Concerning this discussion about DC and all...
TCMS is right: DC is probably THE most professional developer in Patreon, among maybe one or two other guys out
there. If any of you were around when AI (old coder) went MIA (it was 0.10 or 0.9, not sure) for a few days, you saw how DC was, BY FAR, the most pissed person about that, and the delay it would cause. He is extremely ethical when working.
Now, SS just went through some major changes, regarding its development: not only it has a new coder, Panda, but it also has a new guy (Hurfy) doing all the posing himself. This is the first time the new team is working together, and, if any of you ever faced the challenge of working on a whole newly assembled team, you know that the first few weeks are bound to have some hiccups here and there, as every member adjust to the team's workflow.
Also, Panda is, naturally, adjusting AI's code to his own. Anyone who knows a bit of coding knows that it can be a very personal thing, so it's only natural that Panda took the time to revise the whole code behind SS made by AI, in order for it to work according to his own workflow. Besides that, Hurfy is doing the posing for the very first time for SS, and, as long as I remember, he's a bit of a perfectionist, so I guess it might take him a release or two until he finds the right balance between perfectionism and speed.
That's probably why it's taking a bit longer than expected. And I'm quite confident that this will be much faster on forthcoming releases, as the team gets used to it.
That said, there were a few problems (which, btw, I told DC myself on Discord).
For instance, the communication concerning this whole situation could have been a lot better. Since there were almost none (you really have to dig and ask around to get a grip of what is currently happening), it's only natural that people got even more anxious than needed.
Also, I really think that SS needs a proper ETA for each release. The current workflow chart is anything BUT an ETA. Since we don't know what are the tasks, and how long we should expect for each to be done, that chart barely gives us a rough estimate (if that!).
In any line of work, if someone asks for an ETA, and you reply with a workflow chart with no dates on it, you'll probably get fired. It just isn't professional, which really contrasts with how DC works.
When people complain about a release being delayed, I usually just reply that it's how the gaming industry works, and that delays do happen frequently. Now, if someone asks me why there isn't an ETA at all, I have no reply. That's NOT how the gaming industry goes, and not how anyone who wants to be professional about anything should work.
Anything that does not have an official ETA will, usually, get delayed more than necessary. That's my personal experience, at least. It's just human nature.
Hopefully for us, DC told me that he's already working together with FL22 in order to improve that chart as well. ^^
As I said before: DC is extremely professional and dedicated, and the guy knows no boundaries when it comes to improving his project (be it the game, or its development).
