Well... About that. They don't actually seem that happy. After I sent them the translated game files yesterday, they responded nothing to me. Instead, they made several tweets about how they received a suspicious translation from someone, and it looks suspicious that I modified the .js file manually, and that I might have inserted some malicious code, etc. Also they tweeted something like "if it's AI translated, I'll refuse". Even though I never planned to hide it is. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I mean, it's understandable tbh. I still hope they'll try to communicate, but it doesn't look too bright.
I'll still polish the translation, just because I want to. Don't like leaving things half-done.

Ah I see! Well I understand their suspisions after all not knowing about the translation and the files you sent, you did explained in detail what you did right and weren't vague? It's best to explain in full detail to a JP creator, what tools you used and such too!
Don't be dissuade and continue to communicate with them, apologize if you must if you didn't explained in detail and just tell them that you really wanted to help translate the game for everyone in ENG community to enjoy.
Don't hide anything and don't take too long to respond, otherwise they'll lose trust in you and that'll be sad...

From what the author is saying so far, they sound like they don't want it. They say something like "what if there will be bugs", "what if there will be unintended expressions", etc. These problems are easily solved by basic cooperation, and they sound like excuses to be honest, which I don't understand really. There are a lot of free MTL patches on DLsite. And I offer mine for free to the dev, so they lose nothing by releasing it on their side after some basic QA. So I suspect there is some other reason they just don't want to tell. Also the only way they communicate is on Twitter, because it's a public platform. When I send them messages privately on discord and email - ghosting. I'm kinda disappointed at this point.
They also said they don't want any game files to be released publicly, so I think about removing them from this thread, until I find a way to compile a patch without them. Or maybe I just leave it as is. I'll think for now.

Sorry to hear how you felt about this all, they're probably not sure how to feel about someone translating the game fully with the js file and such!
They said that they'll allow you to share the patch, just that they rather it not being the index.js file.
I think they believe that just the index.js file is enough to play the game but just with text, I've already replied
to them saying it shouldn't be possible as it'll require the exe, dll, etc to run and it'll still crash due to missing imgs, etc.
But I believe it's because it's their own code that they don't want out since it requires buying the game to get it.
Oh well, I understand how they feel! Wish you the best on figuring out how to create a patch file!
There should be some easy programs out there that can create patch files, like diff patch (not sure if it can be
made executable or something.)

It's very easy to compile an .exe patch. Once I get home, I'll make one. The only problem is that it would still require the player to pack/unpack the .asar archive. Maybe there will be a way to make the patch do it itself. I'm not sure how though, will try things later.

Happy to hear! Creating an exe patch can work, I guess you can make the exe file...use 7zip (Command line?) and apply the patch to the app.asar file?
Or use a diff patch if that's possible...or whatever method you believe will work!

You can explain that you're going to create a patch, wish they replied to your email and so forth, just to lift a weight on your feelings heh.

You have your feelings, but it's also because you understand the creator having fears and feeling suspicious about an overseas person not sharing like say a csv of the lines translated but the whole js file...based on what they tweeted, they were surprised about it all thus tweeting.

Well, for the latter part, this *is* a piracy website. Up to you if you're going to leave it be. I suppose they mentioned they reviewed the work and how it missed intended nuances, which I suppose is a valid concern for the author.
For what it's worth, the dlsite free mtl patches are trash, but then again, not all of them actually undergo through it.
I suppose since the author mentioned training his English he might as well translate it himself. Though yours is fine and you can share it independently. I guess all it means is that he doesn't want to be associated with AI.
Yes, and they still exist. Therefore, I thought mine would be fine for sure, since I think it's better.
Anyways, the author messaged me that they are planning on releasing a translation in English and "other languages" and there is a discussion about that with someone, but nothing is certain. I think, they might think that people will not like the game with this translation, and want to wait for a professional translation instead. Which is fair.
And yes, this is a piracy website, but it wouldn't feel right at this point after all that hassle. Especially since it doesn't seem that hard to do as they wish, and since the game itself isn't even allowed here.
It's also possible that they felt ditching the translator they already hired would be wrong, especially if AI is mentioned. Dazed's tool is fantastic, and made even greater with gpt4, but if you don't know that, all you see is "AI MTL", edited or not.
For what it's worth, you made a great translation, and I wouldn't be surprised if the official one ends up being worse. Thank you!
One more thing: One of the people in Dazed's Discord tested out a DeepSeek translation, and said that its quality was in between gpt4o mini (free) and gpt4o (paid). So, if you ever want to do a FREE translation, it is the best option (according to them).

Ah glad to hear the author/creator messaged ya, I hope you're feeling well and less down heh.
So as I thought, since they were interested in getting the game translated they're having discussions with
someone who'll be interested in professionally translating the game, nice!
Indeed I can understand more now why they're not going with AI Translation because of quality and that they're working with someone else too! At least they acknowledge and told you that, and at least they still allow ya to translate away (but require using a patch!).
Thanks for sharing kaosss, I'm looking forward to your up-to-date translations and the official translation when it eventually comes out! (Hopefully it's as high quality or even more as yours!)

You can ask if they'll allow you to use the uncensored assets and if not,
if they'll release it when it comes out overseas in English and such!
Obviously it won't be on dlsite or JP sites but for overseas users...it can be possible.
Now about sharing game assets...if they're worried about that, tell them that they don't have to share
the full assets as it's possible to create a patch instead, which will replace the already existing censored
assets and patch in the uncensored version for the particular version of the game heh.
They can email ya the assets.
When you figure out how to create a patch file, you can ask than and if not, I'll try to help ya! ^^

Alright, so after 2 hours of trying various new (for me) things, I've finally compiled the patch. Added to the first message.
How to use: simply extract it to the game folder and run. Your version must be v1.1.2 (the latest game version currently).
The script will add the translation straight to the app.asar archive, and will create a backup (app.asar.backup) just in case something goes wrong or you want to go back to the JP version.
Before running the patch, I recommend scanning it on virustotal, because running an .exe from a stranger, without making sure it's safe, is a bad idea. I promise though, it's nothing but a compiled python script that adds the translation to the game archive.
For me it's 5/72. Which is 5 more than I expected tbh. Use your own judgement.

I'm sorry, but somehow I think they now don't want to have anything with me. That situation wasn't very pleasant to them, apparently, for one reason or another. If I were to ask them something after that, they will simply refuse.

Updated the patch to include the tutorial images. Translated Ikari's Extra gameplay part manually, since it was incomprehensible (GPT didn't know how to translate "wakarase" and "kuppuku" adequately). Fixed more untranslated text (hopefully that was all).

I told and shared the patch with Sarta, explaining how it works and he was happy and understood everything!
As long as people are aware this patch won't be officially and a Fan-TL, everything's good which you already have
taken care of ha.
Also Sarta is now following me on twitter, had fun chatting with him heh.
Oh and about the uncensored version, he said that sharing the assets would make
people assume he officially supports this translation so he said no...
But if the game gets officially translated for overseas, there's a chance it'll
be released with an uncensored version! ^^
They're still in talks and discussion for translation, wish them the best!
