Ren'Py - Summertime Saga [v21.0.0 wip.5597] [Kompas Productions]

Introduction
Summertime saga is a point and click Ren'Py game that actually started me off down the rabit hole that is the adult game genre. If there were a game that is renown in a genre, I feel this game would be it for adult games as a whole due to its massive popularity of 25,000+ patrons alone, and $67,000+ a month budget! *SPOILERS AHEAD*

Story
Summertime saga focuses on an 18 year old dude whos father just passed away, and he is living with "close friends" of his father, that being Debbie (basically his mother), and Jenny (basically his sister). I place these side notes given the interactions between the character and these two characters. I still don't know if this was intended, or if it was down to Patreons ToS.

Either way, the story progresses with the main character going back to school, with his best friend Erik, and continuing his, what is a seemingly, normal life. Only to find out that his grades have dropped significantly and the dominatrix principle, Mrs. Smith tells him to sort it out.

Then from here on out, you focus on getting your dick wet, and increasing your grades. There is another plot on the side that isn't fully done yet, which focuses on the debt that your deceased father (linked twice in case you are interested in key details) has unfortunately passed down onto you from some very official looking thugs. The debt was incurred through the bank your father once worked at, but it is unclear as to how. It's very heavily hinted at throughout the story that your father was murdered, but until more information comes out in future updates, there's not much more to say.

Characters
There is a massive character roster in this game. In fact, I would like to discuss them all, but it would take FAR too long. If that interests you, check them all out here. Despite this, I will discuss core characters and the diversity which gives this game a perfect score.

Debbie - The mother figure of the game, with some wonderful dialogue to reaffirm this. I mentioned her enough earlier, so I won't go into more detail.
Jenny - The sister figure of the game, who seemingly hates the MC, but actually really likes him. Again, like Debbie, I discussed her enough earlier.
Diane - The family friend/aunt of the game, who has a very odd business practice of selling breastmilk. The MCs first job is found here, and continues into a lot more later on.
Erik - The fat best friend, that you can actually hook up with someone! In exchange you get his mother which is pretty funny. Erik serves more as a punching bag more than anything else throughout the game, but he looks out for the MC as best as he can throughout (unless you're a dick to him and fuck his crush).
Eve (recently core) - The emo schoolgirl who is a fantastic artist. She was only made a core character recently, and her character is really interesting. She has massive burdens to bear, and seems really carefree despite it all. (She also has a sister who just looks like a grown up version of her)
Mia - The cloistered religious girl, who doesn't seem to want to follow the rules of her religion. You have some choices that impact who you end up with as well throughout.
Roxxy - The slutty bitch of the school, who has quirky little followers, and a jacked up boyfriend. This character really couldn't follow more tropes if she tried.
Teachers - I place all of them together for a reason, that being they all follow a similar dynamic, but all have difference characteristics. I believe 2 teachers have stat requirements to progress, while the others have item requirements.

Oh sorry, did I forget to mention that ALL of these characters have fully fleshed out stories, and scenes (some with multiple choice scenarios resulting in different scenes). If you want a game with content, THIS IS THE GAME FOR YOU!

Writing
The writing in summertime saga is fantastic. There are themes of comedy, sadness, and sexiness. All of which are conveyed at perfect times, resulting in you connecting with characters in a deeper way (innuendo not intended). I don't really think there could be much improvement in the way of the writing with the characters.

Scenes/animations/fetishes
Okay, so how many scenes, are they animated, and how many fetishes?

There is a shitload of scenes in this game, most are animated, and a significant amount of fetishes are present. I'll list some of them:

Big tits, little tits, teen, MILFs, teachers, student, impregnation (I don't think you can fuck when pregnant but I couldn't find it any when I looked it up), domination, submission, sleeping, creeping, the list honestly goes on.

Due to the sheer quanity of content this game offers, there is probably something for everyone here. Even if it's just a scene or two, it's still something.

The animations are done super well, and the art style of this game is super sleek and streamlined it's crazy.
Performance/Bugs
The game runs fine for the most part from my experience, however I have had a number of crashes and rollback erros when playing. Some of the other "bugs" I would say are more down to the writing in the game, which is exceptional, but if you play events out in a certain way, it can kill the flow.

