A bit confused about why this whole compression thing is a huge massive issue, since don't most people just use it for like phone wallpapers and jerk off to it anyways? Why do some people need them to be the highest possible perfect picture how far are you guys zooming?

Well, he sells his work. I think I (or any other customer) deserve best possible quality for spending my money. Actually it's not something very hard or impossible. Many other artists adds .psd to high tier, and I don't think it's doing them any damage.
PS. I know that we on pirate site, but I think many of f95zone users supports some artists time to time.

Yes, there are these artifacts but they are barely, if at all, visible to me. I use his Artwork on my Phone and PC (2 4K Monitors and a connected 4K TV) and don't see them unless I am really close to them and/or zoom in.

If he's doing automated batch saving, he could at least use a higher quality .jpg instead of the garbage compression he's using now. Unless you have a totally potato PC or something that's ancient, 15+ years old, the computer should let you save in .png format.

I have .jpgs that are like 14K (14000x6000) from other artists and they look great for being .jpg, no visible banding or anything. So it's not the .jpg format itself that's bad, it's just the settings he's using for .jpg that's junk.

Nah, it's just like many ppl already said, the amount of variants, his basic image resolution is 3000*1688 px, as JPG it's taking around 2 Mb, saving it as PNG/PNG-8 will increase the size 2 or maybe 3 times, so his set will already be up to 300-400 Mb. And it's not his "premium" one, which usually have 100+ variants, not counting the "sweat" or "no warpaint" options.
To be fair, I'm surprised no one in his twitch chat hint him on using better compression methods, but since it is for his Patrons, I can conclude they are satisfied with end result regardless the artifacts and "moire" effect. It's the bootleg crew here, who demand their 18K PNG-8 lossless packs without giving a single penny to creator.

You're right, some of us do when the artist doesn't overestimate the value they provide. I've ranted about this before, but the vast majority of artists just follow the lead of others by making you pay for a pack of art, most of which you probably don't care about, or they charge an outrageous price for a single piece. It might make sense for a subscription, but why do I need to buy the entire pack on Gumroad for $16 to get the one piece I want? My other option is to subscribe for $10 monthly to get a lootbox of art each month that I may or may not want all of, and a whopping 15% off on Gumroad, bringing the price down to $13.60.

. At the absolute minimum, he's making $6,000 monthly, and that's not even including Gumroad. At the more likely halfway income, he's making $12,000 monthly and $144,000 yearly. That's a hell of an income for drawing art online as you please, especially when it's probably much, much more than the minimum considering his most popular tier is the $10 one. Yet, he doesn't provide value that justifies the price he's asking in my, and I'm sure a lot of other people's, opinions. I'm currently subscribed to 8 artists on Patreon. Sciamano is not one of them for this reason. I have no problem paying for art when I feel the price is fair.

I'm curious on what the patrons' reaction would be if someone would point out to his patrons how much artifacting actually is in Sciamano's art.

It's kind of hard to discuss with his patrons or talk to him about this if you need to pay to get the opportunity to talk to anyone in the first place.
Also, with no guarantee that anything will change even if you paid his patreon to be able to talk, you could just end up losing your money. Unless there's a refund service that patreon has that I'm unaware of.

As for the size difference .png would bring, I just tested it myself by saving one of his .jpg to a .png with medium compression because high compression saves negligible file space (couple kb at best), if any, at much longer save times.
2.9 MB .jpg becomes 6.1 MB .png, so pretty much 2x the file size, but I don't think that's a huge issue. File space is pretty cheap nowadays, with deals on 2 TB drives going as low as $30, that's like 2-3 trips of eating out with a full meal.

Not only that but if .png is to much to ask for, at least go for .jpg with better settings.

This is just silly. I am a Patron and see the artifacts, albeit only when I look for them, and it is a non problem to me. Sometimes it is just this easy. People just don't care. I can't speak for any other Patron but if it was an as prevalent of an issue as some poeple here make it, it would come up on his Patreon. It just doesn't. So he has no incentive to change anything.

The only place i see people compailing is here. Probably on Twitter too but i don't look at the replies there anymore, lol. 90% of people here just want free stuff and won't support the creators anyway. The only way to tackle the "issue" is to become a Patron, for free by the way, and bring it up. If it hurts his pocket, he might see a reason ro change. Otherwise it is just effort wasted for nothing.

personally I don't know why someone that spends 60 bucks a year for high quality art wouldn't spend 50 bucks one time for a 1 Tb drive so they don't have to settle for low quaility high quality art

By default, yeah, but literally just googling "Batch save as png photoshop" you can find an easy step-by-step guide to not save as terribly compressed jpgs. Or he could just turn up the image quality setting on the jpgs. That's just a single box where he'd need to change a number, wouldn't even need to open a tab for google.

I'm not trying to complain as much as explain that the only reason he does this is ignorance, laziness, or stubbornness; it's incredibly easy to save higher quality images, as that's exactly what most artists do (even the ones still saving as jpgs).

if the user wants to reduce the size after they get it...fine, but png is so much better.

i use the AI apps for most jpg releases just to clean it up.
