Ren'Py - Summertime Saga [v21.0.0 wip.5091] [Kompas Productions]

Interesting history, it is not everything about sex scenes, also character history lines all well structured, you can follow the evolution and understand the relationship of your decisions and their consecuences. It is a comic like animation but very well made, I personally enjoyed it. I recommend it.

Definitely in the Top 5 of this generation .The characters are really well done in both appearances and personalities and there is a lot of content and mini games to keep you occupied and wanting more . Keep up the good work

Scripting makes all the difference! There are a lot of competently coded games with arguably higher quality artwork, but this one excels in the most commonly overlooked area: STORY. Characters are well developed and consistent, the dialog is funny, and as an added bonus you never feel trapped by terrible choices among terrible people. This is a fun game that doesn't insult your intelligence, easily one of my all-time favorites.

Easily one of the best games on this site. I can't recommend it enough.

1. The main character is likable. He's kind of naive but he doesn't come off as a smooth brain.
2. The side characters have genuine depth to them. You actually begin to care about the characters as you play their stories.
3. This game has an absolute shit-ton of content. That includes a nearly complete main storyline.
4. Updates for this game or relatively frequent. The developer deeply engages with his audience on Patreon. (that's why this game is extremely well-funded)
5. The artwork is beautiful and continues to improve for a 2-D game.

Simply amazing. I know 2D games is so hard to make it fast. I truly wanna fastest update from DC but, i know 2D arts doesn't need any kind of rush. So, be patient for the update. It maybe kinda long, but trust me. IT'S FREAKIN' WORTH IT!

i sincerely believe that this is one of the games that are competing for the best 2D adult video game to appear on this website. Just all the scenarios and options you have at your disposal is amazing. The game also provies a check sheet so you always know what you can do to advance indiviual character and main stories. The animations are great espescially those from more recent releases. As long as you don't need your games to be planted in reality then I believe you'll enjoy this one.

The story of this game is amazing, it isn't build slowly or fast but perfectly, both the main story and every single character worked on. I consider it to be an original story even though it isn't finished since it has so much content already and was one of the first games I fell in love with. The renders are top quality and unique. One of the key aspects for a game's quality, IMO, are the animations, which this game isn't S+ tier but still S tier, at least. As I said before, the game isn't finished but still has so much content you will probably need more than one day to finish it! My first language isn't english so when it comes to grammar I'm probably not the best to speak, but I'll still rate it as perfect since I don't think I ever stumbled upon a single grammar mistake. I'm not a fan of sandbox games but this game does it so well that I honestly don't mind it. The last thing I'll rate are the bugs and I would probably rate it as a 4/4.5 because I may have gotten a bug or two when I played the first version of an update here and there, I'll not rate it lower since bugs should be expected in those versions of an update!
I would rate SS as it is a 4.5, if I could. Since I cant do halves, I'll round it up to a 5 stars, hoping I don't regret it when it gets complete.

This is what got me interested in these types of games. The story is good. The character development is good. Most importantly, the art is good. PLUS the scenes are animated which most games fail to do. It may be multiple years in the making but it is solid which is a credit to the development. Just my opinion but I don't think I'm alone.

Good Points
+ Some characters are really lovely with good stories behind it, like that pizza store content.
+ Even tho there are problems and not enough main content it's still mostly well-written.

+ Sex scenes have animations and they are decent.
+Have some good references like Walter White reference can make you laugh.

