VN - Ren'Py - Single Again [v1.25.02] [Clever name games]

Firstly let me say this, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I only wanna rate and review this game just to add a little balance. The game I believe is only 3 stars at best. I wavered on giving it 2 or 3 and decided on 2 because there's a lot of 5's and the game overall is below average when you get down to the meat and potatoes of it. It's a good 2 though not a bad 2.

Firstly lemme get into the things I liked. I like how the dev makes this game without a point system. Some choices do lead you to a game over and I believe they may have some longer ending effects where you feel like a few things may payoff later. I also liked the graphics, though it's mixed feelings on it , I'll give it more of a plus than a minus just for the fact that it's something a bit different.

The MC is in his late 30's, almost 40's and so is his ex wife, but they both look like they may be in their early to mid 20's. The girls, (his daughter and step daughters) are all over 18, but they look like they're younger than that. That is the only drawbacks to the graphics. The last thing I like was the attempt to TRY to prioritize story and the character development over pointless sex scenes. That'll always gain positive points in my book.

Okay, now onto the meat of the game. Firstly, this game likes to use A LOT of text, to get to it's point. Now while I say a lot of text, it's not walls of texts that it likes to send your way, but rather, it'll go on and on about the same point over and over when going over it once would suffice. A lot of the characters like to go over some of the same things over and over.

It also has the problem of thinking that it's like slow burning a potential relationship, when in reality it's just dragging things out ultra slow. Now sure, nobody who's related are just gonna instantly just start throwing themselves on their daughters, so the game kinda goes out of it's way to make the MC seem like he's not a pervert. Yet it really just makes him a poor character.

I look at games like DMD, that do this real well. In DMD the dad and the daughter progress at a degree that seems as natural as that kinda thing can be. Maybe it's a bit out there, but it's a game. This game just continues to trip over itself and it's plot. It's not as bad at this as Alison Fall of the Apple. But it is quite grating how this game seems to go nowhere really over a long period of time. And when you're a plot focused game and a character focused game and you're not really progressing those things then that kinda is a problem.

So yeah, can I say the game is bad? No, thought it will frustrate you if you're waiting for anything truly meaningful to happen. The plot is slightly below average, the characters are about average. You have a daughter that's pure an innocent who loves you, two step daughters, one who hates you inexplicably but it's all about her "tough outer shell" that I won't spoil here. The other step daughter loves you, she takes on the role of older sister, so she kinda backs you up against your other step daughter, while also encouraging the MC's daughter who has some confidence issues.

The older step daughter is also attracted to the MC and the tease in the situation. Idk, the characters are like in the middle somewhere. There's a lesbian couple involved, a cheating bitch of an ex wife, and others, but none are truly truly remarkable or everlasting.

This game is alright. If the art catches your eye and you have time to burn and don't mind an ultra slow burn story, then go for it. But if you want something more engaging and a better version of this story except with less family involved, then just go play DMD if you haven't already.

Ok, this game has one of the best stories out there!

I love the charakters and the build up. The three daughters are fun and diverse and the you slowly grow together.
Even though it is just v0.08 it already has a long and well developed story.

The only thing i do not like that much are the dream sequences but you can skip them so...

For now there are not many and not that much fun H-scenes butt the two biggest are good.

I just hope, there are not to many more new characters in the future!
The ones already established are good and I hope to see more of them and not a load of unimportant and "blank" new ones...

Nice setting, good looking girls (if you like this style).

But after 90 minutes playing and reading A LOT of text ... it's just not for me.
Story, character and relation building is important for a good VN, but here .....

You get long dialogs (and with long I'm talking about a A4 page long), where two images just repeat .. like "looking into your eyes" and "looking sideways" or "smile" and "don't smile".
The expressions don't fit to the text, because the two renders are just repeating every few clicks you read through the story.

And that scene I would rate 1/5.

This VN seems to have a lot of fans, but it's just not my thing.

I previously gave my thoughts on the VN, but didn’t Star it. The MC’s a bit of a ball of anxiety, can’t stop being befuddled, and doesn’t understand 18 is legal, but otherwise I really enjoy the story and characters. Cheers to the Dev on good work.

