The art looks higher quality, or at least more detailed... but it's missing something.
She's not blushing and sweating as much. In the shot from behind her ass is bigger but you lose the view of her panties.
Some parts of it are more overtly sexual, but somehow come out less erotic.
its the art style
its like with pixel art you can see the black outlines, in the original art you can see the thick outlines on her arms which makes it give a distinct look, while the new art does have outlines it is thinner and lighter, which imo kinda meshes into the lighter skin color with the new art making it look like a blob

ultimately the decision itself to redo the art 3 years down the development is a silly one, when you could just have had redrawn portion of the illustration (like the nipples for examples).

The changes would be justified and everyone would have welcomed it if the new art was substantially better, it's not the case, so I really don't think it was a smart thing to do.

I'll write my 2 cents here in case the Dev reads this and I'll try to keep things to simple critique as possible without sounding too negative, but lets be clear first... the game itself as is, is still S tier, so with that being said...

#1: As everyone said, the new art is... weird, to say the least, she looks like 2 different characters and its massively noticeable and doesn't look very good. If the original artist doesn't want to do more, or something else is going on, then so be it, but the "new" art definitely needs a touch-up or re-do. The original art at times, also looked like "baby's first 2d art project" but at least it solidified the looks of Catherine and made us all love her, so keeping the art as close to that as possible, would be the best move.

#2: You got rid of the brewing system(almost, you can still interact with it, if you go to the 'recollection' menu, the brewing system icon is still there and still clickable and still allows you to brew drinks) and that is a great start, but the "click z at the right time" bartending 'mini-game' really needs to go as well. It would look better and be more fun to interact with, if you simply added the drink art, BEHIND Catherine along the counter and allowed people to mouse-click on them **one time** or arrow key + z click on them **one time** and just simply choose a drink, or just add the art of the drinks behind her and remove all the annoying menu clicking alltogether and just have a "make drink" button and be done with it. I get it, making the mini games is fun, but its exhausting to the player. The mini-games need to be remade to be unimaginably simple, or just thrown out. All of the art for the scenes in which she interacts with the chuds and has orgasms or whatever, can easily stay and shouldn't need unnecessary repeated clicks just to see the fun stuff. /rant

#3: Sound: Music is great, voice acting from Catherine in some spots is awful. Like the noise of her sucking on a bottle is.... just awful to listen too, as it sounds like someone forcing themselves to super-suck something and not trying to be "sexy" about it all, as if the entire recording was 'forced'.

#4: I know 1-3 is a lot, but also new content is sorely needed, last few updates have had nothing really happening at all. With that in mind, the "obstacles" of dirt and random objects all over the floor in different scenes, makes them so annoying to traverse, like rock piles, fire hydrants, lamp posts. These are all things that cause the player to have to click EVEN MORE just to get around them and they're absolutely irritating. You could easily leave them there for aesthetics/background but make them passable just by simple walking over them. That would be a welcomed update by everyone and its a tiny change which would make a huge impact, you'd be surprised how many extra clicks it is, especially in the sewers.

Anyways, still love the game, and still looking forward too some juicy updates.

tl;dr: Castbelt loves your game, but would love it even better if you removed all the gameplay, redid the the art and voice, and added more content.

LimeJuiceGames if all this negativity is discouraging, please know that all this does come from a place of love. With great interest comes great expectations, or something like that. You've created something that draws passion out of people. If they truly thought the game was bad, they wouldn't even bother to leave feedback.

True, it is very much harrowing to create something that you believe is an improvement just to be met with such negative sentiment in response AND extremely discouraging to interact with the community when caught in such situation. And while that doesn't change my dislike for the art change, I do hope the author is not discouraged and sticks with whatever aligns with their vision. Game is still incredible overall and they've still done an amazing job so far, and hopefully on good track to finish their game.

Yeah. I don't vibe with the new art, but I sure ain't gonna drop a game like this because of it. This is easily one of the best games on the site and would remain so probably even if you redid the art to make all the girls look like half-drowned Chihuahuas.

Again, I think it's just a color balancing issue, but I ain't a professional artist.

Yeah I think I'd agree with most people in the thread right now that the art change is... strange to say the least. Its definitely better than 1 or 2 of the old images but every other one is a step in the wrong direction. If this is just for the bartending, then wouldn't there be LESS consistency, not more? go from the training scenes to this, and the art style just completely changes. Sure the old art was inconsistent at times and sometimes bad (specifically her boobs looking bad occasionally) but at least it was all the same art style

I mean, the style isn't too different. If you thickened up the outlines a bit and let things run into each other (which, tbf, was the biggest issue with the old style. It made things look very busy and jumbled), and then touched up the colors so she doesn't look like a vampiress trying out pastel black hair dye, it'd probably work.

I don't want the game to get bogged down in art though. Heck, I think the old style was fine enough for a finished project. Even if it's tempting to apply upgrades as you discover/invent them, at a certain point I don't think it's conducive to actually getting a finished product out there. Especially something subjective like art, which will never look good to the artist.

I agree that the old art has more character, and is sexier.

Imagine a beloved pixel art game, which is then "polished" up to be photorealistic. like the April-fools-day "upgrade" of HD visuals for Dave the Diver. (ex ) It just looks wrong. In this case "improvement" shaved away all the emotion and characterization.

No hate to the artist. But the original art style is way better! The "sketch-like" quality of the original art is a Feature, not a Bug...! We love it...! Put it back...! :3

Anyone ever play World of Warcraft in the early days? And a dev or community manager or whoever the fuck he was got ass blasted over the shaman forum giving him a hard time so he said he would avoid shaman updates as a punishment and then they made a Photoshop of him being hit by a bus and he got even more mad? I always wondered what could drive a man to take internet criticism so seriously?
Anyway... I told myself if I ever became a dev I wouldn't be so easily tilted because input is good. Even bad input is good. You just have to decide how to filter it through your own vision and experiences and take away from it what you can. So I don't intend on chasing the community's vision of perfection or I would be pulled in 8 directions at once and never get anything done.
That said... the game's artist did see all this and took some of the more constructive criticism to heart and sent me this before/after today.

Imo this is a step in the right direction in terms of shading. The tongue might still be a little bit too red tho.
I also hope the artist will touch up the MC's face on some of these panels. I find her old head proportions look better overall.

The new update also replaced some old poses that looked sexier than the new ones and it would be cool to have them back updated.

Gotta say, the new art makes the cat ears look like they're actually placed on the head instead of behind it, which is nice. I'm not sure whether I like them smaller. Leaning towards "no", but maybe I'll get used to them? Also, the new art does a better job at keeping the breasts consistently sized and 3d-believable.

Like others have said, the old art is sexier at this point, and that's what matters most, but I see what the new art's going for and appreciate it.

I've always heard that the trick with criticism is to take whatever could be useful from it, and then just move on without letting it bruise your ego.
You seem to be the sort who handles that well.

Well, that being said, those two pieces of art are so similar that i'm not really sure what the point was? Like, the right (new?) one has starker colours whereas the left one looks softer but like... was there a pressing reason to replace it?

To be clear, this isn't a complaint, i'm just a little confused. There's nothing actually wrong with the 'before' image, so... i'm not sure why you'd have that redone instead of just focusing on new art.

The even better trick is just not reading it, and asking someone tangent to the project (who know of it, but is not directly working on it) tell you about what people are thinking and make regular reports. That person can filter the really nasty comments and keep the useful ones/tell you the overall reception.
