I am expecting Manaka will set the bar (a lot) higher. If Jaguar is still in the game, he needs to offer something a lot more innovative to stay relevant.
Roxanne is mostly playable and the authors have tried something new (like streaming to make money). The game is going to be launched on Steam this summer and mobile in the future. If you look at smaller projects like
Rena, it's nothing ground breaking (the gamplay consists of a superset of a subset of Seleka's features) but the experience feels polished. If you want something more cute and relax, there is
Nagisa. This game has good map design and the path finding is the best I have seen so far in this genre (you can even set your character on auto pilot!)
This is what I suggested to Otoha (the author of Rena) for his next game. If time and money is of concern, he should wait for Manaka's release, then look into what features he could improve on, make a smaller game out of these features and focus on a polished experience. The same suggestion could go to Jaguar if innovation is not his strength and he doesn't have funding.
