I originally stumbled upon this game by accident years ago when I was going through my “searching for lesbian games” phase, and when I learned that you can avoid sex with men and do a lesbian only playthrough, I became curious and downloaded it, and I’m glad I did as it's one of the best adult games I've played in a where.
What I like about this is you can decide Catherine's personality, whether you make her a hero, a selfish bitch, only interested in girls, or a nympho who fucks anything she comes across. Again, the choice is up to you, and I wish more adult games would offer this level of freedom.
I also like how almost all sexual situations aren’t forced upon you unlike many adult games as you can just choose the appropriate dialogue option rather than the main character being railroaded to being groped or molested by whatever perverted person or monster she comes across.
I really like the art for the background and characters. Plus the small details like Eleanor and Seralli blushing are cute in their own right. I just wish there was more CG art rather than the ones for the sex scenes, you know, to help flesh out the world more. Like the fight encounters for one.
A gripe I have comes from the plot. The whole plot of Catherine trying to pay off her debt gets tossed aside very quickly around chapter 5. Same thing with Jean who was built up to be an antagonist to Catherine but that gets quickly resolved with very little payoff.
Another small gripe I have is with the writing. No offense to any of the writers, but when I read it in my head, it doesn’t sound natural. Almost like Engrish.
Another gripe I have with is how the character sprites are handled as some of them are inconsistent. Like for example, in the opening scene, Catherine is supposed to look tired and disheveled, so naturally, her hair is supposed to be let down until it is put up when she’s inside, but it’s not. Another scene says that has let her hair down, but her sprite isn’t changed to reflect that nor for the upcoming CG art, same thing when Catherine is dressed in a bunnysuit but doesn’t include the ears. On top of that, some characters that are named don’t have sprites accompanying them. Plus some sprites are like I mentioned, inconsistent with what’s going on, such as at one point, both Catherine and Eleanor are supposed to be naked, but for whatever reason, Catherine still has clothes on. All of these just ruin the immersion in my eyes. I wish the artist would have gone back and correct these inconsistencies such as giving these aforementioned characters their sprites.
A final issue I have are technical ones, like when you start a new game and you get to Catherine’s house, other tabs show characters you haven’t met up to that point, there is also one task that has me meeting the Emperor and I keep getting the same task repeatedly. Also, there’s the issue of both the scene and CG art gallery as some are unavailable or don’t unlock regardless if you played through the scene or not. There was even one I unlocked and I haven’t got the art for the scene which is a straight scene and I try to avoid all straight scenes in my initial playthrough. Plus, I have encountered a few typos and grammatical errors here and there.
I would’ve ranked it a little higher if it weren’t for these aforementioned issues and I hope these aren’t carried over to the final product.
) ... then why not?) Solid writing, interesting story, hot and likable characters... my only complaint is that the game eventually ended (and possibly there can be more pics/animations)!
