VN - Ren'Py - Abandoned - Robbin' Hoods [0.4.2] [madmate.games]

I had high hopes for this game based on the reviews, but ultimately was fairly disappointed.

The game certainly has some positives: the renders are good, the story is definitely original and interesting, and it is not plagued with the language, grammar, and spelling errors that are found in too many of these type of games.

The only negative I found was, unfortunately, a deal-breaking one as far as my enjoyment of the game. The writing is extremely cringe-y, though not in the "was this game written by a 13-year-old?" sort of way that some games have. Rather, this dev is clearly trying extremely hard to be witty and funny with the dialogues and narration, but unfortunately manages to be neither. I definitely appreciate humor/jokes in these types of games, particularly when it is integrated well into the story, but this game's (constant) attempts at humor are more annoying and tedious than funny.

Also, FWIW, I found the MC's appearance off-putting, but that's probably just a matter of personal preference.

I read all possible dialogues and moral choices, replaying 3 times in total.

My final impressions were the best possible, the graphics are good, the characters are interesting, the whole plot was worth it, the animations are not bad, the only bad thing I found were some dialogues, some dialogues were totally boring and irrelevant to the story and disconnected from the proposal, but in counterpart it served to develop the characters. The difference was the way in which the narration of the game chooses to tell the choice, it is a perfect analogy to a writer telling the story of a new book and I sincerely liked that. Moral choices in this game basically serve to shape your route to each girl, usually not changing the events on each route, just lines of dialogue and some actions, usually I think this is bad, but this time it was well executed, so I ended up liking it ...

Verdict: It is worth taking a chance, I believe you can like it, just like me.

Hope the developer sticks with this game. Good characters and plot so far. A little heavy on the expositional dialogue where we are told instead of shown a ton of details, but it is far more engaging a story than most games. Decent renders and will be interesting to see how it plays in the future.

There's femdom and then there's feminazi bs. your character is treated like crap throughout the game, you get knocked out with 1 punch while 1 woman beats down 3 guys. That is just the opening scene, its cringy how badly the game goes out of its way to say how inferior men are. I rolled my eyes so many times throughout readiing the dialogue, EVERY female character is "tough as nails" its dull cringy & a mess basically

This is great. Nice renders, Models etc.. The main thing though is the story and dialogue.. The story is engaging, who doesn't like anything to do with taking from the rich and giving to the poor? ..well the rich i suppose, but screw them eh. The script and dialogue is well written and interesting enough not to just skip through, any porn game that involves words like Machiavellian and Zoroastrianism is obviously going to be above your average "wham bamm thanks for the fap man" The humour and occasional "Story teller narration" is a great touch too, nearly spat my coffee out at one part near the beginning.. So all in all well worth a play if you enjoy a good read along with nice eye candy.

I can't find anything wrong with Robbin' Hoods.
The writing is okay, in parts really good, there's humour and a lot of it actually works (and that is a pretty rare thing, so often you read a VN and just want to constantly facepalm over the lame jokes).

The characters are well done, they all have at least some quirks and specialities that make them stand out compared to the sea of boring same old same old characters so many games trot out.
They also look pretty fine AND the story is actually interesting and not just the usual bad revenge fantasy or "I wanna fuck my whole family" routine.

We often get new games here which get five star rating after five star rating, either for one great thing among many flaws (games which have great art or renders, but bad writing fe. or wonky game mechanics etc..) or just as bad as that, games which get those five stars for the "potential" the reviewer sees in them. (And we are not talking potential that's actually hinted at, no potential as in what the reviewer HOPES will one day be in the game).

Let me be frank, both of those reasons sucks and no one should give a game a five star rating for either.
A five star game has to deliver the whole package, LIKE THIS ONE ACTUALLY DOES.

Everything here checks out, art, characters, writing, humour, story and so far the chapters have a nice, fair amount of content.
If only all the games early in development with high ratings were as deserving of them as Robbin' Hoods is.

Great work dev, it might not be perfect, but it really is great and it still has (actual) potential to improve to an even better level, like when some of the weaker dialogue gets rewritten.

Robbin Hoods seems very promising to me. The characters are charming and act more naturally than in most other games. I also like that the models have a more natural look to them (different body types, without being exaggerated). The story seems to be more complex. Every character seems to have their own motivation, without relying to much on simple cliches. Robbin Hoods has much potential. Sure there is still plenty that can change my opinion in either direction. Also as a side note, sure it's a game with lewd elements, but that doesn't mean everything should be built around them. It's perfectly fine even if some updates have no or just a tiny sprinkle of lewd stuff in them. It's better to give every character the change to give that game something unique and special. I don't want a game about sex dolls, with only enough personality to support a kink. What I want is a good story, characters, writing etc., with lewd element added to enrich, but not supplement, the whole experience. For now I will give it 5 stars.

Promising game. Good renders, good looking character models, music is good (not distracting or sounds bad), story is interesting and unique enough, MC is the narrator telling the story of how he became successful after encountering the notorious robinhoods gang thieves who steal from the rich and give to the poor. Since the narrator is the protagonist he likes to call himself a hero and describe himself in a better light and pops up from time to time to skip some portions of the narrative like him getting beat up etc.... I know some people will find the mc being the narrator and his attempts at making jokes to be a deal breaker or cringy so be aware of that... Game is very promising and solid. Hope my 5 star rating will encourage people to play this and encourage the dveloper to not abandon this game

The new update was really good. It was pretty sizeable and it progressed the story well. The game is shaping up to be a really good one and I hope development continues along this course.

I still would recommend holding off before trying it simply because there isn't really much content. There's one good lewd scene currently and another tiny one. I think it will be a very good full game in a year with ideally a lot of content.

This has a good story, interesting characters, and it seems like you can choose which LIs you want to pursue.

This game has a lot of potential. The story is pretty interesting and I think most of the character models are beautiful and I am curious to learn more about them.

It currently feels like some of the choices don't matter which is kind of annoying but perhaps they will in the future. I hope to see more of the sister and I will be keeping an eye on this game. Probably wait a couple updates before trying in my opinion.
