FYI, with regards to using the term skip(able) with some controversial content, as this can be received very differently if some content is just a skippable choice for the player.Rough, mate. Rough.
Both are mostly my personal preference.
I feel like being able to self insert yourself into the game has some merit. I tried telling the story from third person but it feels kinda detached. That's why it is told from second person. But, at the same time, I AM trying to tell a story.
Adding choices, personally, is not my thing at all. Not only does it inflate the scope, having to redo further content multiple times with choices in mind (or having choices that don't matter, like them adding relationship points (bleh) and stuff), makes some players (including me) frustrated with having to mess with saves due to skipable content, or when the result does not match the desired outcome. Yeah, there can be a disconnect between the action of character and the player, if no choice is given, sure. But i really wasn't planning on making some branching narrative. Just making up a story to busy my head with something while the world is burning.
Skippable = The controversial content still happens, but off camera (A community hated method if controversial kink content is happening to the players love interests. )
Avoidable = It never happens (A community favoured method to present most controversial content as a user choice, so a player can prevent it from ever happening to their love interest.)
Even though skip and avoid are very similar in meaning, they do provide very different results with in a adult video novel. So please don't take this advice as a huge negative, this is just some important information to aid with gaining the maximum user interest for a decent harem story.
