I'm looking to build out a compendium of Side Scroller games that follow a specific set of criteria. I often hear people mention games of this type and genre but when I actually look through Steam / F95 I find very few games that actually match, especially that feature adult content.
Quickly to get a few things out of the way
- Why not just use the tags "Side-Scroller" + "Sandbox" + "Whatever"
I am finding that A LOT of games are not tagged with Side-Scroller accurately or are not correctly tagged as platformers / beat-em ups so when I try to omit those tags I am still getting games that are 100% focused on walking Left > Right of the screen whacking things and hopping on platforms.

If there's interest in it then I might. I spent a lot of time siphoning through games and wanted to share my list. My hope is this list helps someone find some hidden gem OR shares a game I missed that I can play and add it to the list. I hope to in the future give more robust descriptions of games on the list and maybe even offer some kind of score or better organize them.

Puzzle / Exploration Games
Finding certain items or exploring certain locations to progress the story.
Sandbox "Story Telling" Games
Game has a wide area to explore where you can travel around, usually with a day night cycle, usually requires you to complete tasks or wait periods of time to progress story.
Other / Uncategorized
These games are either Linear story games, Minigame focused, or just don't match with the other categories. If a new category emerges that a lot of games fit under - I'll split those games out.

- Exploration
- Finding NPCs or Secrets or Items, Completing Puzzles, Finding new Areas or Organically seeing new game content
- Stealth Mechanics
- Deep Story
- Minigames
- Roleplaying Mechanics
- Leveling, Skill Progression, Inventory management
- Day Night Cycle / Chore Routine / Simulation
- Example: Harvest Moon
❌ Game is Not:
- Should not be a Beat-Em Up Genre
- The game should not be a walk left to right punching enemies game.
- Should notbe a Platformer Genre
- The game should not be a skill based jumping / platforming / etc. exclusive game.
- If these mechanics feature in the game as a part of exploration that's okay.
- Should notbe a "Point and Click" Visual Novel with static scenes
- The game must have a navigable character that moves around a world space - either on a strict X axis or X/Y.
- Should notbe a Top-Down Game
- RPGMaker games are okay but this should be a side-scroller perspective, not a top down Isometric or Four Directional game.
- Should notbe an exclusively "Hide from Monster" Genre
- Games that feature haunted mansions, towers, hospitals where gameplay means finding random stuff on the floor and hiding in closest.

- Linear story with some choices, mostly hand hold experience where you visit different locations

- Haven't play this much - May be more open ended but similar type of game to Goons Raid Her
- Escape from the Goblin Cave
- A Puzzle / Exploration game
- ⭐ Tales of the Moon
- Puzzle solving game taking place in a Night Elf forest, moderate story telling
- Magic Sexyland
- Your a wizard who travels around a mystical land solving puzzles and meeting sexy women.
- Eroman
- A real life version of Fuckerman, Puzzle solving in different scenarios using realistic graphics / real porn clips vs hand animation.
- Leisure Suit Larry - Wet Dreams Don't Dry
- Lewd Point and Click Adventure Puzzle Game - Very Sexual but no Explicit Nudity (although there is nudity in the game file assets, it's never on-screen)

- Insexsity
- Original "Female in a Big City" sandbox style game where you do daily routines and get corrupted.
- Insexsity 2 [Abandoned]
- Haven't tried this yet - seems like a similar concept to the first one. As of writing this seems to be abandoned.
- ⭐Magic Lessons [Demo]
- Harry Potter themed open world game, extremely simplistic / basic as of writing.
- ⭐Pizza Hot
- Linear story game centred around daily routine / mini-game event - as of writing, active but very slow development, borderline abandoned.
- Hot Coffee [Demo / Abandoned]
- Intended as open world sandbox game - currently a short linear story game
- ⭐ Love on Leave
- Open World Sandbox game, Harem with overarching story, no explicit sexual content
- ⭐ Unaware In the City
- Open world sandbox game, limited narrative story but lots of exploration hooks / mini story lines
- Camp Pinewood 2
- Open sandbox that takes place in a fictional summer camp
- Legend of Krystal: Rebirth [Abandoned]
- Short simple game of a blue fox girl, was intended as a open world sandbox game.
- LOK: Rebirth
- Appears to be a sequel to Legend of Krystal: Rebirth - open world sandbox game.

- Haven't played yet - seems to match criteria though, waitress job minigame, unsure how sandbox / open world / story rich it is.