Going to review this again now that I’m caught up. It’s certainly left me feeling better than I did when I reviewed it at the halfway point. l think the points I made were valid. There’s still a lot of weird things going on in the game and they’re almost all coming from the story. It feels that the dev doesn’t know what to do with the main character. He seems to jump between confident and blushing bride. Some odd plot points as well. I get that it’s early doors and the foundation isn’t there for the MC to sleep with any of the main list of love interests but throwing in sex scenes with random characters seems forced. I’m guessing the Dev needed to in order to appease the players who would probably foam at the mouth if there’s an update with no titties.

I'm only about halfway through so far but I find this a very difficult game to play. There's a lot going on that, although not WRONG, is sufficiently not right to rub the player up the wrong way. Or maybe it's just me.

The renders are good. Clean and distinct which is a nice change but they're almost into uncanny valley territory. I don't know if it's the eyes but it just feels odd. Not to the point where you stop because it's a chore to look at but you can definitely feel it when playing. On the plus side the animations are smooth, albeit somewhat short.

Probably the main issue I have is with the characters and the story they're put in. The MC feels like a wet biscuit in terms of personality. It seems the games focus is very much on the sisters. Which is fine, but the MC feels almost hollow in comparison. It's not helped that probably the most distinct plot point around the MC is when he dreams of the day he discovered his wife was cheating on him. But it's played out like he's reliving some traumatic event (which it was) which his mind has repressed (which it obviously hasn't). I don't NEED to see the same scene played out a little bit more each night when I'm playing. It could have been done once and then maybe moved on to giving the MC a bit of a flavour. All we have by the point I'm playing is a potentially failing estate agent who is about to be divorced and lives in a one bedroom apartment with his daughter.

The premise of the whole game also seems to be a bit peculiar. As mentioned, the MC is about to be divorced from his wife, but there's a lot of talk over who will get what in the divorce. But it also talks about a prenup. So I'm not sure what the issue is as surely that means who gets what will be set by the terms of the contract? One of those plot points which will probably be cleared up as you play but it's confusing going forward. I'm also not sure how in the name the ex-wife is cool with her two daughters still hanging out with the MC when they're getting divorced. Like... sure they're adults and all but it's not even mentioned and it seems a bit of a reach to imagine she'd be fine with it.

It's also not helped that any interaction the MC has with the middle sister (Lilith I think) is always the same regardless of anything which happened prior. The MC could be picking his nose or sawing wood and she's immediately "OMG you're such a pervert". Gets old quick. I think you actually get the option to tell her to do one and she apologises but then immediately goes back to doing it. If this is setting the foundation for plot and she secretly loves the MC or something then it's a piss poor way of doing it as she's basically written as being unlikeable and as such the MC is completely within his rights to tell her to bolt.

The MC's daughter is ok but she's kind of a paradox. She acts incredibly naively when talking about things, usually when it suits the plot, but at the same time there's dialogue which shows she's actually done all manner of sexual things with Lilith. So she can't say "breasts" or "orgasm" in front of the MC, but she was in a pseudo-lesbian relationship with her step sister before they moved out.

I suspect the game will continue down that path. Any interaction with the Lilith will follow the same pattern until there's a crisis point and it comes out she secretly loves the MC or something. The eldest sister will probably make a move on the MC now he's divorced and the youngest will probably continue to be virgin white until it suits the plot then she'll probably turn into a cuck-queen or something.

damn, i love this vn, its absolutely amazing, the writing is excellent, the daughters are amazing especially Abby and Becca, but so is Lilith. I want more, i hope to see more and hope this game will be finished.
It is a slow burn though with only a few scenes, but this is top tier writing here. There are only a few games on this site that rival this one in my eyes. Cant wait for future updates, there is a whole lot of build up and no pay off as of yet.

Okay, I gotta confess - I misjudged this game at first glance. Apparently from the review section - many others did the same. The babyfaces of the girls and the not-so-clever name (lol, BURN! ) "Single Again" gives you the wrong first impression that it's another DMD-like game where an old-ass pervert is trying his best to get into his "barely-legal" daughters' pants after getting divorced, lol. But that can't be further from what this game actually is. It has a very mature writing and some well-built characters, which totally surprised me. It's more like an Adult VN, rather than a porn game.

