Not really surprising when you start with a project you don't really think will go that far, build on that original foundation and then, once your scope has expanded, realize that your original foundation wasn't that suited. Imagine starting with a simple garden shed as your mancave and expanding it into a four-story house with garage and swimming pool.
You can make it work for a while, but almost everything either becomes a temporary solution or is held together with duct tape, spit and a prayer. Eventually you bite the bullet and just redo everything, but with a clear goal in mind and more experience.
