Before I write a scathing review, is there a known fix for the noticeable lag between input and outcome? I'm brand new to this game, and while I love the idea of it and love the source material, if every single action I take is going to be accompanied by noticeable lag, that just sucks all the fun out of it.

I've tried the game on a budget HTPC and on a top-of-the-line gaming system, and in both of those the game lags after every input. I loaded up the modded version to test out and it seems it doesn't have that issue.

Is this on purpose (can't imagine why) or a coding bug or... I dunno. The game is 8 years old. It makes no sense for such a bug to have survived this long.

Perhaps there's a setting in the options I didn't notice?

The lag issue is actually fairly recent, like, with every vanilla build that was released this year.

Since I'm just starting the game, is there a build I can download from before the lag was introduced? Seems like it would be a fun game, but the lag completely kills the experience for me.

I would suggest the Prime mod version, as a lot of work was done to clean up inefficient code/scripts and it runs really clean. Probably the cleanest version currently out there.

I agree with that.
Here is a description of what the PrimeMod changes and links to the latest version.

Try changing settings shift+g or whatever. They seemingly? Reset every build.
