I had this problem before where I saved but it showed an error. In my case, it was because I changed the game file's attribute to hidden. If you also changed it to hidden then undoing it should fix the problem

Yeah, it's a bit confusing, made it more clear in the op. 1.01 append is the game version, 1.03 is the latest tl patch.

It does. Just keep playing. Book 2's around Ch. 5 I think. Book 3 is around the last chapters.
