Ren'Py - Something Unlimited: Themyscira [v0.30 Beta] [Gunsmoke Games]

OK, so this particular review is for people that have never played the Themyscira arc of Something Unlimited. I'll address SU veteran players at the end. Note that I haven't played SU Unity for over a year, so a fair amount of the Amazon content is new to me.

Sunsetriders7 artwork style is the star of this game. It's a homage of sorts to the Bruce Timm artwork from the DCAU shows circa 1990-2000s, but with enhanced proportions. As there are a lot of Amazons in this story arc, expect a lot of six and eight packs...

There is one part where SR7 essentially phoned in the artwork, using the same couple of poses/bodies for a bunch of characters, essentially only changing the skin color and hair and maybe face features a bit, the public chain walks, but other than that the artwork is usually custom drawn for each character, with perhaps minor recycling of bodies here and there. But there's a lot of unique artwork here to check out.

SR7 has a definite preference when drawing females, some find it a bit repetitive, but I think he invokes the various characters fairly well. It might be nice to see a bit more variation in breast sizes, but yeah big breasts in porn is a thing that a number of people like...

There are several hours of content to click through here, with a fair amount of unique dialogue, along with a bit of repetitive progression for the gals. There's a bit of vaginal and anal sex, a lot more blowjobs and handjobs, the occasional titjob, a bit of dancing. More thresomes/orgies would have been nice, maybe we'll see a bit more of this in future updates...

So if you enjoy slowly seducing a number of hot Amazons, and don't mind a bit of grind, this standalone game isn't bad at all.

HenshinVolt has done a very good job translating SR7's animations from the Unity build to Ren'Py, and the game runs fairly smoothly. Add in the 'preference' options, and you can customize the playing experience to your own taste. For me, this plays a lot more smoothly than SU Unity, with a tiny bit less clicking and waiting here and there when playing the story.

I would have done the dialogue box a bit differently and the sprites are darkened a bit more than I like when characters are not talking when conversing, but other than that, no real complaints on my end. Well, except that an 'auto speed' slider might be nice...

The story itself is fairly linear, as you essentially follow similar paths that are somewhat interconnected. But if you enjoy SR7's art, it's not bad. There are a few 'alternating' animations here and there, which while not full animations by any stretch of the imagination, are done well enough. Again, kudos to HenshnVolt for putting in the work here.

All in all, if you are looking for a fuck fest, you may find this enjoyable. This build feels very stable, and I for one am happy to see the Themyscira arc done in Ren'py. It'll take a lot longer to translate the rest of the SU Unity storyline over to Ren'Py, but this is a nice second step!

Now, for those of you that have played the Themyscira arc through in SU Unity, there isn't a lot of new content, there's a post in this thread that details the new content, but it's a more enjoyable playing experience IMHO should you wish to play through the Themyscira arc again. Thankfully, there's always the Tab key for fast-forwarding...

All in all, I'd rate this 3.5 out of 5, or four stars from me, -1 star for the recycled sprites here and there, and also not a fan of the excessive dimming, and the grind is a bit repetitive but manageable/not overly bad. But for people that are new to SU, it's worth a look. SR7 is a talented artist, if you like the style in the OP promo pics, you'll probably enjoy seeing the rest of the artwork seen ingame.
