You can move around by clicking the square you want to move to, also interacting with objects by standing on the square it's on or clicking on it. The customization before the game works in the same way. You're able to see a picture of your character on the side of your screen. The start of the game has you exiting from a chamber of fluid in a lab to a from a place with only monsters, at least for the first minute of time I have played the game. You have to flip a switch to open a door to continue forward, and the first monster you meet is a slime monster.
