Ren'Py - Summertime Saga [v21.0.0 wip.6705] [Kompas Productions]

Its just not worth the hype which once it had. There are other better games, where the developer is either not lazy or greedy which this developer is. It used to be fun game, with great character design and art work. But since past few updates its just rehashing the previous scenarios.

Highly suggest to play Before Tech Update version.
Developer is milking Tech Updates as if they were Debbie.

Now to the obvious of a Review. What likely has been said multiple times by other users.

This is the 2D Game Ren'py game.
The hype for it back in the day was crazy.

Art style is very clean and pronounced.
Gameplay is typical puzzles, mini-games, sandbox.
Story is alright and music is non-existent.

Variety of content whilst not extreme, is there.
You can bang anything from an alt scene Trans, to a GILF or even a Monster Girl.

So Stable version is 5 Stars, but since the thread has Tech version included and being the sole focus for the past 3 years has knocked the overall rating down to 3 Stars.
I can't reward what is going on with this. Technically not Abandoned...but you know.

Best Renpy game out there. Loads of content and very good writing and direction. The new version is taking a bit too much time to complete, but that does not mean it doesn’t deserve the five stars rating. Game have top tier milfs and fun open world gameplay, with loads of content and quests.

Its sad to see the the game like this. It used to be my favorite game but dev started to fuck this up. Other than remaking the game it would've been great if he jst add few scene or introduce new characters cause the game was perfect before.

The game is being redone when there was not a reason to. Besides the dev almost never updates it. It will never be finished at this point. Just go play the older version with the old engine. Has more content than this.

Absolutely brilliant game! The graphics are stunning, gameplay is addictive, and the story keeps you hooked for hours. Best purchase I've made this year. Highly recommend to everyonee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had played Summertime Saga back in 2021, and it was absolute peakest peak. There used to be so much freedom of exploring,many scenes, and good pacing. This version killed everything!!!

Now you can basically go everywhere, but everything is empty, some characters can't be found at their home (Mia), feels like story is stagnating and they removed all sex scenes in my opinion. Idk if they made this to make us pay for the Patreon version or smth, but this is plain garbage right now, zero point in playing.

I wouldn’t call Saga a good game, but I wouldn’t call it a bad one either. It’s obviously unfinished, but it definitely has soul.

To begin with, for those who haven’t played it and who are unsure whether it’s worth spending their time or not (just like I was about a week ago, lol):

1. Don’t wait a full release or anything like that, the game is more abandoned than not.
   
   
2. Saga is definitely worth at least giving it a chance.
   
   
3. Start with the so-called stable version. The tech update in it's current state is only for those who already completed stable version and who want to see Debbie’s reworked route (which is clearly better than in the stable version, to be fair). Just don’t forget to install the incest patch, without it many characters and their relationships feel weird and unnatural.

Now about the game itself (the stable version), or rather about the downsides - of which there are A LOT:

1. The near-total absence of sound. An extremely strange decision from the developer, and it significantly worsens the experience. And it’s hard to explain this by anything other than plain laziness. What’s the problem with adding at least basic ambient sounds from a free library to EVERY location in the game?
   
   
2. The developer clearly doesn’t have much gaming experience. From a game design standpoint, this game is a mess. With most of its mechanics (aside from the basic visual novel mechanic - reading text and choosing options in dialogs) one question arises: why does this even exist?

Why Saga has minigames? To make gaming process more “diverse”? Nope, because it’s just brainless clicking, there’s absolutely no challenge in these minigames. Or are they supposed to increase immersion? Also nope, because they’re again just mindlessly clicked through. And what immersion can we talk about in a game with no sound, lol? Honestly, if there were an option to disable all minigames, I’d pick it without hesitation.

Why Saga has branching routes? Usually in visual novels, after a branch you get several more hours of content for each path, but here the branches hit a dead end literally 10–15 minutes later. And what was the problem with letting the protagonist “have” both Mia and Helen at the same time? Or letting the protagonist (and Eric) “have” both June and Eric’s mom simultaneously? No clue.

(The only branching that actually makes sense is in Eve’s route but that raises a new question. So, the developer gives us the option to make a kink/fetish optional in a side route, but in the main story we aren’t given such an option and can’t avoid the “wife sharing” kink. Weird. Just weird.)

And even if we look at the basic component of this game - the visual novel aspect - there are problems too. Not only are some routes blocked by others for no apparent reason, but most routes aren’t synchronized with each other. Progress in your relationship with a character in one route does not affect that character in other parallel routes. As a result, we have at least 3 different versions of Roxxy, at least 2 versions of Eve, 2 versions of Dexter (and so on), all existing at the same time.


But the game also has its positives. It’s immediately obvious which routes the developer actually enjoyed working on (the main story, Roxxy, Eve, the protagonist’s family, all characters in the Saga Dealership), while other routes feel unfinished and rushed.

And the “action” scenes themselves are good. It’s impressive how many kinks/fetishes the developer managed to fit into ONE game.

Overall, Saga leaves the impression not of a game (unfinished or otherwise), but of a sandbox the developer was playing around in. You can see where he was genuinely interested and went deep even into the most minor characters (you’ll never forget Odette), and where he quickly got bored and abandoned the idea. And I’m afraid Saga may never become a real, complete game. But I’d be happy to be proven wrong.

First I have to say, one of the best (if not the best) 2D game in this whole platform. I always heard it mentioned in every place where discussing about the best h-games, and now, after finally completing it (stable version obvious), I finally get why everyone talks about it.

Opposite to what the wiki says, the best way to play the game (and also a way to almost vanish every grind/slowness sensation while playing) is doing 3-4 quests at the same time (besides the main story). Just have the wiki at hand to check things, just to make sure to not block quests or having an issue (although I don't consider it so necessary since I didn't have a single issue about it).

Usually, I don't stories so serious in this kind of games, but this one really makes you want to know more and keep playing, not only to bastardly jerk off, but also (and sometimes even more) for exploring the main and the side quests. The strongest point I found was the characters: their personalities and stories are pretty good, some of them a bit dumb, bust most of them plenty interesting. The variety of backstories, the way to progress in each quest, and the character development, are pretty nice. Tony and Maria; Eve, Grace and Odette; Roxxy and her friends; Debbie, Jenny and Diane; and a large etcetera, they're all really good quests. No, this is not the Shakespeare or Tolkien heir, but, talking about h-games, it's definitely something else, and something special, something worth of a little piece of my heart and memories.

I found gameplay and mini games entertaining, something weird even to me, since mini games in almost every h-game usually are shit. And, what to say about art and animations. Probably the only area where everyone agrees this game is great. The variety of animations, angles, positions, and practices (some of them including some fetishes like foot or other stuff) is awesome (despite having some characters with thousands of animations and then others with 1 or 2).

But, there are two things I found dissapointing about the game: 1, despite having so much content, there are many parts where the game feels incomplete, or even abandoned, as if the dev said "fuck the things I haven't done, let's introduce another big ass characterwith 1 blowjob and 1doggy-style scene". 2, I was excited when I found the game was receiving a kind of "remake/remaster", and all scenes and storylines were getting reworked, but, I've seen the development rythm it's slow as fuck, and seems that this game will get really completed (because, as I said, stable version isn't completed at all) once Elon Musk discovers how to time-travel and deletes the tweet sharing his horrifying Elden Ring built.

A shame, since this game has everything to be the GOAT, but seems to not want to be it, and just longing its life-time by bad.

At the end, I highly recommend to play the stable version (specially with the naughty tribute mod), and I trully hope dev gets hands on and works more deeply in this gem.

I spent some time playing this game a long time ago and I think it's a gem. There are lots of storylines, everything is well written, and the game is fun. The visuals are great and really capture the overall atmosphere.

It will raise your expectation for what a good porn game is. Unfortunately devs are milking patreon money ($500k + a year MINIMUM) and what should be finished in a month takes a year. Seriously DarkCookie, you are rich enough already, just update the game.

At this point very disappointing lack of content after almost 10 years of development. THe artstyle is the only thing that saves this game, however without serious shift in development speed i cant see future for it

I would've given this five stars a couple years back but the dev just completely gave out on progressing the plot forward, and although the original game is still there it's quite a shame to not be able to see more of the girls. Still keeps half the stars cause even though it probably will never go forward again it still has what it once was.

By far the best western dating sim. It's been almost a decade and still nothing else comes close for me sadly.

Once you play this game you're gonna be chasing the same high.


4 stars because DC is lazy

Well to start with the game is mostly complete if you play the 0.20.16 pre-Tech version (with the Naughty Tribute mod). As you may know the dev basically decided to remake the game due to the engine limitations with the original code which is understandable but the speed to catch up with the pre-tech build has been very slow. At the current rate I dont expect them to reach parity for at least 3-4 years. Though the final version of the game will be amazing (if ever finished).

That said you can still play and enjoy the game with the pretech version and the naughty tribute mod (basically a bug fix/QOL mod which improves everything). This is what I opted to do. Now for the review, the game is surprisingly fun, there are many routes you can take with characters and some stuff is very hot. I loved the Maria/Pizzeria story, Jenny (your "roommate"), and Eve (which has an interesting twist). All these routes had a slightly taboo theme which made them very cool.

These routes seemed the most complete to me, for the rest of the game there are many routes which seem partially done. Such as the school is missing content from the Gym teacher and Rhonda (the one of the few black female characters in the game), and other than unlocking sex scenes your grades dont matter. So throughout the playthrough I always felt like many routes ended abruptly. Now does that affect the enjoyment of the game? No, as I still got almost 20 hours out of it by going for 100% (do use a walkthough though).

The main story is actually not bad and is completely finished, with even a epilogue section. The ending is also satisfying. If I were to sum it up, I wish the game was longer, the minigames are not bad but some are repetitive (like the pizza one) but luckily almost everything is skippable (thanks to the mod), and I also wish the ending had multiple choices. Overall its a 7.5/10 right now. Once the remake is complete it might be 8.5 or even 9 but I cant say. It is a great starter game in this genre.

Where is the game? (2/10) - Can someone explain to me what happened with the game? I though I downloaded the wrong file lol. Completely empty world. Is a Skip the day game with some sex scenes in the middle.

2/10 for the scenes, some of the stories and graphics that cater to diff people. Although many have giant misshapen tits. What is that about?

Used to be the goat but after 3 years with barely any content and barely any updates? I cant defend DC but you never know when it might turn around. Definitely still worth checking out and checking on from time to time. If regular big updates started coming back out, I would change it back to a 5 star.

A funny story, with a variety of body types.
Rarely any bugs, each character is well written, and the lighthearted tone combined with visually appealing gameplay makes for a really good game.
Definitely a game worth trying out.

This was the first adult game I ever played, and I still have a special place for it, even tho the dev sometimes take way too long between updates. But honestly, the wait is worth it. The story is fun and has a lot of crazy moments, mini games are actually addictive, and the characters feel alive. I really like the art style, the 2D cartoon look is way better than those weird 3D models you see in most games.

There’s a ton of characters, maybe even too much. Some of the old ones like Mia and Rhonda haven’t got much new content for years, which is sad cause they’re awesome. But I really enjoyed Roxxy’s route, and Eve’s story is probably my fav in the whole game.


Gameplay [5/5]
Easily the most polished gameplay I’ve seen in a Ren’py-style game. Minigames are actually fun instead of feeling like chores, and the town map makes exploring simple but still interesting.


Final thoughts:
Yeah there’s delays, yeah sometimes updates feel small, but for me it’s still the best mix of humor, romance and lewdness out there.

Pre rework is 5/5, story's good, sex scenes galore, plenty to do. The game was basically finished, story even had an ending. They just decided to rework the game because they want more money. Updates are infrequent- about 4-6 months. Little to show for it each time. 1-2 scenes, usually one reworked, one new. Check the changelogs, they're sitting on their hands just collecting paychecks.
