Absolute load of bullshit. "Ren'Py transition is hard!" when there are ren'py transitions out there that unpaid fans pull off in a day or two. "We're done with the art, but SR7 is tightening the writing!" Something Unlimited is a storyless hodge podge of badly written schlock where the replacement of S with Z covers every non-American accent, regularly wanders into ablist bigotry, and the majority of the dialogue is basically "You'll never win Luthor" "Ah, but I have... the device." "The device?" "Yes, the device, and if you don't flail your arms in some strange approximation of a dance I'll turn off your brain and send you to my strip club." "Oh my god, not your strip club." "Yes, my strip club." Ain't a damn thing about SU that should take over a year to port to Ren'Py.View attachment 5580802

We are coming in hot on the release date, and honestly, this has been a really solid cycle. Something Unlimited has been a blast to work on, and it has been a nice change of pace after the nonstop push of Project Evo. This update let the team slow down just enough to focus on quality without losing momentum.
Now, the not so fun news first. This update is going out as a standalone. Not ideal, but necessary. Which leads right into the full Ren’Py transition.
Moving to a full Ren'py version is big. Internally, the goal has always been simple, match the quality of SU Unity. Every single person on the team is aiming for that. But we also need to be realistic. There has to be a middle ground where we can move fast and still give you something worth playing. Nobody wants to wait forever while we chase perfection.
So the first mission in the new year is this, get the Ren’Py rebuild into your hands as fast as possible. That may mean some short term tradeoffs, possibly on image quality. Nothing is locked in yet, but we will make those calls very early in the new year. We know you want to play, not just hear about plans.
Back to SU.
Art is basically done. The heavy lifting now is on writing. SR7 is deep in it, and this cycle is a little different than usual. Instead of just pushing forward, there has been a lot of rewriting and tightening the story. Making sure the narrative actually hits the way it should.
That puts us firmly in polish mode right now. And polish mode is where we get some of the best narratives in SU. Cleaner story beats, stronger scenes, and content that lands harder. Less filler, more payoff. Diana would approve.
That’s it for now. See you Dec 31st

Wouldn't AI make that super simple now? or is everyone still all "pitch forks and torches" about that idea. These games would be so awesome if only Dev invested in making nice animations instead of a lot static images...
