Ren'Py - Summertime Saga [v21.0.0 wip.5258] [Kompas Productions]

My most favorite game of all. it is filled with pure content and amazing story. animations are well made, so man characters to interact, good quality incest and clean H scenes, so many cool mini games, Pregnancy system and secrets.

I have to say, having followed this project for over a year now, I'm very disappointed with the progress I've seen and the slow pace of updates. The actual story of the game has been set to the sidelines and ignored by the developer completely. Every other "large" update seems to be mostly focused on reworking an already established part of the game with maybe a couple new scenes thrown in to appease the masses. Then when there is some exciting content focused updates, they get half-assed in some way. For example, the pregnancy update. Sure now you can get characters pregnant, but doing so stops your progress with those characters and you can't even fool around with them while they are pregnant. Some characters you can, but its just scenes that were mistakenly not disabled by the pregnancy flag, since in those scenes they aren't pregnant. Also, with the way the game is coded it is very easy to cause bugs and to jumble up the story line and having events happen out of turn. With the time between updates, this game should have way more content per update, especially considering its a 2d game with "animations" of maybe 4-8 frames. I've seen 3d games with smooth animations release more content per week than this game gets per large update. Here's hoping the developer can salvage this game, but for me, the writing is on the wall, and it says "big brother".

This game the perfect teenage dream. It was realy felt good to play. All character nice or charismatic. Game is sometimes funny. Artwork is beautiful and gameplay is smooth. Writing is also great and the world of the game is very addictive. Top quality fun.

PROS:

• Saves not carrying forward between most versions
• Simplistic and boring mini games
• Too much exposition vs. sexual content
• A very long development cycle for a still unfinished game
• Can be confusing to navigate without a walkthrough

The biggest issues I have with this game are the inability to carry forward saves in between games and the way any adult content is teased out to a ultimately unsatisfying climax.

The save issue is just completely unacceptable. Make what excuses you want, but for a game this long in development and with this much game play and story at this point, it's just plain terrible.

As for my second point about the adult content being teased out, the game falls on the same tropes far too often. Either you are being interrupted by something/someone suddenly or the characters shy away from each other for no reason to draw out the story. Then when you do finally unlock actual sexual content of substance it's pretty short and basic stuff. It's well done, but still not really worth the grind to get there.

These two issues overshadow what could have otherwise been a great game.

There are tons of reviews for this game already, but I would like to add my two cents in.

Pros:
1. Tons of well written and entertaining content.
2. Interesting, if not unique, artwork and style. Doesn't feel generic to me.
3. Easy interface, so weird button combos, etc. Simple and clean.
4. Im a sucker for cow print costumes, and the creator deleivers on that excellently.
5. Incest content, but not over the top imo, like some other games.

Cons:
1. My first play-through I felt a little lost/confused as to what I was supposed to be doing. Maybe the finished version will have more of an introduction to how the game is supposed to play out.
2. Updates are a little slow as it is with most games of this caliber, but there is already hours of content.
3. Old saves are highly unlikely to work with new releases, but the creator does post fully completed game saves on the Patreon.

All in all, great game with hours of play time. Definitely one of the better games out there, top 5 easily.

I can tell this is a passion project for the creator, not just because there are long gaps between updates, but because what is there is more story-telling and content- and a dedication to it- than most modern AAA video games.

But because I want to build a reputation for being an expert in all things OC (Oedipus Complex), in my review I want to focus mostly on the interactions the MC has with his mother and Aunt.

First thing is that the situation the MC finds himself in with his mother and her sister doesn't seem at all forced, contrived or empty. I appreciate that time is taken to not only develop a sense of camaraderie between a mother & son, but the organic way in which it is done. It's not just a horny teen boy making his mother confused about her own feelings and making her choose between breaking up a family in order to not break a taboo (although the creator narrowly avoids this cliche), but it shows that extraordinary events can create some extraordinary relationships.
There is also a sense of accomplishment that comes along with getting the "Ok" from the MC's mother and their first night together as lovers. Very few have managed to pull this off in an insightful way that keeps people like me coming back.
Then there is the MC's Aunt... Now I have to admit that this one did seem a bit more forced, but only slightly. This is because the creator decided to make the Aunt just as (if not more) hormonal as the MC. But he rewards our patience by giving us tender moments between those two later on, especially after the Aunt's wish comes true, thanks to you the player.
It should be added that it was a nice touch to add the character of Crystal (or was it Krystal?) to the game. It was the perfect contrast to the nice, gentle (and clean) mother and aunt. I think this is also why you have anal sex with this mother compared to the other two, who might be regarded as more angelic or "pure" by comparison.
Finally I would like to add that if I could, I would have actually given this a 4.5 out of 5 stars for 2 reasons.

