Wow. I have played my fair share of erotic games and have even read a few great stories outside of erotic fiction. Yet this story in Superhuman is very impressive. Here are my thoughts on the game.
Now, usually when I play a game, I like there to be choices. Do you attack or defend? Do you attack with your tentacles or with your larger size and smash into them? And this game does have that. Some Game Over scenes where depending on if you are powerful enough, you could lose fights. This does help give the game a feeling of danger, despite your regenerating abilities.
Though what hands down this game does well is its characters. Now, for an erotic game, you expect for the women to be the most developed and dynamic of the characters. And that is true. Alice is a great character. You learn her shady backstory with her family. How her mom was an angel while her farther was a devil. (Even her farther was well developed). How she can kill people without remorse but does try to be loving like when she brought you cookies while in prison. Love the part she can’t cook. You can digest a spider and monster parts but Alice’s cookies are what almost made you throw up.
And that was just one amazing character you meet in the story. Then there is Alice and Liz and their complicated relationship with their mother. Also, their farther who plays a role later in the story. All these female characters are surprisingly very believable. Elise and her complicated relationship with Ella. How the goths hanged out and had fun. Showing that Ella can be a bit human and further showing her character as well. Like when they did a goth concert.
All this alone would have given the game four stars but this game went above and beyond with its characters. Michael is a mercenary with a very troubled past and love how over the game, he would reveal more and more of his dark childhood. How he wasn’t one to just spill every secret he had to total strangers. You had to earn that trust to get him to open up and loved it. Made the friendship you build with Michael very believable. Was even great to see him connect with Ellie as a friend when they were talking about fathers who did not meet their expectations.
Also, Deryl is a great character. Starting out as a nerd, was great to see him evolve. How he was able to take a bit of your blood and find out your weakness to electricity. How even without the resources of HERO, he was able to give basic information about your superhuman body. And when he got his own powers, love how it matched his personality. How he was a nerd who knew how the world worked. What the atmosphere is made out of, the walls, the floors. How to manipulate the environment with his power and even bring in ‘seeds’ to help him better prepare for battle. Was so great to see him think. My absolutely favorite moment (in terms of combat) is the battle between Deryl and Michael in the virtual reality. How Deryl faced limits as he only had a few minutes to prepare traps and creations to attack Michael because he knew he would lose a direct fight. Better to take the melee fighter out from a distance than get in close. And Michael did fall for a few traps he laid. Yet Michael was a soldier and thinks like Deryl. Planning an ambush and knowing how to win. He knows that Deryl will try this strategy and jus needs to find him before his traps kill him. And how he finds him makes perfect sense. Deryl stretched for time and so just hid under the only large bush in the forest. Making him a sitting duck to Michael.
Another character I really like is the Shoopkeeper. You never learn his name and I love that. He reminds me so much of ‘The Stranger’ in Resident Evil 4. Just replace “Stranger” for “Charlie” and you have two people who feel like their cousins. And judging by all the little easter eggs littered through the story, maybe that was the intent. Well done. Back to the shopkeeper, how in return for an item you are looking for, he asks you to deliver and item to a client and asks you not to look at it. And if you do, you instantly die. Love that. The Shoopekeeper really feels like a ruthless but honest businessman. How he will never cheat his customers out of what they want but make sure never to cheat him back. Even hoping his power is you cannot violate contracts and agreements with him or you die.
The only character that felt a little flat to me was Bigbro. The brother to Ellie and leader of S.I.N. I just can’t take him seriously. Maybe it is because I am an adult but when I see him dressed in all black, I’m thinking, ‘Are you going through a phase?’ This is not the person who feels like an intelligent threat leading a powerful organization. Such as when he appeared on television, he killed the host in cold blood. Way to show you are the people looking out for Superhumans by murdering a man. Though, if the goal was to make me think this way. That he is a child who had a bit of a rough childhood that did not do a lot of growing up, fantastic job. (There is a part of me that wants to use the transformation powers I have and turn him into a goth bimbo. At least when he’s treating others like toys, he would have a pretty body to look at.)
Now already talked about combat between Deryl and Michael. And for the most part, the battles are GREAT. There is a lot of thought put in here. For example, the MC’s fight against Jake was great. How Jake thought strategically and brought in the entire police force that he could control to fight the MC. How the MC disguised himself as a soldier to trick Jake. I LOVE these moments where they use their powers in creative ways. Yet later in the story also find myself disinterested in some of the fights. For example, in the battle against Ellie’s forces, just skipped through most of the battles because they were on such a large scale that it felt like Dragon Ball Z. Where the fights were won not with clever tactics but by whoever had the strongest power. The teleporting lady especially who can create a portal from the sun and fry anything she wants (I thought her power was limited to locations she has already visited. When did she get to the sun?)
The erotic scenes were great, though. One of my favorites was when you are hunting monsters that is attacking young women, you turn yourself into a woman and then feel your breasts expand as the monster releases a chemical to make females more aroused. Then swallows you whole and has its way with you. Just found that scene so sexy. Another was when Amber and Liz were on the couch and you transformed into the couch and ****ed them while their mother was oblivious. What a cool way to use your powers. And less to do with the scenes but love how in the story, the MC mentions how her body reacts differently than as a man. How sucking dicks does not disgust her and even enjoys it. The male side of her is a pervert but the female side is a slut.
