Only one erotic image so far. Should be noted, this is essentially just the intro. I wanted to generate some interest and let people know that a big update is coming on October 25th. And people keep doubting me, but the game will be finished by the end of November!

If you start making a decent amount of money, you will probably be sued if you use other peoples art, just saying. Doesn't even matter if it's "totally not for my game and totally just for people who wanna be good samaritans". You will probably lose a court case, though I don't know how that works if you live in different countries from the person.

I don't have a stake either way, but I am a logic warrior and I find the comparison disturbing, so here we go.
Even if you claim the independent 'tip jar' defense and remove the perks, you started a fresh patreon which is attached to your new 0.001 pre-alpha rpg maker game (which uses stolen content that you didn't even acknowledge until someone recognized it and called you out on it). It's going to be pretty hard to claim you arn't getting any financial compensation for the game if the patreon takes off.
Of course, this website regularly offers free downloads of games that would otherwise cost money, so I am unsure if anyone can really cast the first stone on this.
Sim Brothel et al did not have a patreon. Nor did they sell influence on the game's direction in exchange for 'donations'. In fact, it'd be interesting if @cmacleod42 weighed in on this equivalence, since he is one of those developers.

While I can understand the reaction of some people to the fact that the game contains 'borrowed' assets I do find it amusing that such reactions are occurring on a website that is dedicated to (and potentially promotes) the 'borrowing' of other people's games / comics / animations / 3D modelling resources / etc..

i'm lost isn't this a pirate site why are people so upset when people pirate other games/art/videos, the hypocrisy is alive and well in this thread it seems.

There is a difference between stealing a work and stealing a work, rebranding it as your own content, and trying to resell it for profit.

I have always made it clear on the games I have worked on that use artwork I do not have the right so, so downloaded, 'found', that I would accept no payment, tips or similar for them. You cannot make money off others work, both morally and legally.
I also made it clear I would remove any images on request, and very seldom has that happened.
Holy shit, I feel star-struck! Just wanted to say I'm not even a huge fan of the brothel sims, but I loved your work! That was one of the first naughty games I ever played, and I have fond memories of it!

Also yeah, there's the legal/moral issue of making money off of other's work everyone keeps bringing up. Initially it seems odd, but it's not hypocritical if you think about it. Here there's the grey area of 'sharing,' with no profit involved.
It is not odd, it is called respecting others work.
Call it hypocrisy all you like but using someone else work and claim it as your own or placing it under your own brand while for a clear reason its not your own work - more over if the original owner of the work haven't given his/her permission to use his/her work is completely an asshole move.
The closest example is like link theft - grab porn link from somewhere else, put it on your blog or web or patreon or whatever and claim that you are the 1 uploading the whole files.
Even pirates need to have some manners and know how to respect others.
And like I said before, it's still considered fine since its still demo - its practically just to give people the idea, but for good or better do not use stolen assets on final product.
Half the games here use stolen assets, wether it be backgrounds or music or sometimes even the main CGs...
If you are personally making money off the game in any form you are making a profit. That is the definition of the term.
Non-commercial means the product isn't intended to make a profit, but given you have set up a patreon - with perks awarded for money - then non-commercial doesn't apply here either.
Donations are gifts given (generally to charity) without expectation of reward, so that doesn't really apply here because you are giving rewards.
And like everyone else has said, there is a difference between piracy and the resale of other people's work for money.
Okay, maybe you're just smarter than me then, but my knee-jerk reaction was similar, "he's using stolen assets... but this site steals games... huh, that's funny." It makes sense to me now, especially when people brought up making money off of it. If you don't think about it too much it's totally weird on the surface though.

But it's getting kind of ridiculous when people are pretending they're this great patron of porn games and hentai images. The robin hoods of hentai. But you do make an interesting point. So basically people are fine with stealing other people's work as long as no one profits monetarily. But if I make a completely new, free game with the exception of 10 pirated images, then it's a great moral concern... but only because of the fact that I asked for donations. I wonder if you people were equally disconcerted when piratebay & co. started accepting donations or running ads on their sites. More needless bullshit to fuss over to those that do.

Okay, after reading all these similar posts, I suppose I should address this... concern(?). Maybe the perks for money can be misconstrued as selling something. I think that's a fair point, so I've removed them. But to be frank, I don't understand the moral outrage. These hcgs float in the web by the masses. 99% of these eroges never get translated or marketed to the west. And don't pretend people here are paying money to look at hentai images or even play hentai games. It's a huge waste of assets, and I see it as a good chance to make something of it.