Bad Points
-MC is realy weird dude. Even his hair cut tells this us cleary. Come on man? You are earning thousand bucks go and get youself haircut dont look like bowl. Joke's aside in one questline we got cool hair but it doesnt effect main game this is pretty disappointed and its lead us to other bad point.
-Yes we have lots of content but that contents dont effect our main game at all. For example MC changes his hair for Talent Show and its looks realy good but after that little scene we never saw him with that hair again. Its like that scene never happened. DEV need make this contents connected with main story/game to. This is normaly how things work and need to work. If it doesnt effect main game at all why I'm playing that quests? Why I'm wasting my time?
-And that ''Lots of content'' sometimes feels pretty bad for story. I mean its like main story is not important at all. We have lots of different route for girls/women but in all that content main story looks pretty less and petty. DEV should add more main story content and less character routes and with this way main story could be more balanced with game.
- Most of characters are really annoying, rude and bitchy, even tho they got development and become better later on it still doesn't change how annoying their content/character were until they become better and you had to bear their bullshit. Writers not thinking players might not like them as a love interests after how they acted is wild, like seriously why the hell Roxxy says things like ''Didn't your deadbeat loser of father kill himself or something?'' to the MC? It make no sense some characters acting too over the top like this despite being a love interests to the MC.
- Right mouse button doesn't lead to save page like all other Renpy games, and that wastes your time if you are saving a lot and like that aint enough our right mouse button in save screen is used for overwriting the saves along with original feature, which feature lets you exit and go back to game, so when you right click it shows ''overwrite'' screen and it makes you waste more time.
- Position of quick-menu is really bad, it should have been at the bottom of the screen like all other games have, it makes no sense it to be middle right corner.
- Bed icon should be on the HUD, not on the map HUD.
- This game started getting developed in 2016, and as you know we are in 2024, so normally it should have finished years ago already, but no it's not finished, because DEV was adding very little content with every update, dragging the game for no valid reason for years and not adding enough content, then at some point he decided to remake the game, even tho main story didn't had enough content or paths of girls/women, and didn't done good job with it like he never did and it did take years him to release ''pre-tech'' update, then he released two ''wip'' updates with new tech, basically a remake of the game with 16:9 resolution and better art and art quality, but with far lesser content and without a lot of old feature the game has like money earning mechanics, etc. Currently the game don't have even have half of the old content the game had, and updates are too slow that even reaching the old content level of the game can take years with this speed, so I wouldn't say it was worth all those years of wait, or worth waiting for new updates either. It was something can and should be done in months of work, not years, and the game should have at least have the old content added in the new version already at this point, regardless to say this game had very messy development and even today things are not going well. It's 8 years old game with nowhere close to finish the main story nor paths of girls/women, and that's huge con.

For The End
There was a time I gave this game 4 stars and praised for the main story and how well-written characters are, but after 8 years and very messy development cycle, and DEV still not fixing his messy development style, sadly this game is not worth playing, and at this point it will never finish, since updates takes too much time and adds very little content, gotta milk I guess, right?

Beyond excellent. One of the best lewd stories I've ever experienced. The writing is superb, much higher quality than you typically find in adult games, and very well structured. Minigames are fun and not a chore, art style is incredible, story is excellent.

Unexpectedly hilarious game. It has great humor and references spread throughout the different stories. The relations are fun to explore. Some are very cute, some romantic and some downright hardcore. The animations are perfect. Simple and thoroughly satisfying. The game is filled with sex, love it.

One suggestion, if i may: pls add a feature to change the outfits of the babes.

I started this VN ages ago. I noticed a lot of under development areas along the way. I came back around to it about a week ago. I've completed every thing in game. I've impregnated every character you can(multiple times)

Hopefully there will be more things to do in future updates. The adult scenes are abundant as well. I recommend trying this VN if you haven't already done so. The graphics are simple and unique, the cartoon style give the comedy touch the game need.
The MC is the cool kid, he wants to fuck everyone, but don´t say that, things just "happen", there is a development around the histories, you have to earn the prizes, some are easy others not so much.
Probably the best adult game around with history.

I came to this game for the faps and stayed for the feels. I didn't finish the current version cause I wanted to wait for a few more updates. I played through 3/4 of the game tho.

Although this game's narrative (and overall quality) is excellent, I can't give it more than 3 stars right now. I think this game should give more options to romantic approaches. For example, the Roxxy's route is "quite" emotional since we help her and discover a lot of heavy family issues she's been suffering, but in the end, the ONLY thing she cares about is MC's dick. We can see a romantic (or deeper) mutual interest was being developed through her route. In other words, what could have been a character's development from "casual cold thot" to "person with feelings and issues" was reduced to "dick-craving semi-thot".

Another example could be Eve's route. In my opinion, this is better executed. However, I felt quite disappointed when I saw all the realistic and incredibly well-made dialogues lead to a few porn scenes looping, making Eve, Grace and Odette completely plain NPCs.

I can't point out more things refering to the rest of the game since these 2 routes were my favs since the start and got disappointed finishing both.

It's understandable that a game with a rooster this big needs some variety in the possible branches. The lack of content in "finished" routes killed the mood and the game for me. (I know some characters are getting more content in the future tho)

Summertime Saga was one of the first "adult" games that I ever played. It used to be a really good balanced adult game. Too many remakes of the art, backgrounds, storylines, and more just make it a padded game with no real direction anymore. The mini games are completely useless and add nothing of real value to the overall gameplay. I honestly don't know how this game keeps getting 4 and 5 star ratings.

With the amount of money they are raking in from all the "suckers", I mean patrons, you would think the game would be more developed. It's been over 5 years now and isn't even close to being done. Sure, everything is hand drawn which is cool. But taking anywhere from two months or more per update? The game is being padded with no benefits to the players. I know I will get flack from the people that are paying to play the game, but don't really care anymore.

Maybe in another 2 to 3 years some of the early storylines might actually get good updates for once. I won't hold my breathe though waiting for it...

