Showing MC in 2D VN (First/Third Person?)

I'm currently working on a 2D VN and am wondering peoples' opinion on whether the main character should be shown during normal dialogue.

IMO I think showing the MC is more important in a game with a female MC, why stare at a male MC constantly on the screen?

I don't really feel the need for MC to appear during dialogue unless appearance can be customized in any way. If you can either edit your character or buy new clothes which you can wear, that's when I would show MC.
