Ren'Py - Summertime Saga [v21.0.0 wip.6440] [Kompas Productions]

The game is set in "college" but the school is clearly meant to be a high school. The staff is clearly high school teachers, the students are clearly high school students, and the MC is clearly a generic and somewhat ugly high school loser. It'd make more sense to be set in an actual college or university because at least there it's reasonable for students to come and go from campus.

As far as I can tell, there isn't any actual game to play right now. You start with more money than you could ever use and can rewind at any time.

"Art style" is unattractive and frankly bad. It's something you'd expect out of South Park, but there it's a stylistic choice and other substance makes up for visuals.
People in the game are just caricatures of themselves- massive saggy tits, ridiculous clothing, excessive loyalty to a single trait. Each character you interact with seems to have been written after only one sentence of planning; "MILF caretaker with huge saggy tits.," "Stuck-up girl with huge tits," "Pent up rich lady with huge tits," "Nerd girl with huge saggy tits," so on and so forth.

Tried both versions available. The original where it stopped was pretty damn good, lactation content was solid if only that nun was a hucow option, a solid 4 for sure and I can see how the game got big that was quality. The new version though has so much less content after so long, and it's definitely far less sexual content, even ignoring whatever is going on with it's development it's maybe a 2 it just seems barren. Average those to a 3.

before the the rework id have given this a 4 star but this current rework is rubbish developer lacks new story and art and couldn't move forward so he started this rework to keep milking the hell out of this game

For the most part it's an ok porn game when I last played. There isn't anything particularly groundbreaking about it (not that there needs to be.) Nor are the sex scenes particularly titillating. The biggest downside (much like with other media) is the inclusion of real-world individuals and events, which can lead to the content becoming extremely dated and divisive for no good reason. (You can immediately tell how the creator views certain individuals because they have the tact of a brick being thrown through a window.)

Still solid for what it is even though they've just gone back to refreshing the old storylines instead of opting for adding more content or different characters. The kind of game you come back and check in on after a year or two when the mood strikes you.

This was the first +18 game I ever played, and I have a lot of affection for it, despite the poor management by the creator who only updates it whenever he wants. The game is really good, with an interesting story, good mini-games, and great characters.

Summertime Saga was a pioneer when it launched back in 2016, standing out with its unique art and gameplay. It quickly became a huge financial success. However, today, everything about it feels mid-tier — the art, the story, and the gameplay have all been surpassed by newer titles. It seems clear the developer knows this and is just riding the nostalgia wave, continuing to take money from long-time fans. Realistically, it feels like there’s no real intention to finish the game anymore, just to keep it alive enough to sustain the income.

I am honest. For a long time this was my favorite game here... but that was maybe ... 6 years ago?

While I think that the sandbox and world system for Summertime Saga was and is maybe very influencial for a lot of other games on this platform... the whole controversy about the development speed and the literal rewriting of the whole game is a hugh setback for me.

The game has overall a lot of different kinks and a TON of characters to interact with. I also enjoy the artstyle and the overall setting of the game.

Favorite story parts: Story with Jenny, Mia, Grace and my favorite french teacher Ms. Bissette

I hope the game can find back to its development speed from ~2018/19. Will definitly revisite it again after the so called "tech update"

I love the game's artwork, especially because it's in a 2D cartoon style, unlike most adult games. I just don't think it's perfect, because in my opinion there are some games that are better in this respect.

I think the developers overdid it with the number of characters. They've only increased, update after update.

One of the consequences of this is that characters like Judy, Mia and Rhonda, who have been in the game since the first versions, haven't had their stories deepened until today.

As for the story itself, I'm not a big fan of the main story and some of the routes (side stories) in the game. On the other hand, I really like Roxxy and Eve's routes.

Gameplay [5/5]

Without a doubt, this is the Ren'py base game (if you can call it that, since they've changed the engine over time) with the best minigames and gameplay features I've played.

Final thoughts:

Despite the game being surrounded by controversy and delays, mainly due to technological upgrades, I hope that the game follows its course and reaches a conclusion, as it was the first adult game that I had contact with.

Game is way too good to rate it lower than a 4. People are mad about the remastered version lacking most of the content that the first had, but dawg the first version is still here. There's so much content in this game that's high quality and the grind isn't some dumbass +1 mechanic. Scenes are tied to the story in a satisfying way, you have to pay some attention to the dialogue to know what to do. Sure there may be a lack of updates but the game already has a shit ton of actually interesting content with actually great art.

I feel sorry for rating the current version with only 2 stars.

The game before the major update was pretty good but the development was already very slow and the big update cut almost 90% of the content.

For the game itself:

Art-Style is top notch, hand drawn and animated. Very unique setting and characters. Surroundings and visitible places are very detailed and fitting. Characters are more comicy and probably not everyones taste.

Music and stuff is ok. Nothing special but well selected and not annoying.

Gameplay got better with every update (oldschool 2016 to 2022ish). Map was overhauled directions became very clear. Progressing was confusing but thanks to the walkthroughs straight forward. Some events require level ups which is a bit grindy (rap battle, dojo) but actually fun.

The story is a story and straight forward, Wording is super. No mixed up story lines.

It generally took already too long and there was only little progress with every update but now it came to a halt, As everything is hand drawn by 1 person it is clear that it will take forever to release a final 1.0.

Current state is a 2 stars game, previous a 4 star due to the slow updates.

