I was never in there and never saw it. But by the description I first thought "Politics?" Then last line confirmed it. If it's going to be 18+, the least you can do is leave it alone, let adults be adults, and just stop worrying about it. But this just sounds like it's more stunted adults or even outright children.

Nope, from how little I checked up on the place, Levy barely interacted/communicated there, and the place in general was nearly dead, outside of the rare post every once in a while, the last day had the most interaction I've seen on that server.
Regardless, there's a backup server that was made after the announcement, but I didn't bother joining it.

It was stressful when he was active on it, then he stopped, and now he's shut the server down since he isn't active on it.

Technically, even being on here is a form of social media. But Discord isn't bad as you are generally in a group with others of a similar interest, or you are simply a group of friends sharing stupid stuff and gaming together.

It is whatever you want it to be for the most part. Other platforms aren't as good though with targeted ads, sponsored ads that get forcibly shown to you, and heavy click bait links to sometimes questionable content.

Discord servers are generally a bit too circlejerk-y since it's out of the way and hidden in a metaphorical hole, where the only people that go there are the ones that actively search it out specifically.
This always translates to:
A: A slow server with hundreds of lurkers where nothing happens and only like 2 people talk, usually about something irrelevant like politics or money.
B: A hyper-moderated server where the artist/dev spends half their time banning people/bots and it actively harms their work ethic.
C: A circlejerk where all the users simp for the owner, borderline worship, and anyone that joins the server who is even slightly negative gets shouted at by fifty users and permabanned by the mods, which were chosen AS mods because they're the biggest simps/donators, not because they follow the rules or are great people.
D: A server where people join just to dump on the owner for being lazy/slow, and the owner agrees with all the complaints, but is too depressed/medicated to do anything about it, so they pop in once a week to complain about something IRL.
E: A 100% dead server with maybe 10 users where the owner plops in content once a month and gets a emoji or two, if that.

Technically true, but unlike Discord, this forum lacks the gamification of parasocial behavior and other shit designed to promote addiction via dopamine release, which are the hallmarks of the more toxic variety of social media.

I hate Discord because shit on it is impossible to be archived. You are not going to find anything from a Discord channel on Web Archive. Once a server goes down, it takes everything with it including files. There was a Discord server for a porn game that I joined years ago and it was nuked a few months back, taking all the user-created mods with it.

In this case, Discord is just a tool. In 8 out of 10 situations, it is not the tool that is at fault, but the people using it.

And that defense applies to about 20% of the criticism leveled at Discord. How do you apply that to DatBlobGuy's complaint that everything hosted on some old discord server is gone? What's he supposed to do? Go back in time and convince everyone to not use Discord, because it archives nothing and therefore is the wrong tool to use for anything important ever? I'd be in favor, but I doubt he has a time machine.

Honestly that should be the LAST thing on the list. Earlier in the thread mentioned a good point about only doing that in one go since they could end up putting more in later on but then wanting to change/"update" around the older ones because they may not match up or sound too crusty to the maker. Paraphrased to hell and back but that was the core point. And honestly, sound isn't that important compared to visuals and core gameplay, respectively.
Clarification: Obviously it's important in the sense that it doesn't sound goofy as fuck or flat out "mismatched". Just that it's lower priority.
Edit 2: I thought this was a different thread I was subbed to. Point still stands.

I agree, but i would appreciate some sliders for different things too.
The repetitive sounds of the machines, vibration hum and electric buzzing combined with clanging of bindings is super annoying.
