If I remember correctly, don't pay for his trip to Japan since that would take him off the route. He has to stay on the route. He shares the route with Anna. Well, I was enjoying this game right up until a quest broke. Ken and Samantha no longer appear anywhere except at their house. I'm not sure what I did to break it, but considering it takes literally hours to reach that point in the game, I'm not exactly keen on starting a new save.
