Even so, I think the main problem is that taking so long creates expectations that are too high for what the game will actually be (more or less like Hytale but in reverse). When the update finally comes out, everyone will expect it to be a masterpiece, and since that probably won't be the case, everyone who supported it from the beginning will feel scammed.
In the end, developing a porn game isn't very different from developing a normal game. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I mean, we've been told rather bluntly, that when the update comes out, the only changes will be on the back end.
We'll have the same content we have now, just maybe faster FPS.
The only thing that's probably being over hyped is the future post update stuff (how long we'll be getting those), and the modding capabilities.
Though, even that's being tempered because looking through the updates does give a fairly reasonable look at what the engines capabilities are.
Oh i know that, i watched the dumpster fire that was No mans sky. Every update lured in people who thought this space exploration game will become some advanced universe simulation and the devs rolled with it.
I don't think the pitch was a universe simulation game, pretty sure the space exploration was a consistent focus, it was just meant to be very robust, Internet Historian did a deep dive into what was promised and what was delivered a while aback.
From what I remember it has delivered on 95% of the promised content several years ago, and is still getting some decently sized updates... Yeah, there was another one just a few a days ago.