So let's get something out of the way - this is not a good fap material - at least not yet. I mean it has got animations, but currently, there aren't that many erotic scenes. So, if you're looking for that you might wanna look somewhere else. This game is more about the story - and it really shines in that area. What I found impressive is that the story is well laid out and multi-faceted, the writer certainly did some good thinking before approaching the story - it's well planned many events are uncovered as the story progresses which increases its believability. But I wouldn't say it's "super" realistic - and I didn't expect it to be, it's not supposed to be a work of literature - but you know what, it certainly resembles one! True, there are "slips" in writing - but it still strives to portray what any work of art tries to do - a reflection of human nature. In the case of this game - a contention between fatherly love and sexual love. And, to some degree, it succeeds! I mean, it's not an easy subject to write about when you're being serious about it - that can easily backfire - but at least, this game seems to be brave enough to try. I could even just appreciate the effort, but as I said before, it even manages to pull off the basics.

Now, let's talk about the characters - I would say they're "good enough" if not "great". The MC has the greatest level of depth among any father/daughter games I've played so far - he's not a pervert - he's just a man. He really loves the girls like his daughters - and that's not just something he says to himself - the story proves it from his actions. Now, for the lewd part, I could say for sure, even the noblest of men may have occasional "mental slips" when presented with a woman's body - be it his daughter's. So, how this game approaches the erotic part is acceptable - honestly, I could not possibly ask more of an Adult VN.

What makes this game great is the inner struggle of the MC - he's struggling with the fact that he's attracted to the girls he raised - that is a profound emotional battle - the game tries its best to portray that part. I'd say, Kudos to the dev, many devs would just ignore this part, which, IMO, is actually the most important part!

The girls too have some depth to them, but maybe not as much as I'd hoped for. Well, you can still relate to them - but they're not "special" in any way. The eldest daughter is a bit more complex and has a little more depth. Well, maybe there's still time to build them up further.

Now some final remarks about incest - is this an incest game? Depends on how you define incest - and in the end, maybe that doesn't even matter. What's more important is what you're looking for in an incest game - is it the taboo of blood-relation or the emotional struggle? This game is more about the emotional struggle of a father (yes, IMO, the MC IS their father) - the social taboo is just a backdrop.

i gotta be honest, i saw this game and did not expect much. the only thing that made me give this a chance is that i thought it was cute. But i gotta say, i'm very impressed. One thing that i really like about this site, is that good woks like this is high rewarded with ratings and love from the comunity. This is a work of art, the creator does shows a lot of love for his creation. The beginig was not very captivating, but it did got better in time. and now with the new chapter, i gotta say, i did feel a lot about it. keep up the good work, appreciate your work of art.

This game is great, the three daughters are just adorable and perfect. I highly recommend. Easily up there with LomL for daddy/daughter games. CNM is also very active and takes input from his discord, which is great.

Unique appearance, feels real despite the cartooniness. Adorable characters, lot of maturity mixed with mischief.

Love the natural way the dev dodges the incest issue, without making it forced. Still titillating to those of us that enjoy some depravity, but the sweet innocence of the MC's 'daughter' and the delicious dance the MC walks, as he reconciles his relationship with all three, is believable. All the flirtation leaves the reader hungry for more, in a good way

One of my favorites for sure

Pretty surprised by this game. The screenshots really made me hesitant to try this one but I'm glad I gave it a go in spite of that.

To begin with, I noticed a lot of small mistakes in the game: clipping, posing issues, typos, etc. This game definitely lacks the polish of a 5 star game when you consider all of these problems. Another thing I noticed was that there are countless copy-paste assets I have seen used 500 times before. I would prefer to see a bit more effort and polishing put forth into this game but like I said, these problems are small and easily forgivable when considering the whole picture.

Besides these issues, I'd say this vn has a lot going for it. The story gets rather interesting and I really enjoy the characters. Often times, I find it extremely difficult to get invested in a game and actually care about the people we meet. This game does just that and I can really appreciate all of the characters. The writing and dialogue impressed me for the most part.

One issue with the dialogue is that it's a little odd at times especially in the earlier chapters conversations sound almost like interrogations: mc asks a question, someone responds and this goes on for like 5 different topics. It's not entirely natural in my eyes. Also, the "choices" you are offered are pretty lackluster and a good portion of them result in game overs. I can't say game overs make much sense to me but that's not a big deal. Anyways, the choices don't really do much from what I can tell. The main thing is there are a couple small branching paths. For instance, the most influential choice you are offered is that you can get a massage or eat dinner based. What I'm trying to get at is that this feels mostly like a kinetic novel as of now. This may change in the future but I don't feel like I can change much in the story based on my choices.