A core example of this is when you fuck Erik's crush. After you fuck her, Erik basically refuses to talk to you properly. BUT if you haven't done the interactions with Eve, or Roxxy yet he is more than happy to help you. I assume this is an oversight due to the sheer volume of content, but it's a critique nonetheless.

Personal pros and cons
This section is for my own personal opinions both in and out of the game.

Firstly, I really like the art style of this game. The way DarkCookie draws is so amazing, and it really highlights why the game is so popular. If you too are interested in his art, and want to catch him drawing, he streams it here.

Secondly, the ease of access to information on quests, characters, items, etc. is all perfectly laid out on the website wiki. If you have any issues, or want to know anything about this game, the information will likely be here.

Okay, now that I have mentioned all the good about this game so far, you are probably thinking there is nothing I dislike about this game or its devs. That is where you would be wrong. I very much dislike the way DarkCookie interacts with his community, specifically on Patreon. Sometimes there will be breaks that could last anywhere between 2-4 months, and not a single word will be said in the comments on his Patreon, or even on the main page.

Not to mention the lack of moderation on his Patreon too! There have been many people spreading harmful downloads, and fake patches in his OWN Patreon page, and nothing is done about them, or at least so it seemed a few months ago when I was active there. I quickly checked now, I struggled to find them, so perhaps they have been moderated better. But some more connection with the community would be wonderful.

The Patreon's love your game, so let them know what is going on with some small updates every now and then and connect with the community in the comments please! Also, I understand with a community as large as this it can be hard, but just some acknowledgement is nice.

Finally, this point is more directed at some of the fans than the game itself. Please, for the love of God, stop pestering this developer every week. If it's a month with no info, by all means post about it, but when a new update comes out don't harrass him immediately about new content, I can't imagine how frustrating that would be.

Summary
In conculsion, this has to be one of the most funded and worked on adult games I have ever really seen. Sure it doesn't post content very frequently, but when it does it is fantastic. This really does the quality over quanity phrase justice.

we got good story,minigame,mistery/puzle,animation,character desain,sound and the mechanic system.

the problem of this game is the file save game only work for curent version and we need make a new one again + the update some time is to long but its reasonable because the good juice content they make.

Love it, the build up, the diversity, the girls. the art it´s all spot on!The updates are rather fast aswell doesnt feel grindy. Considering to become a patreon to support development. I´m in love with the milfs and I wonder if you can play gay scenes aswell for people whoem are into that.

Probably the highest quality game I've seen on the site. The amount of characters and side plots and storylines make this a thoroughly enjoyable play. Some people grumble about the amount of time Kompas takes to produce new versions and make updates but it's a free game so I don't really care. What exists today already is very high quality and a lot of fun to get into. I would recommend it for anyone

It is really a nice game,
+ beautifully made graphics and animated sex scenes
+ It is not a grindfest game (far away from it)
+ nice characters

There are some stuff I do not like, but it is still a very good game.
- I do not like the prices of most stuff you need to buy. Especially later it is not hard to make money!
- the amount of milk produced is ridiculous.

- It's a Trap! But not the trap itself and also not who it is!!!

- I do not like that the 3 Rappers are not friends of Eve anymore! And they are more or less assholes, now. :-(

- the game has only Impregnation Sex, not Pregnant Sex, I hope this will change in the future. The Pregnant Tag in this forum is a little bit misleading. :-( It was the first game here I came in contact with this issue here.

Also, but I do not count this:
- I like consentual incest sex, but not making incest baby's! I hope in the future it would be possible to add a drug from the hospital lab, which does make incest save through some kind of genetic.... But as long the maker of the game does not offer a more or less official incest mod, I think it would be not possible. Damn Patron!

You should also know:
+- old saves are often not compatible, so it is better to plan not to play every version of it. Instead better wait 2-4 versions. I think the main reason why they are not really compatible is, because some old stuff get changes.
+- the producer need really long to update the game. I think it would be a good idea to get a colorist making it possible to work on the grafics and animations faster.
* I play normally with the Naughty Tribute Mod (NTM) and Lain's mod Better wait few days until all issues with those mods removed. They are worth it!
* The NTM maker should be added to the Summertime Saga team!
* New is a Hairy mod! Which I didn't test, yet.

