I realize it's probably a long shot, but is there any way to translate even a portion of this game (like menus) even with MTL?

I agree this should be translated.

If anyone's willing to try A LOT of the game's text is actually stored externally inside the data folder as just random .txt files.
The all important main menu screen though is hard to find.
