Ren'Py is more versatile and better for presenting most types of adult content, RPGM comes pre-loaded with a functional game framework which saves some work and makes it nigh impossible to fuck up the basic non-porn game mechanics.

Ren'Py

There are too many RPGM games that do not take into consideration the mouse or the controller, suddenly we end up playing the keyboard, and personally, I prefer to play with the mouse and have a free hand to do something else :)

So, I don't even bother testing RPGM games anymore, I don't download any more.

If I had to guess most people are going to say Ren'py. Me personally I would say RPGM mainly because I prefer RPGs to Visual novels. Functionally I think they both do what they are designed to do well and the problems tend to come from when you try to force the engine to do what it isn't designed for. I mean you can make a visual novel in RPGM if you want I guess, however why do that when there are better engines designed the job.

So which RPG game is your favorite?

I dont think that Renpy is better, it depends more in the game. As long as the game is good it doesnt matter what u use to create it.

The big problem many RPG maker games is that the worlds tend to be empty. Yes you can freely move around the map but you tend to be railroaded, I mean just look how much freedom you had even in Dragon Quest for the NES compared to your run of the mill RPGM game where your simply looking for the next trigger to advance the plot. True not all RPGM games suffer from this but it is a common issue as you really have to make a more open world before RPGM can actually start shinning.

To be honest both are equally good. Both are engines used to create games, so really depends of what game or preference the person has. I've seen some awesome RPG games, bad ones too. Same counts for Renpy. Altough if i would code myself i would go with Renpy, much more freedom and customization due to it working with python.

Well. I can't choose between the two . I like RPGM games for certain things >> Turn-based combat and animated H-Scenes for this platform are a must, so if a developer is making a RPGM game to be like a VN with no Turn-based combat, then I'd ignore it, cuz I could just play a VN/Ren'PY game. I play VN/Ren'PY games for a nice story, animated H-scenes, and hopefully a well done sandbox >> Turn-based combat for this platform is more of a maybe, for if I'd like it, and depends on how it's implemented.

It's a simple plugin script that exists for (most? all?) RPGMaker. Some devs just don't use it, but no idea why.

It is simple script you just drop in. Tho I've never created with RPGM (any version) so not really sure. Seems some of the older mouse systems were buggy and just don't work right...maybe that's why?

If VNs, then renpy for sure. However, RPGs with interesting stories and good battles are my preferred type

Renpy is a Visual Novel Engine it makes storybooks, it's not a game engine.
So you can't really compare the two.

If you want to make a Game, and you like the way that renpy handles text and pictures, renpy is open source, so you are free to use part of the renpy code, in your own project... several devs have taken to wrapping renpy in Unity for their projects.

RPGM is an engine, so why compare RPGM and Renpy, when I can't compare them to Unity or any other engine out there?

I prefer RenPy for most projects. It's easier to fall into the story (when the writing is good) with RenPy as you're either clicking or tapping space/enter to move forward.

The only RPGM game that I still check in on is the remake of MyNewLife, as the original story was really engaging. There was one project set in a medieval themed world that had potential but finding the triggers proved to be too much for an idiot like me and I gave up on it.

Only for real 3D games. For 3DGC Visual Nevels, Ren'Py is better in every way from the player's point of view. Ren'Py is less hardware intensive, saves and loads work fast, there is a rollback function...
There are solutions that add some Ren'py features to Unity. But from the player's point of view, it brings no advantage over Ren'Py.
In addition, in Ren'Py it is easy to create an Android port.
