations and a bunch of soap opera stuff with side characters that really don't need to be in the game. It's extremely bloated at this point and all three of the major plotlines are suffering because of it.

You have very little control over the main character. It's basically a kinetic novel pretending to be a game. There are only eight choices in the game so far, and six of them are about choosing between Victoria and Nikola. Sadly, those choices don't amount to much of anything because the game forces the player character to do things that go against what you have previously chosen.

The writers are focusing on creating shocking twists rather than steady plot progression. It doesn't feel like we are making any progress in the story, just that things are kind of happening all around Jensen and he's just along for the ride. He's also forced to do a lot of stupid things in order to set up these twists, so I don't find him to be a very compelling protagonist. The story is very convoluted, as important plot points are glossed over frequently and you end up wondering what on Earth is going on in this game.

Disliked:

-The MC come strait from a teen drama, perfect in every way, rich and horse dicked.

- The game don' let you choose the mc name. I mean, i could have copped better with Mr.Perfect if i could have named him "Dickface" or "Horsedick"

Let me just start by saying; this is one of the best "games" out there. It actually plays like a novel more than anything. There were a few choices in Ep1, but less/none in Ep2 if I recall correctly...


The rends are beatiful, and the locations are varied in such a ay that you actually feel that you're part of the world being portrayed. And the girls... oh lord they are gorgeous. Not over-the-top, but porportioned beautifully. And there is someone for everyone, whether it's the big-titted MILF (An), the cute girl-nextdoor (Pe), a sexy asian (Me) or a nubian queen (Ab) you're after.

The story also constantly keeps my interest peeked. They have managed to create interesting multifaceted characters, and carefully give each of the characters their own distinct personality and story.


I'm in awe of RTP and look very much forward to the continuation of this one.

I'll get right to the point - this is a game that I want(ed) to like: it's a sex VN with an action-adventure story-line. This could have been great...

BUT

...the editing - the way this is assembled - is among the worst I've seen in a serious VN. There are a number of jarring discontinuities that occur in the seeming absence of scene changes and these make you wonder if you are missing things such as dialog between characters. Also, there are several points that, after making a "do this / do that" decision, the MC would have had to be in two places at once.

There are so many of these issues and they're so disconcerting that I'm not going to be able to play through. Best of luck to the author, who might have a great game if these pervasive issues can be fixed.

This is the first strictly adult oriented game I actually played on here. Many months ago, before I ever thought of developing or co-developing a game of my own. Thanks to Knobbs for also getting me into these games in the first place.

So more and more I explored, downloaded and played the games on F95 (heaven, literally), the more I got aware that most of the adult games forgo a semblance of story and complexity in favor of faster to chew sexier content. While it certainly appeals to a part of the crowd, that has never been my favorite type game. It is rare that you find a game that has a good story, one that makes sense, where characters aren't blown completely out of proportions, and it's still a fully adult game.

RTP is one of those. First of all, excellent writing, excellent story. Beautiful renders with normal and realistic models. Third, a portrayal of relationships at a level that is just better than 90% of other things I played out there over all these months.

Due to the complexity of the story, the game can sometimes feel slower, and I am sure some would think since it's for the most part pretty linear, that it is also simple without giving it a try.

This is one of my most favorite games. I can't wait to see what's going to happen next. 5 out of 5 for MrKnobbs for this game.

Excellent game. Sort of porn meets action film meets Harlequin novel.

Porn: there are lots, really lots of beautiful girls and a lot of hot action. The girls look natural to me, no humongous tits and arses but lovely shapes.

Action film: the story is unlikely, complex and hard to follow but very, very entertaining. There's thugs, rogue soldiers, a shady government complot, lots of secrets from the past (hence the name of the game) and a good guy fighting for a good cause.

Harlequin novel: all the girls fall for this dreamy guy. He is strong, rich, charming, has a righteous heart and he looks like Jaime fucking Lannister. And he is well endowed, of course, more than well endowed. There is no competition for us, regular guys. But there is a sweet love story going on. I hope that on the last page Vicky and Jensen will be together. And that then all the other girls will join them in action .

Seriously, a very good, very well written, very original VN that stands out from the great majority of the games around.

What can I say about this VN? What an immersive story.

The Good:
--Amazing renders. Beautiful and beautifully different, gorgeous women. It's not all women with big breasts. Yes, they're beautiful, but there are a plethora of body types, races, and ages, . . . . . and they're all gorgeous in their own way.
--The story. Take out the porn and it's worthy of movie treatment. It's very well written
--The women are interesting, have agency, some damaged, some not.
--There are some genuinely tender moments in the story

The bad:
--It's mostly a kinetic VN. Very little actual choice or gameplay. The story is well written and sexy enough that it won't really matter. But, understand what you're getting into.