* the mod is crap and I do not really want to play the game without it. But do not misundertand, I'm really thankful that someone does work on it!!! (I added an 'Additional Lines' mod to add the missing changes for incest, but I do not play every version of the game and can often only add something if someone gives me a save of a found issue!)

You can see that this game is made with much dedication, and a wiki also with help if you are stuck and not using Lain's mod!

And if you see the content polls, there are sooo much ideas not made. And hopefully everything will be in the game in the future.

I'm a huge fan of this game i highly enjoy it the art work is incredible hand drawled, the way the game draws you in very immersive i honestly would play this even if it didn't have sex scenes in it which the scenes are a very good bonus to this game. Summertime Saga is a true work of art alot of pros and only a few and i mean a few cons but those cons are of a personal matter me personally i enjoy the eve, Grace and Odette arcs and would very much like if they had more scenes but other then that personal con i enjoy this game it's ranked 3 in my top ten adult games i enjoy i highly recommend this game.

Quality game which is rare when it comes to ren'py. Takes awhile to get to the sex scenes imo but when you get there there is a LOT of content to see and they just keep adding more. Excited to see this game finish and hopefully get a steam release.

It's a great game and highly recommended and has a good adventure gameplay with point-n-click. But the reason I’m not giving it 5 stars it is for the reason of several things. I played this game at the end of 2018, it was at that time that I discovered the Summertime Saga. I had found the game incredible and it still remains that way, there were a lot of characters to interact with and some of them you had sexual interaction with. Many things in the game were still under construction, so I gradually started to follow its updates. At one time, I lost interest, the last update I was excited about was when they got pregnant, I hadn’t seen any games with it and I thought it was amazing. But after the pregnancy, I stopped following, the developers were adding other characters and changing the script of the story and some other things. So the last update I remember was Eve, it was good, because they added content from this girl and 2 more girls, but the other girls only we had 1 or 2 sex scenes, a disappointment for me.

So, I'm editing this analysis to make it shorter and this is one of the reasons for not giving 5 stars. DarkCookie brought a new environment to the game, changed the whole scenario, everything is more beautiful and elegant, also changed the story script and added new characters. The fact is that new characters are cool, but the game has many and many of them only have 1 or two sex scenes. The developer spent a little time with mini-games, I didn't particularly see much interest in playing mini-games, especially in this game that has a little delay in gameplay. Therefore, I could see that in these updates something is wrong. Do you know when you discover an oil well or gold mine and you want to get more and more? I wouldn’t like to talk about this topic of patreon, I think that’s uncomfortable, but, probably if this game didn’t get that much support it would be finished quickly. They take 4 to 6 months to bring new content, and to earn money, you just need to touch what already exists. For example, improving the game scenario, this is really good, but wasting time with mini-games? ok, no problem. Add new characters and there are other existing ones. Wouldn't it be better to work on the old characters and then add new ones? This means that the more they add new characters and stories, but the script is changed. One positive thing is that they manage to organize everything in the game, but what about sexual content? because in this last update I found the contents quite weak. Yes, bringing characters with only 1 or 2 scenes and taking another 6 months to give 4 more scenes is something that is very discouraging. So, this game is full of sexual content, but, on second thought, there could be much more.
There are several good developers trying to get support to continue and when you see this game having slow updates and moderate content and being cheered they end up sucking your fingers. Of course, Summertime Saga brings good and organized content to its fans, I don't want to judge them, but, I'm not trying to imply that they should add more sexual content, in fact yes, they should, but anyway a porn game without a lot of sexual content is not a very interesting game. I'm not saying that this game doesn't have it, but Summertime Saga has a lot of characters and some of them have only 1 scene or 2. And to be able to see these scenes you will have to grind a little, you know?

I don’t understand how this great game passed me by! I recommend to all! Success to the author! And the speedy completion of this amazing project! Of course, this is one of the best games on this site. It is imperative to support the project.

