I have heard that some game that have porn on it get deny while other don't. the theory is that someone at steam do not like those game and deny them no matter what so it depend on who the person that look at your game at the time. again I could be wrong about that.
Some countries (ie. Germany) have restrictions that prevents porn games from being allowed on steam. Downloading a patch is a workaround to play those games in those countries.

Steam is a huge company, they have clearly laid out rules on what kind of porn games are allowed. And the biggest reason to be denied is characters age. Having a high school setting, even when pretending its college is not allowed.

Other than that - incest, rape, all that is allowed on steam.

I find choice in games to be endearing in itself, even if the choice is never taken. When the player knows that he can change the course of events by selecting the "stupid" choice, it makes the "right" choice more impactful. I don't like "fake choice." Do be careful how you're spending your development time though.

My game has like "half fake choices" a lot of choices lead to the same place but they all effect invisible stats that are competing against each other to decide the ending. charm, darkness, submission, resistance, i would like to make the choices more interesting like the player actually has to think about which choices might effect each stats. i have been interested in "hard VN" or VN with a fail state ever since i first played teaching feeling and not letting her do housework actually kills her, that being said my monkey gorilla brain has a hard time thinking up interesting and complex choices where the player can't just say "yup that's the submissive option" :/

This is more or less what I love to see and is what many well-designed RPGs do as well.

Personally I prefer when these stats are communicated to the player and visible (after making the choice, not before!). For example, the karma system in the Fallout games. As another example, the interactive fiction game has several floating stats. It can be played in your browser if you'd like to look.

I agree that the player should have to contemplate the choices carefully based on what they've learned about characters and the game world. If NPC X makes a comment about NPC Y being shy or introverted, then thirty minutes later the player is made to plan some kind of romantic date with NPC Y, the player might know that NPC Y would not want to go on a date in a crowded or busy area. Or you could turn this on its head as it turns out NPC X was deceiving the player and the opposite is true.

Forcing the player to take notice of NPC's emotions, tastes, and habits can really make characters feel more human which is especially important in NSFW games.

Why do we as game Devs give the player choices (...) why was i doing this?
Because you want to avoid this:
your "escape ending" is pressing alt f4
As a gaym dev, you should want your players to stay in your game as much as possible, if they alt+f4, they're pretty much lost.
Some players might like only some specific characters, or only some specific fetishes/scenes/poses.
Giving the chance to say "Skip this because I don't care" is really useful, unless your game has only 1 heroine and a single fetish of which you are sure the player will enjoy all the scenes.

My game is going to be very single heroine focused, but i may have alternative routes for her sisters, mother, etc.

This is why I think a lot of harem games fall into the trap of becoming a kinetic novel with extra steps. If I cannot continue [A]'s story until [B.] through [D] characters stories have caught up, did I ever really have a choice?

I get why it's a problem, it's difficult to write a story with inter-weaving plots with coherent overlap if the player has too many choices. But if you isolate those choices from each other (by ensuring all story paths never fully intertwine but remain parallel) you can avoid that problem.

An example would be an incest game where the "house mates" are all viable love interests but the taboo of it needing to be secret from the others is never broken. You can write scenes of being nearly caught but then later that day everyone is eating dinner at the same table blissfully unaware of the individual plots being woven. Meanwhile the player has the option to pursue any one or all of them without any story contradiction concerns. Hell, make a wholesome path where the player seduces NONE of them and it still works.

if you are playing a porn game
If I'm playing a game, then I want choice. And, no, pressing alt F4 is not a choice any more than resizing the window or rising the volume is.

This is one of the reasons I prefer japanese games: they tend to use wrong choices/bad ends as an opportunity to explore story or character elements rathe than just smacking the player for straying off the railroad.

There are "fag routes" too, like if you aren't feeling the main character girl and hold out for a girl or a scenario that's 'better', the game will decide that you don't like pussy and prefer bussy, Bad end! Sorry kid! Game over!

Like you're playing a game and the main character girl wants you to take out the trash, wash the dishes, clean the car, before being rewarded by getting pegged viciously by her while some random gentleman watches from the cuck seat, you don't play with that shit and say "no!"

"What are you? A fag?" Damn bitch, chill for just one minute. :(

I definitely don't have a similar scenario in my game...