Be warned:
--There is some rape content in the story. It's off-screen, which is why it isn't in the tags, but it's brutally and unsexily presented as it is IRL.

One of the better visual Novels I've ever read. Worth the download, if for nothing but the story.

In general this dev would be better suited for smaller, more contained stories with fewer characters. This game is all over the place, with many plot points going absolutely nowhere. At times I got the feeling the plot was changing just to accomodate and introduce whichever new hotness dev managed to make in DAZ. With the exception of the two main chicks, there is no way to remember who all these side characters are, after an update or two, without going back. And on top of that, there isn't that much sex in it to at least keep you interested. Well...at least it looks pretty.

Adult VN with action/mystery elements. There's something big going on in the background with parties all around the globe meddling in. 4 stars because dialogues need to be more natural. Humor is great. Victoria best girl. Well worth checking out.

Oh boy...

Okay, that's a tough one.

In a VN, I'm looking for a good story. I don't like too much cliches, but a few are fine - suited, sometimes, you know. Although, since starting to play adult VNs, there are some I really dislike. Like, the MC having some baseball bat between his legs, and all the girls thinking only about sex, all the time, not being jealous over anything... All guys disarrayed fantasies that I find difficult to read into.

Starting RTP, I was immediately sure I won't like it. Thought, I will rush through this, it's going to be meh anyway, it's exactly the usual nonsense I don't want to lose time about.

Wrong !

This game actually starts on this path, but you understand there should be an explanation to it - waiting skeptically for the confused scientific explanations, you get some... But the story wraps itself around it so well that you don't mind. At the same pace, you start to understand there is more under it than what you first thought, and curiosity will start to work its way towards you.

It complexifies so much that I was completely won over by it. It went from a weak 6/10 to a nice 10/10 as the game evolves. Really loved it, one of my best now.

If I had to find things I don't like - until now I didn't find a girl that really mesmerize me in the game... Although Eve is maybe going to change that, I like her very much right now ! We'll see what the future brings... Also, on the gaming side, there are really not a lot of choices, and those have very little impact. It's more a story than a game.

An awesome story.

Whoever rate this game above 5 stars let me know time and place where we will beat our asses. This game has an background story that i believe MrBossKnobb will develop on the most awesome way possible. Overall this game has it all: Awesome 3d Renders, Awesome Animations, Fucking SOUND and an Awesome storyline that allows the players to choose the direction of his relationships with every woman he imteracts with. Amazing work MrBossKnobb.

This game was a ride down to hell. Episode 1 to 3, were sloppy, boring, and I couldnt embrace the game as it was, I seriously couldnt get myself to play continiously without stopping every 5 minutes because I was just bored, everyone just wanted to have sex with the MC because why the heck not, the girls had 0 to no personality, they werent emotionally atractive, and it all went way too fast.
Now.
From episode 4 to 6.
Ohhh boy, I rose back to heaven. The charactets started to feel a lot more fleshed out, the story really started to pick up, I finally felt that there was some meaning in the story. The writing became way more interesting, romance started to blossom, girls definetly had way more personality, We started to have something to look forward to, sex with nicky or Victoria for example, what will happen with the daughter, Mei and all these newly introduced plot twists.

Definetly a game to give full chance, not half walkthroughs, and have the full feeling of it. Looking forward for more!

It's got a great MC, who's a mega-hunk with a heart of gold, so if you're into imagining yourself in the shoes of one(who doesn't?), then this is already a great selling point.

But the story is not just chicks throwing themselves at you. There's greater forces at play here. Plenty of military/spy intrigue and action to help you immerse yourself. It's a proper story set in a proper world. It's just that you're irresistible and most of the female characters will swoon over you at some point

The writing quality is up there - so no disappointments in that department. The renders are also pretty good too and there are many girls. However this is not so much a fuck fest as it is a spy adventure with lots of sex.
There are also many "Easter Eggs" or crossovers for those of us who play lots of other VNs, and those are always fun to discover, so enjoy

I gave RtPR 5 stars simply because it is a very well put together, and detailed oriented VR/game. The renders are done nicely, the story is although not entirely unique, it is however done right. It also has room for so much growth in the game, I can see the Dev putting several more years of materials should they truly want to.

I've played through several times now, and each time I never grow bored. When you read the tags, does it look like it would stand out? A little. The image shots, do they scream out unique? No...not really. Now that all being said, once you dive into the play, it reaches out and slaps you with "This is going to be enjoyable.". Having played other similar themed games already, this would definitely stand out and I'd say is in my top 5 games period.

I am personally looking forward to seeing more, and would really recommend giving it a try if you haven't already.