Even though I have listed a handful of issues with the game, this vn really surpassed my expectations. It's really entertaining and there's a large amount of content. This is certainly a slow burn game but that often leads to more meaningful relationships and pay off in the future. I'm going to keep an eye on this one and I recommend doing the same. The dev has definitely created a special story here and I'm really glad to have put aside my hesitations about the art and tried this one out.

Well, this one surprised me.

The writing is great even though it's a bit long-winded at points.
There isn't a ton of characters, but every one of them is unique.
The story itself isn't some great epos with mind-blowing plot twists and needless cliffhangers. It has good pacing and relies mostly on character interaction which is nice to see.
I like that the characters have nicknames, it's a small thing that adds a lot of personality to the dialog.

Visuals are not great, but they are good. The characters are a bit alien-looking, but you get used to them pretty fast.

The one thing I really didn't like was the introduction. It shows you the main characters' biographies in big blobs of text. I think it could be replaced with a quick scene that tells you the gist of it.

I am not sure how I missed this one, but I'm glad I found it now. If you're looking for a quick fap, move along. There is very little sex with a little masturbation, one dream porn scene, and NTR with the ex (with the guy she's cheating on).

The store is slowly built from the foundation with a recently-divorced dad and his actual (ok, maybe not actually his daughter but he adopted her very young) and two step daughters from the recent divorce.

Dad is the rock for all of the girls and you can see them slowly gravitating to him and teasing him in their own ways. The game is a slow build, and if you are expecting sex with the girls I would predict this would happen around version 17, like so many VNs with dads/brothers/sisters/daughters in them.

However, the girls have well fleshed-out characters, and the writing makes you really care about them and understand where they are coming from. That, and you might actually fall in love a little bit with them along the way.

I can't wait for the next episode.

Updating for v.11 and responding to some other posts. This is one of the few games where I have seen a dev brave enough to use Daz's "The Girl" model for their base products. If you like art, think the Big Eyes characters. As many said, it's kind of unusual and offsetting, but after playing the game for a while, you kind of tune that out because you become emotionally invested in the characters.

Some reviewers have panned the story, but I find it reading like a pretty typical piece of literature, with the viewer being dropped in media res (in the middle of things), and a slow build up to a climax, with a likely denouement.

Even though the MC is not "technically" father to any of them, he considers their relationship to be father/daughter, thus the incest trope. The story has been enjoyable and the development, especially in the last chapter, while not entirely unexpected (heck, it was telegraphed, big time by Rebecca) was very fulfilling and justifies the growth of relationship between the characters.

If you were put off by the "big eyes" and that's your only reason, I would encourage you to give this a chance, as it really is a wonderful and very fulfilling story.

Dude, what can I say about this game more than I fucking love it, I loved the characters, story, theirs relationship, the 3d is pretty cute, I really cant wait to see more content of this game.

The characters are a bit cliché, but in a good way. You will like most of them but probably won't be surprised or stunned. Rebecca is the most interesting imo. The MC is for now the perfect dad (maybe too perfect ?) and of course with good looks and big dick

The chara design is kinda strange at first sight but in fact you will get used to it and eventhough it's a bit irregular, it is nice overall. Lilith is the most attractive imo.

---- Story/Writing :
The story is very classic, it is a very common piece of life except that it is not very common that both step daugthers and daugthers have daddy issues...
The writting is good, there is some humor, but sometimes it is a bit scholar or repetitive

---- Background/Atmosphere :
The atmosphere is pretty nice, the loft is cosy, the pace is slow but comforting. Nothing striking but there is some effort.
The big downside is that there is no music, no sound.

---- Animations :
Until v0.6, you gonna be pretty disapointed by this as there are not many. Just a few dream short sequence, or kiss/hug animation. But don't worry, in the later updates, you will see some that are quite convincing. Not the top of the industry, but still above average

---- Sex scenes :
Strangely enough, for a game that focus a lot on love and is kinda vanilla overall, the sex scenes lacks context and atmosphere. So far, they are pretty standard.