I am talking about the stable version not the still updated one.
Graphics is ok, don't really vibe with the artstyle but it is good enough.
Character diversity is one of the best in a game like that. Different races, ages(yeah not gonna touch that subject), styles etc. Great. The only problem i could see is that it is very heavily what i would consider to be "default" biased, but well it is a default afterall.
Music and sounds? Really bad. Not even the quality itself, but the fact it is LACKING HEEAAAAAAAAAAAVILY, there just isn't enough of it and it really hurts the game, I guess you can put your own music and sex sounds but with normal sounds? Yeah that is a problem
It is a "minigame'y" type of game, besides the usual vn stuff, so how are they, well mediocre. Some are cool, some are just why, but there isn't really an indepth one that you could fixate on.
There are some bugs but none of them are very bad.
It has a really good cg scene gallery which is a plus, the only minus is that there isn't anything written about how to get them and some of them are more obscure than others.
The event where the gangsters steal your money made me annoyed heavily - I only later realized the game autosaves a lot and there is a bank(skill issue)
The text density isn't bad overall, but a few conversations are REALLY long.
Overall the game is average. Not in the some people will like it some not. More of a i doubt anyone will dislike it heavily(besides the update rate etc but that is a different question) but it doesn't have much that would put it at the top(besides maybe the character roster)

last time i played this game was like 2~3 years ago and it was okay 3/5
but this tech update made game so much better high res less grind and etc .
also there some new scene from what i rember .
there is nothing much to do right now aand mostly i already played so waiting for new update .

This game is truly perfection. It has a variety of relationships and every girl design that doesn't have piercings or tattoos are absolutely delicious. There is a great deal Improvement in this new version then in the older version. Hopefully when this game does finish will be more things you can do with all the girls than what you can in the original version. I can't wait to see how much this new version will grow.

The tech update version feels like a scam. It has been in development for years and is missing many key game features. The entire map is empty, there are no character icons, no stats, and many NPCs are absent from the game.

Instead of creating new content or a new game, the developer is porting existing content to a newer platform, thus generating easy and steady income for years without having to invent or create anything new.

I would give the tech version a 1 out of 5 right now. The original game is better, but it has its own downsides.

The quests are boring, the character models are wonky and unappealing, and the stats and money progression are flat, making the gameplay tedious—just 10 clicks and you're done. It takes a long time to reach the sex scenes, after which nothing really changes in your relationship. It feels like a game over; you can repeat the scene, but there are no further interactions. There is no buildup, no tension, and no real relationships. You simply complete quests to unlock a scene, and that's it.

Oh what do i say about this game. At one point it was a symbol to be followed to be inspired by and now its become lack luster in the pursuit of greed. When I first followed this game it was by the time of the halloween update of 2022 a promise to make this game truly remarkable but sadly it had reached what I consider for now its peak and slow decline.

The gameplay (Before the reset) was honestly kinda fire funny and captivating even if it was a bit goofy for what it was going for but it was steady and knew whatit set out to do even if I personally didnt like some parts it was good.

Now the issue arises of the fated reset where it frankly seemed the devs realized their power and lost their motive and now push bottom of the barrel updates that were a core gameplay mechanics since 2020. I sure do hope that people give them some incentive to better the game because the way its going right now we wont see a complete game before the 3rd impact.

So sadly I rate the game 2 stars the animations that have been there since 2022 cant save it now unless they put some work in.

(Wake me up when Odette gets more stuff in the new system cause that's part of the reason I stayed for so long)

This game is truly top tier. I've played many games that try to emulate this games's story and functions but hardly any of them even come close the the quality and volume of content present in summer time saga.

The game has very good art, solid writing and likable characters without the excessive grind that many other games in this genre sometimes have.

The only downside to this game is the speed of the updates. Years can pass with nothing so much as a creator update post, however that being said, the game is also mostly done. The main story has been finished and most of the girls, with the exception of a few side characters, have all had their routes completed, which makes this game far more complete than many others in the adult genre.

As far as content goes, provided you're straight, theres a plethora of genres and fetishes that will most likely suite your taste. The vast majority of the content is relatively vanilla. The MC sort of develops a Harem, though very few of the girls really know about each other and the complications of having like 50 girlfriends is never really addressed. To top it all off theres even a pregnancy system, which in my opinion gives the scenes slightly more weight or impact.

Overall this is a very good game.

Excellent story and deserves to be in the hall of fame of porn games. I am eagerly awaiting the continued updates for this game and enjoy the large amount of interactions you can have with different characters all around the city and the ability to repeat many of them whenever you want.

[TECH UPDATE 21.0.0]
I decided to revisit this game again after a while, the last time I played it was before the Tech Update.

Overall, it's pretty disappointing.

NEGATIVE POINTS:
ART: There was no significant change in the character art, just a polish.

SEX SCENES: There was no change, it's just the same scenes as before the Tech Update, only now, there are very few scenes.

CUT OF CONTENT AND MINI-GAMES: The entire story, secondary progressions with characters, scenes, etc. were cut, there is only a small part of the story in this current state of the game, and again, nothing new.

CONCLUSION:
The Tech Update so far has not brought anything new, it cut everything that had been done until then to ultimately deliver the same thing that was already there before the update.

It was once one of the best games, if not the best, but now it has declined a lot.

Will it ever be the same again?
Only time will tell...