This is a game chock full of funny in-jokes, references to topical issues of the day, memes, famous figures. It's satirical porn. And it's great.

The writing is humorous, the erotic content is plentiful and varied, there's a variety of mini-games (which, whilst extremely basic, do offer a break from the core gameplay loop) and many characters have a lot of content that gives them all their own distinctive flavour. Depending on your reading speed and thoroughness, you can spend 10-15 hours or more, easily, on this game.


BUT.

There's a distinctive whiff of "unfinished" about everything. To illustrate this, I'll use the "sister", Jenny, as an example.

You progress through her story to the point MC wants to pursue an actual relationship with her. She refuses. The MC wonders then how he can get closer to Jenny. But that's it. If you check your achievements, Jenny's storyline is marked as "complete". And this problem repeats with a lot of characters. It feels dissatisfying.

Maybe this will eventually be addressed in a final build but for now, expect a lot of endings that only feel half-done.

Don't let it put you off though. It's still a great adventure.

The game is simply incredible, great characters, funny and engaging stories with alternative endings, excellent protagonist, visuals of the scenarios very well done and so on, here are my cynical considerations about this game, the best I've ever played.

TL;DR: 4.75/5. A great game overall but has it's problems. Plenty of already established content with good writing. But, with long production time being the biggest issue, as this game ranges at about 2-4 updates per year. It's one of the biggest games on this site for a reason, give it look if you already haven't or if it's been a while since last playing.

----- Breakdown -----


Content: 5 - Excellent. There are 36+ characters that the main character can have 'intimate relations' with. Some more than others, which is due to how the production team has focused their efforts. Often one update will be focused on a side character with the next focusing on the main story, adding content to characters that are relevant to the plot. You'll find more content in the former updates but will be focused on said character. That is why a character like Roxy for example has much more than Maria. Most if not all of these scenes are animated, some allow for multiple angles, different positions, and even an x-ray cam if you decide to go for the pregnancy route. Which yes, there is a pregnancy mechanic in this game where if you decide to do it, there will be a "spin the wheel to win" type mini-game that has the chance of impregnating another character. Not all characters have this but many do and with each update more are added.

Gameplay: 4.5 - Great. This is a sandbox Ren'py set in a town with 29 individual locations, each with their own unique interiors that can be explored to find quests, extra content, and secrets. After the prologue, you're kind of just let go to pursue what you want. There are also mini-games you can play to make money as well as develop skills such as strength, agility, charisma, and intelligence. You'll find for the job mini-games have one manner to gain money at first but you'll find more options to pursue further into the game. The skill mini-games are pretty straight forward, whether it be pattern recognition, rapid button presses, or going through a maze. There isn't a ton of gameplay features but it's varied and keeps player engagement.

Graphics: 5 - Excellent (in my opinion). This game is different than most others in that it is all custom-created, hand drawn artwork. There is no 3D models, reused Daz3D assets, etc. Everything is hand drawn. Of course everyone has their own tastes but that being said, Kompas does not hold back in detail, whether it be the map of the town, to all the locations you can visit and their various interiors, to the characters and their designs. Each one is unique in their own manner.

Sound: 3 - Average. There's custom music in this game. It's nothing to write home about but there are different tracks that help convey the mood of the plot. No voice acting in this game either. For those looking for that, I wouldn't hold your breath either.

Story: 4.5 - Great. It's not the best but there are many, many side quests and content that you'll be engaged with multiple stories all at once. The main quest has content but it's nowhere near complete. The team at Kompas Productions has started to more focus on the story recently after a few rounds of character-focused content updates. The story isn't any special but the writing is clever and humorous at times. There are branching story lines that have minimal dialogue options outside of gaining contextual information or advancing plot. Once you pick a conversation topic though, there isn't much choice like found in other VNs though.

My all time favorite game so far. The art is nice, the story is nice, the mechanics are nice. Everything is smooth and is regularly updated. Only wish it was updated even more often so you wouldn't get finished so fast.

Would be nice though, if you could undo/redo quests that make you stuck in one scenario (picking between two girls). Perhaps breaking up with the girl or something and then flirting with the other.

The game is really good, not the best on here but it is top tier in terms of quality. It is also quite long for those who like decent storylines and build up to things. It has a nice but basic soundtrack, good character artwork, and mostly good storylines.
Some negatives are the fact that updates are incredibly slow, and updates don't really have a lot of content within them. As well as that, there needs to be a lot more H scenes with the girls. There are bad angles and very low frames in some of them, which makes the general experience much worse
Overall this is a top game on this website, but there are games that are better than it. As well as that, considering how big the development team is on this game, the update time is terrible. I have no doubt that it will drag out over the next few years, when in reality it's around 6 months of work with the size of the team that's there.
