I think all challenges are beatable if you make the right choices, but that can include choices before the challenge starts. For instance in the first challenge, you are forced to partner with Tessa if you didn't befriend Marazet or Rhianna, and Tessa will always beat you if you didn't learn she's crazy before the challenge started.
