So how do people deal with file size / compression

Renders seem easy enough to compress considering you can shave off like 90% of their size with minimal loss, but holy the videos get heavy. A 2-second simple loop on 1080p with decent lighting and slightly busy background will go straight to being 6+ mo, and considering some games have animations that are 10-20 seconds long I wonder how people deal with compression. I see some outrageously long animations being under 1mo with decent quality, when anything I put out, even after compression, is at least double that while being 5 times shorter, so clearly I'm missing something

well what video codec are you using? webm (vp9) generally gives smaller file sizes than mp4 (h264) for similar quality.

I use webm with VP9 codecs. AV1 is a bit better, but it's not as widely supported, so as a dev it's not the best choice.

1080p is excessive, just use 480p with AV1 and lower the quality level to what seems fine enough.

I was using webm vp9 already, but the quality was set too high. I tuned it down and tried 720p, the change is barely noticeable and my files are now around 500ko for a 2 second loop, which is much more reasonable.

Here's my new problem ; now my bottleneck will be images. It looks like RPGMMZ simply can't deal with anything other than PNG, even though PNGs are like 10 times heavier than webp/avif of exact same quality.

So I'm running into this weird situation where my 2 seconds 720p WEBM videos weigh around 400ko, but a 720p PNG render of the exact same scene weighs like 1MO. Twice the size with only one frame. It doesn't sound right at all, it feels like there should be an obvious option to reduce PNG size but any attempt at compression shaves off like 20% at best

I've kept all my images under 1MB using , even using lossless compression.