1. You are never given the option to impregnate the MC's mom, despite the fact that her sister while still being a bit older as far as child-bearing goes, still goes through with many pregnancies- leaving us to wonder if the mom could've had at least one more viable egg left in those ovaries...
2. While I appreciate the contrast in character, the older sister lays it on a bit thick and comes across as waaaaay too much of a bitch to the MC when he hasn't done anything wrong. It makes it almost intolerable to go through her questline because I disliked her character that much. It also showed no sign that she was being a horrible cunt because of grief either since she shows no action or thought of caring that her father is in fact dead, and just compounds the frustration that the character must feel that his father is dead, and his older sister now has no check on her self-important pig-headedness. I definitely did not care much when I actually "won" the sperm minigame because then I realized that I had done something that no man with common sense should do: stick his dick in crazy.

Final notes: Great animation, a unique art style and way of making the characters pretty without making them all look like pornstars or hyper-idealized caricatures. Although it wouldn't be a pornographic game if there weren't some.
The minigames are clever, well thought out and unique. Politics in the game was incredibly risky, but we all know that the only people who would be offended by that stuff get their rocks off over at tumblr.

This is basically the gold standard of adult games. I initially hesitated bc the art style doesn't look all the great but once your playing its excellent. Animations are awesome, theres a wide variety of girls, tons of scenes. One downside is all the dialogue, but its written well and the story is good.

Probably THE porn game everyone knows about: Played this since 2017 and have been enjoying it despite its fair share of flaws.

For 0.19 the porn is lacking (despite being, you know, a porn game) given this has been in development for 5-6 months and was branded the BIGGEST update so far by Cookie, but Eve's story was moving and the characters in it pretty well made.: spent like 6 hours playing it from a brand new save and I throroughly enjoyed it. Probably my favorite update after Roxxy's. Also the freedom of choice on Eve's background was well done, probably being the best solution to please all sides.

Overall Summertime Saga has a slow development cycle and is plagued with bugs and save resets at every release, but the game is getting itself together after all these years and what's already in it can give you a good time. Always looking forward to every update despite of everything holding it back.

Of all the games I've played from this godforsaken website, this is one of the best. You can fuck your teachers, fuck that bitchy cheerleader, fuck your mom and your sister, everything that you could ever want out of one of these coomer games. The art is excellent, but the writing isn't the best. Another downer is losing your saves every update, but that's not a big deal. Totally worth a look.

Its time to leave the game.

1- Old save don't work. So we have to start again and again for each update

2-Incest content are very minimum in the newer updates. Main reason to start following because of incest content.

3-I don't know but i think the developers are trying to stretch the project for years.

4-They don't have a final story plot

5-I think its going to be a abandon project.

A game that lives in constant change and add new game options to entertain the public for hours and the best that is not over yet, so we can expect it to improve even more

The promise of the game and the art is pretty good and the game in its early stages really was fun and I was looking forward to the H-scenes as well as the genral story. Over time however the game got worse and worse and now it feels like a scam to be honest.
The Art got worse in my opinion, the update s take a very long time and the code seems to be a mess.

One of my favourite games! Love the CG, the sex animations are great, and most of the minigames are some sort of fun to play. The bad thing is that everytime a new update comes out, old saves don't work. But you can choose to start max at everything, and skip the mini games, so it's not that bad.

It's always nice to see variety of things to do, and a variety of characters.
In a way it feels complete because of how stable the game is, and the art quality is astonishing. There's a small part where you'd have to make choices in the game, it's very nice because you can see a different side in a character.

Minimal content added per update, with some updates actually removing content. The dev tries to either cover this up by making you play through the whole thing after each update, or is actually so incompetent they don't know how to add new variables without destroying saves. The art does not justify long update wait times, and the story with the sister has become worse.

Just an amazing game, amazing art, great gameplay and an amazing story. Also, like that not everyone in this game is "Unrealistic looking". Some look more averages and it gives the game so much more life.

Great game. My only real complaint is that I played it all and I dont think there is anything else to do. I like the graphics, the story, and the paths you can follow with some of the characters in the story. Looking forward to future updates and other games by this team.

A great and original game. For me was, once i started it, couldn't stop until i finished the version.
Also with option of incest (if that turns you on) funny, with great sex animations.
Other thing that i like about it was that you can keep up with the building of the next version, without being a patreon, on the live streams, and can give your opinion their too.

Great dialogue and story in so far as the characters are concerned as there is little in the way of the main storyline at this point. The main storyline does seem pretty standard but has a charm to it. The characters are all pretty likable and the situations the main character is placed in are often humorous and exciting. The art is wonderful. The animations though satisfying leave a few desires. It's completely forgivable as it is quite a complicated task. Each update has left me satisfied and in anticipation of upcoming developments. The humor in this game is perverted and childish, but not so much to be a turn-off.
Easily one of the best-crafted adult games out there and makes sophisticated use of the Renpy application, though I can't help but wonder if an alternate engine would have been better suited. Something like Unity.
In any regard, this game definitely deserves the support it has on Patreon and more.
