How has someone made a renpy game that needs a data center to run smoothly?

So, I was curious how on earth someone can manage to fuck up a Renpy game to where you can actually make asset loading lag this bad and I found out why. .rpy fuckery aside,

The dev, in his infinite AI slop wisdom, is using .avif files and .png files that are absolutely fucking massive in resolution. And he's using them for literally everything. Like Helen, for example is 7200x7200. And not just for character bodies. Even for cutout eye movement sprites (so literally just eyes) to put on top of the body, bro is using these massive resolutions, lmao. So it lags the fuck out of Renpy even when the only change is an eye movement, or a mouth movement, etc. Note that it's not about filesize, but resolution size. One of his files is 13,656x3000. Hilariously stupid implementation, honestly.

I'm honestly curious which AI this guy is using to make this such that he got such high resolution outputs, or if he actually, consciously, decided to upscale them himself.

Yeah, I actually swapped some of the full-body sprites I have for myself with the ones I was supposed to use in the game, total dumbass. Hope it's at least better now, I'll optimize it even more in the next update. Sorry, guys.

Hey man, I played your demo and noticed some really cool details.


I liked the subtle Bleach references, and the strong Summertime Saga influence — especially your takes on Clyde and Roxxy, which I thought were pretty awesome.


There’s still a lot to polish and fine-tune, and I know the journey ahead will be a long one, but I’m genuinely curious to see how this adventure unfolds.


By the way, I’ll leave my own project here as well, in case you feel like taking a look.

That's not what I was talking about. I don't know what his artstyle looks like, but I did hear about what type of "art" he was making and what type of guy he is.

What does any of that have to do with self reporting though? See this is what happens when you "hear" about something. But don't actually know anything. A lot of people know who and what Shad's art looks like. Because he used to be popular as hell. His style was unique and if you were around when he was active. Good chance you would see it regardless of whether you wanted to or not. And this next tidbit might be a shock to you. But he did do other pieces as well.

I am looking out. I like the dom/sub choices and how far you can lean into it. We'll see where this goes but yeah. The performance is hell. But for a VN that isn't all that bad. If this doesn't get regular updates or comms then that's what'll kill it.

It looks interesting, but I haven't had the opportunity to actually test it. My PC can run Cyberpunk while I work, but the Ren'Py game lagged and crashed...

I hope this gets resolved in the

For any users who are dealing with the application refusing to launch, I personally fixed it by going to the game folder in the root directory and deleting the image
Called "Presplash.png" able to play it

remember not the 1. in the root folder (the root folder is the 1. with the EXE), the 1. in the game folder

If it doesn't work, let me know. I did a couple of other things, trying to fix it, but deleting the PNG is what finally let the game launch
