What's $1 per month to many people? That doesn't even buy a fountain drink nowadays. And $5? That's less than a value meal at a fast food restaurant each month. That should tell us that for those who forget, the money they subscribe is petty cash not worth their time to worry about.

It's also possible that people subbed at the $1 tier find sufficient value in a couple wallpapers and a status update sent directly to their inbox every month. Heck, I subbed to DPC for the better part of a year for $1 just for the convenience of not having to sift through ten pages of slop every Friday to find the weekly progress report. I might have considered doing the same for DC if I didn't get some mild enjoyment out of the tire fire that is this thread.

Like you said, $1/month is basically a rounding error for most people in English-speaking countries. If anything, I think the update emails would be more conspicuous for patrons than the Patreon receipt; unless they completely ignore their email or have updates turned off, they're getting bimonthly reminders that SS is nowhere close to done.

Regardless of what you think of DC, having a $1 tier was an absolutely big brain move and I'm not sure why more devs don't follow the same model. Its such a piddly amount, people will just throw it at you without a second thought. You're really just leaving money on the table not having one. Like think of how much WaL could be making if their cheapest tier wasn't $3.

also you guys should definitely get ready for another couple years of waiting once it comes to implementing the "dating system". if you truly believe this team is competent enough to program a functioning dating system on top of their current game in a reasonable amount of time i don't know what to tell ya

honestly if you like this game the best thing you can do for it is to tell everyone to stop donating because that's the only way DC might feel some sort of heat but a lot of coombrains invested in this game are far too gone i know that myself

It is honestly a better release model, since we already know it would've took the update a year or more to be finished either way. There would be at least something to show for it, even if people are gonna complain about it, it's actually nice to see the content again rather than just progress reports be it polished or otherwise.

I'm more interested in the "new things" part of it though, did he just mean the already promised stuff or is it actual new scenes/additions depending on the chunk of the update he's releasing? Idk

Seems pretty sus to me. If they are gonna release the game in chunks over the next few years, they they probably should be able to release part of it already? But the game has been at 82% forever. I thought the new progress bar was supposed to really reflect what was going on unlike the old one. If this is the case, 0 progress has been made in months. We're gonna get the same content with some tweaks and have to probably wait 2-3 years for new content. What is the point? I feel for the people who defend this scam. I hope you don't get scammed in real life too often!

Ah yes, release the tech update in parts now, so take everything you've already spent 3 years on, segment all of what's already finished out so you can now drip feed what was supposed to be out years ago (say do one chunk every year?), and keep the gravy train going for another decade at least.

It actually doesn't bother me at all, only thing that does is that there are devs who bust their asses every day to make sure they put out decent updates every few months who don't have a tenth of DPC's revenue and are far more deserving.

So this game is closing on on 8 years of dev time with no end in sight. The last update was over a year ago. WTF is going on with this Dev/Devs. Starting to look a lot like one of those Devs that want to keep the cash on patreon or other sites going for as long as they can.

I don't understand the anxiety surrounding the 'abandoned' tag by DC's apologists: specifically, there's no downside to the game getting the abandoned tag as far as the player-base is concerned. There are basically three possible responses that DC can make to the threat of his game being labeled abandoned, and they're all fine.

Option 1: DC ignores it and keeps jacking off all day every day while collecting a huge paycheck from mor---sorry, I mean, he keeps diligently developing the best update that could possibly exist with super duper exciting characters to be released at some point before or during the heat death of the universe. I.e., no difference.

Option 2: DC updates the fucking game, finally, after a Goddamned year and a half. Maybe it's just one of those incremental 2-month updates he threatened that, like, redoes the intro or something (seriously, what even WAS the plan for the tech update? Was there a timeline for the next update at all? Or was it just 'jack off in Aruba forever, buy a bunch of stonks, and hope I end up rich enough that I never have to do actual game development again'?), but at least there's something.

Option 3: DC throws in the towel, officially labels the game 'complete,' and we all move on with our lives. Which, yeah, it's one of the biggest and highest-quality porn games out there. Stick in a 'the end' frame, make a wedding scene with twenty or so possible lady-sprites in white dresses, and call it a day. I'd accept that. I think a lot of people would.

But for my money, I'd bet on option 2. There's likely to be an update within the next couple days, even a tiny one, just to forestall the possible fallout of this game actually getting labeled on f95 as abandoned. And then I'll probably play the game again because it's a good game, and that'll be completely fine.

If you look closer, you'll see that people who are the supposed "DC apologists" are anything but. In fact, they'll tell you that they're looking forward to the abandoned tag just as much as the "DC negative Nancys" because they know that the tag doesn't mean squat. It also means that when the tag is posted, that those people will have to look for something else to whine about.

And we all know that they'll happily find something else, because they're only here for the negativity.

So bring on the abandoned tag so people can laugh at the ones who wanted it, knowing it did nothing.