Mh.... I really don't know what to say.

At first I wasn't really impressed with the story, probably because of the entire "oh my dick got bigger and suddenly I am all horny and the girls are throwing themselfes at me". Felt more like a simple "just lets fuck our brains out" game. At first, mind you. It didn't get better as he got to his Doctor. Hell I thought "Yeah Doctor, allright lol, get the action done."

I think around the University-incident I really started to feel that there is story involved. And now after reaching the end of chapter 6 it really paid of for me to stick with playing it through.

Though I just started playing this game in its remastered form, I still found the, now blurred, cameos of some characters. First I didn't suspect "Andi" for who she originaly was, at least not until she talked about her acting and the dude with his bucket list. And as I found later my suspicion was correct during the concert. After reading all the posts in the Thread of this game, I find it still sad that the crossover had to be ended. But its understandable and I still found it fun with what remains of it. A job well done instead of just entirely ripping it out.

The same goes for the avoidance of incest-content so far. True there are some games out there that go without said content BUT some are obviously just rewritten to abide by patreon rules and some of them just feel... forced? At least in this game the MC seems to be genuine in being conflicted about his sudden sexual desires.

Another thing I liked about this game would be the breaking of the 4th wall, something that really added to the fun for me. Its better that a game sometimes doesn't takes itself too seriously. In my opinion it is well placed wit the right amount in this game and if I am not mistaken not only limited to the MC.

The writing and grammar itself was surprisingly good but, before reading the Thread, I didn't know that already someone is taking care of the proofreading. And the Dev thinking his story really through. I should have suspected it with a remastered version, though thanks to other so called "remastered" versions my expectations where very low. But my expectations where betrayed and in a good way.

The graphics are well done, though there are some scenes that feel like, for lack of better wording, a puppet show. But they are few and can be overseen. And the characters feel original and not just taken from a source and used without tweaking how they look. At least for me there was great work put into them, a great plus I believe.

Overall I really liked the game and the slow start had me really fooled. Whoever reads this review, I can just tell you, play the game and make your own decission if its good or not. It is worth the time if you give it a chance.

As you see I don't have much to say on the negative part, aside from the start of the story, so I rated it with 4 stars, though I would rather give it 4,5.

Review of ep. 1-6 v.0.6.0

First I'd like to give an alternate opinion with regard to another review here by Kukothemadhatter. Their review almost scared me off from this game and, while I respect their opinion, I wanted to express my own so other empathetic softies like me are not similarly scared off and can enjoy this game. While certain elements in this game are most definitely disturbing, I found none of them even 1/100th as personally upsetting as a certain event in [a certain other game redacted due to reviewing rules 2019-02-26] (an otherwise amazing game). You can see my question about this in the discussion thread for this game for other people's thoughts on the same matter. Please don't reply about it, however, as a moderator has asked such discussion to stop.

That done, let's talk about Retrieving the Past. It was a tough decision for me to choose between 4 and 5 stars on this one, but I finally decided on 5. I'm fairly certain that by its completion it will be a clear 5 stars. The developers seem quite dedicated not only to continuing the project but also to improving their own skills as they continue.

It starts out a little rough, but I recommend sticking with it. Some of the early renders were not great, particularly Nicky. But, by the end, the renders are generally quite good with a lovely female cast. The personalities are varied and interesting. And I cared about them and their stories. I really applaud the writing for this last element.

The star of the show, however, is the main character, Jensen. While I'm disappointed (as always) at the lack of the ability to rename - in this case surname, given name, and nickname should have been sufficient - I was otherwise very happy with Jensen. He has all the characteristics I like in a MC: adult, experienced, intelligent, good looking, fit, and hung like a horse (although this last one is a bit variable throughout which I found a little disturbing #BiggerIsBetter). He's also "good" to the point of caricature, but I like that except for the fact that I want him to be sleeping with allll the girls and seriously romancing more than one, which is hard to anticipate from such a stand up guy.

The story is really very interesting and, unfortunately to me, tends to overwhelm the porn somewhat. The writing is good although I do have some constructive criticism. There is so much story trying to be told that the scenes often feel rushed and then blip to another condensed scene and then blip to another. Every once in a while (and not often enough for me) a sex scene is inserted and they tend to be very short. This left me both feeling that the pacing of the non-sex side of things is rushed and information dense (needing a little more light conversation, humor and such for decompression) and the amount of content in the sex side of things is underdeveloped.

Additionally, I'd like to see more choices even if they just change a little bit of dialogue but don't change anything long term, just to add a little more agency. It does feel a bit like a kinetic novel at times.

That said, I'm very much looking forward to more and the developers are doing a great job weaving an interesting and sexy story.
