So Crete was an Island that raised a civilization that thrived before them and I think it was from their assimilation with the Mycenaeans that Athens realized they needed too to become masters of the sea and build their navy forces. Egyptians were the friendly forces of that time with both Minoans and Athenians but later they had their own "adventures". Alexander the Great got Egypt in the end and his generals ruled the vast empire for at least 500 years or so before Romans came in there...Julius Caesar was said to have seen his body embalmed while visiting Cleopatra. So long history over the Middle East region and Asia too but further up to where was even the black sea...remember Jason and the Argonauts?
