Yes I am a little confused with how to make the config work with the auto translator that I downloaded from gitbhub.

It's automatic. You don't need to do anything. Simply unpack it, and when you launch the game, a CMD console should appear. Just wait, the game will launch and from now on, the text will be automatically translated as in the fly. If it doesn't work, you can rename the game folder. BepInEX sometimes doesn't like Japanese characters.

Yeah nothing pops up when starting the game for me. I feel like a lot of these configs from github don't always account for different laptop models and hardware. I have an HP Victus and sometimes my settings seem to have issues with certain programs from github. Let me know if works for you or if you end up doing something different. I'll return to this thread after dinner hehe. : ))

weird, i tried it again and no cmd console still - renaming the game folders looks like it didn't help either

Are you sure all the files are in the game's main folder?
It should look like this:

As for Japanese characters (and other special characters), the game path should generally not have them.
For example:
