Ren'Py - Summertime Saga [v21.0.0 wip.6705] [Kompas Productions]

Pre rework is 5/5, story's good, sex scenes galore, plenty to do. The game was basically finished, story even had an ending. They just decided to rework the game because they want more money. Updates are infrequent- about 4-6 months. Little to show for it each time. 1-2 scenes, usually one reworked, one new. Check the changelogs, they're sitting on their hands just collecting paychecks.

I'm late to the Summertime Saga wave and man I wish I had given it a go earlier. So good, so well made. Tons of content and I'm not even done yet. I'm playing on the pre-rework version and it's great.

Very confused why they decided to delay development to rework this. The original art is great and the game doesn't really have issues as far as I can tell. The only thing that could be adjusted is the hint log could be better and the quests locking you out of progressing others until you complete them.

Really wish they would just go back to developing the original and bring out more content instead of their current path. Only reason it's not 5 stars for me.

Pre tech updated 5/5 stars after idk just not it. the game was on a very good way but now just stagnated which sucks a lot because i think this game had the potential to become the best game on here. now the game stagnated and the fear of the game getting abandoned is real if you ask me, wish they would go back to the pre tech update version and advance from there

Even though it isnt complete, its still really good. I recommend to install the "stable version" which is the v20.16 for more scenes since the v21.0.0 is wip. The scenes are good, it's not as realistic as some 2dcg like Taiwan love story, princess kaiju, quickie love hotel etc, but still great, the amount of storylines are also satisfying, the only problem may be the audio, there's none in H-scenes.

A perfect 5 stars for me , those characters , those story lines , those dialogues and animation everything is brought together perfectly , it's like all stars are aligned together to create this game . Absolutely loved it excited for future update !!

Feels more like a remake no one asked for than real progress. The game used to be one of the best adult VNs, but now updates are super slow and mostly focused on redoing what already worked. The new art and UI are nice, but there's barely any new content. It feels more like a cash grab than real development at this point.

Yeaaa..... this game is some hot steaming pile of shit. I have never been invested in this game but decided to finally try it out for first time and.....there is legit no content. Right now there is content for 2 women and then the other 3 have between 1-4 scenes. Thats it. After 9 years thats what this game has. I understand that it originally had more but there is no excuse to do a remake this badly or slowly. Actual scammer.

The game has been in development for so long that we're witnessing a full blown remake in the process. The dev has decided to restart the game essentially from the beginning, removing 90% of the content until he adds it back again.

This game at its peak and with the bugs and glitches ironed out would have been an easy 4 stars, maybe even a perfect 5. As it stands now it deserves nothing more than 1.

Def avoid this one. There isn't really anything to do.
A lot of the content has been deleted over the last couple years and currently there isn't any point in playing.

You now start off with unlimited money and most everything unlocked as well as the mini games disabled so there's really no point in playing. I mean it takes the story out of it.

I played it a couple or so years ago and there is way less content now. Nothing really seems to have changed much.

For a game w this many followers and basically unlimited resources I expect loads and loads of new scenes, quests, and characters.

The pre-tech update game is a good game. Strongly recommend anyone give it a go.
The post-tech update game is much higher quality and aimed to be a major overhaul of the entire game, unfortunately that means DarkCookie for some reason decided to rewrite the entire game from scratch and is pretty much moving it forward from square one at a snail's pace. The new content is good too, but for three years of development it's extremely lackluster and disappointing.
Game is still deserving of four stars simply because it's just that good. It's a staple of sorts, and an extremely ambitious one at that. Hopefully there comes a point where everything they've been working on comes to fruition and they start pumping out updates, but that's extremely unlikely.
Really is unclear what they have been doing all this time.

It was good then it went downhill. The game has lost its direction. Instead of adding new content, the author is just revising old content and changing some technical aspects of the game. Very disappointing. The author has seen the success of the game in the beginning and has not tried to branch out or anything. Just the same old thing.

The game is set in "college" but the school is clearly meant to be a high school. The staff is clearly high school teachers, the students are clearly high school students, and the MC is clearly a generic and somewhat ugly high school loser. It'd make more sense to be set in an actual college or university because at least there it's reasonable for students to come and go from campus.

As far as I can tell, there isn't any actual game to play right now. You start with more money than you could ever use and can rewind at any time.

"Art style" is unattractive and frankly bad. It's something you'd expect out of South Park, but there it's a stylistic choice and other substance makes up for visuals.
People in the game are just caricatures of themselves- massive saggy tits, ridiculous clothing, excessive loyalty to a single trait. Each character you interact with seems to have been written after only one sentence of planning; "MILF caretaker with huge saggy tits.," "Stuck-up girl with huge tits," "Pent up rich lady with huge tits," "Nerd girl with huge saggy tits," so on and so forth.

Tried both versions available. The original where it stopped was pretty damn good, lactation content was solid if only that nun was a hucow option, a solid 4 for sure and I can see how the game got big that was quality. The new version though has so much less content after so long, and it's definitely far less sexual content, even ignoring whatever is going on with it's development it's maybe a 2 it just seems barren. Average those to a 3.

before the the rework id have given this a 4 star but this current rework is rubbish developer lacks new story and art and couldn't move forward so he started this rework to keep milking the hell out of this game

For the most part it's an ok porn game when I last played. There isn't anything particularly groundbreaking about it (not that there needs to be.) Nor are the sex scenes particularly titillating. The biggest downside (much like with other media) is the inclusion of real-world individuals and events, which can lead to the content becoming extremely dated and divisive for no good reason. (You can immediately tell how the creator views certain individuals because they have the tact of a brick being thrown through a window.)

Still solid for what it is even though they've just gone back to refreshing the old storylines instead of opting for adding more content or different characters. The kind of game you come back and check in on after a year or two when the mood strikes you.

This was the first +18 game I ever played, and I have a lot of affection for it, despite the poor management by the creator who only updates it whenever he wants. The game is really good, with an interesting story, good mini-games, and great characters.

Summertime Saga was a pioneer when it launched back in 2016, standing out with its unique art and gameplay. It quickly became a huge financial success. However, today, everything about it feels mid-tier — the art, the story, and the gameplay have all been surpassed by newer titles. It seems clear the developer knows this and is just riding the nostalgia wave, continuing to take money from long-time fans. Realistically, it feels like there’s no real intention to finish the game anymore, just to keep it alive enough to sustain the income.

I am honest. For a long time this was my favorite game here... but that was maybe ... 6 years ago?

While I think that the sandbox and world system for Summertime Saga was and is maybe very influencial for a lot of other games on this platform... the whole controversy about the development speed and the literal rewriting of the whole game is a hugh setback for me.

The game has overall a lot of different kinks and a TON of characters to interact with. I also enjoy the artstyle and the overall setting of the game.

Favorite story parts: Story with Jenny, Mia, Grace and my favorite french teacher Ms. Bissette

I hope the game can find back to its development speed from ~2018/19. Will definitly revisite it again after the so called "tech update"

Artwork [4/5]

I love the game's artwork, especially because it's in a 2D cartoon style, unlike most adult games. I just don't think it's perfect, because in my opinion there are some games that are better in this respect.

I think the developers overdid it with the number of characters. They've only increased, update after update.

One of the consequences of this is that characters like Judy, Mia and Rhonda, who have been in the game since the first versions, haven't had their stories deepened until today.

As for the story itself, I'm not a big fan of the main story and some of the routes (side stories) in the game. On the other hand, I really like Roxxy and Eve's routes.

Gameplay [5/5]

Without a doubt, this is the Ren'py base game (if you can call it that, since they've changed the engine over time) with the best minigames and gameplay features I've played.

Final thoughts:

Despite the game being surrounded by controversy and delays, mainly due to technological upgrades, I hope that the game follows its course and reaches a conclusion, as it was the first adult game that I had contact with.