---- Gameplay :
It is a standard VN with some choices, they don't impact on stats but they will unlock some scenes or slightly different routes. It works but you have to note that you will miss scenes coz you can't have everything at the same time.

---- Contents/Updates :
Contents are solid, updates seems to have a decent pace

Parts of this game are really good. Renders are great, animations are great, and the writing is fine.
The biggest problem is the MC is such a bitch man. He's a good looking dude with a huge cock and he acts like a baby dick virgin. He has 2 hot girls throwing themselves at him and he's so timid and scared about it that it drives me nuts.
I get that the dev wants to drag this out to make money, but holy shit dude, I don't know how much more I can click through the MC stammering and stuttering any time something sexual happens.

Let me get the bad out of the way first: The game is a massive tease. Update v0.6 changed only very little regarding that.

As you may have seen on the description-page, v0.6 removed all NTR... until I reached the very end of that update, I found this to be highly debatable.
The MC gets teased to hell by the girls, but then they rather make out with each other. All the action our MC gets is to jerk off three times to his imagination, all the while repeatedly dreaming of his Ex-Wife getting boned by his Ex-Ex-Wifes first lover... after roughly 3 hours of gameplay, I kinda grew tired of this.
All in all, the game (currently) offers three four sex-scenes involving the MC... But two of those are the MC's fantasies, which (at least for me) makes them count less. It's just not the same if scenes are simply cramped in there, and have no relevance whatsoever. Makes it feel like the dev is afraid the game is too much "slow burn", and tries to give unrelevant eyecandy without impacting the story.

Problem is: This is no longer a slow burn. It's stagnation.
I feel like I'm playing the fucking narrator.... there is almost no story-progression at all. If there is, it's because the girls forced it onto MC. After that it's back to half an hour of reading MC recapping the Events I JUST played. Followed by almost another half hour of reading MC's inner debate regarding his feelings for the girls (which, by the way, is STILL THE SAME as in the very first release! He himself made no progress whatsoever in that regard. Whatever the girls want, he does it.). By now he had sex with two of the three girls, but it only happened because they basically forced themselfes onto an indecisive MC, who has no opinions of his own. Which is funny, because I'm kinda making choices for this MC while playing this, but they feel just that irrelevant for the progression speed.
It's either: Make choices that allow the story to progress slow, or make choices that reward you with an immediate Game-Over Screen.

He's like a piece of furniture. Inactive and unmoving. I'd even go so far and say, you could replace the MC with a Strap-On wearing Teddy Bear, and the only part of the story you'd have to change would be the divorce hearing. Other than that, everything would pan out the exact same way:
The girls took their Strap-On wearing Teddy Bear to the pool and had one-sided conversations with him.
The girls start to show affection towards their Strap-On wearing Teddy Bear, but it doesn't show any affection back.
Abygail takes her Strap-On wearing Teddy Bear to her bed.
Lily gets angry because her girlfriend sleeps with a Strap-On wearing Teddy Bear, thinking she rather has fun with a dildo than with her...

People praise this dev for the "big" updates... but let's be honest here... not much is actually happening in them! They moved in, visited the pool (in their basement), MC went shopping and then had his Divorce-hearing. That's basically all the major plot-points we saw so far. Other than that, it's a whole lot of MC sitting on the couch or lying in bed, thinking about his feelings.
The long playtime results solely from MC's recaps and inner debates of the same shit over and over again, without EVER reaching a conclusion.
It's just gotten boring as hell. And the fact that roughly 80% of the presented choices lead to immediate game-over screens, and I couldn't play this consecutively for more than an hour without installing the walkthrough-mod, doesn't exactly help.

BUT!

With the last update the story developed in a direction that lead me to expect more and made me excited for the updates to come.

While the porn-content is very sparse, the renders are really good. The models looked a little funny in the screenshots, but they grew on me and started looking really good as newer characters were introduced.
And the animations are REALLY well made. Someone clearly took a LOT of time making these right. If only there were more of them...

I did not liked character models when checked the screenshots at first, but decided to try this one and was not disappointed at all. Nice looking graphics (in general), interesting and engaging plot, good writing and believable characters. If you like slow pacing incest VNs then this is definitely worth your attention.

This is a game where you get swept into the story and actually emotionally connect with the characters. Good renders, FANTASTIC story. This is on my watch list and I cannot wait for subsequent updates!