I'm a sucker for 2D adult games and Summertime Saga is no exception. I had great fun playing it, but - and that is a big "but" for me - bringing real life people, especially controversial ones, into the game (Kim, Rump & family, Gamsay etc.) is a major turn off for me and the reason I give this game 3 instead of 5 stars.

That is the last thing I want to see in an adult game, and not only because I'm European.

Well written, well scripted, the art is fantastic, and there's SO MUCH to do. I look forward to more. (Please more Eve content!) The characters are diverse, interesting, and 3-dimensional. Far and away my favorite among the genre.

been enjoying this game since version 15. glad to see it still improving. I also appreciate the direction the story seems to be going, and can hardly wait for the next update. a truly great game with very erotic scenes that cover a wide variety of kinks and interests.

I enjoyed playing the game. The art is beautiful and the gameplay is passable for a porn game. Some of the characters in the game are well written. Especially Roxxy, her entire story, and character development was well done. The end result was totally worth it
The reason why I gave it 4 stars is that once you have completed the routes of all the characters, you basically have nothing interesting left to do. I hope they add more riveting gameplay mechanics in the future.

Blows pretty much every other porn game out of the water, and 5/5 stars just isn't enough to do this game justice. The one negative is the time between updates and the fact it doesn't go on forever. The level of polish here is just incredible.

Most of these games get really tedious to play start to finish as they accumulate updates. They just aren't balanced for a complete playthrough and this starts to show. Not so here! In fact it's eminently playable and if you're starting out now you have a solid week or more of fun ahead trying to find all the scenes. Make no mistake: It's is a real adventure game. And it has porn!

The amount of detail, character and just sheer personality in the characters and locations is just incredible. It goes way beyond what any DAZ game I've seen can offer, even the most polished one.. And it's laugh out loud funny at times, too, without trying too hard. The combination of expressive art, pop culture references (some of them showing how long the game has been worked on by now) and production quality really shines in every way.

To sum it all up, I really can't say enough good things about this. I'm gonna skip the usual PROS and CONS format because I really don't have any cons. PLAY THIS NOW!

One of the Most Awesome Adult game out ever, and its not even complete yet. The Characters are amazing, you're going to love them and hate them , The art is just fantastic, The gameplay loop is neither too grindy neither too fast, and the progression is perfect pase. Really like the MC as well, and slowly the world builds up on you.The Story takes its while to unfold slowly, but just the city sim adventure is worth it. Great immersion, awesome art, and hoping for more naughty stuff to come with the characters! 10/10

Sadly this game has reached rock bottom and started digging, to see a game fall this far is so sad, this has been one of my favourite games for a long time and has some of my favourite kinks most of which are quite rare to see so i really dissapointed it has got to this level.

The 2 main things that have gone down hill are the characters and the story, when this game first started the story had a lot of promise but now its like someone asked a 12yo who interns at CNN to write a mob story and this is the result.

Most of the things that go on in the story make no sense examples: after that the story devolves into one thing
As for the characters the MC is empty, if they said he had an iq of 6 i would be surprised its that high, he has never heard of any phrase ever(watching him fail to get every single saying that exists is just sad), he takes every single thing said to him at face value(dosent seem to know what sarcasm or joking is), will follow any order he is given without question no matter how dumb(even from long term enemies/bullies but for some reason not his sister) and forget about thinking ahead this MC cant even think in the moment and has to be told to think, honestly if at the end of the game they revealed he was actually an alien who had no concept of human emotions it would have made the character make more sense.

Moving on to the women, the vast majority of them are horrible truly horrible people that any normal person would want nothing to do with but the MC does with the attitude of i'm a man and men like sex so any sex is good even if its blackmail sex, forced sex, used for your body alone sex, pity sex, drunk sex, on and on but really if you reversed the rolls quite a lot of the sex in this game would raise red flags and no you dont get a choice with which women to have sex with.

Alot of the sex scenes are really poorly done and lose any form of erotism.

The incest content has degraded to the point that it would take a major rewrite to add it to the game again.

There is very little left of this game from its original start.
