Incest isn't something I enjoy in games, it's not one of my kinks. There are very few games with incest in them I enjoy.

Personal Trainer I enjoy but not because of the incest in fact the cousin is my least favourite character with regards to the sex. I like the banter between her and the MC but that's about it.

This thread has reminded me why I originally liked incest: the taboo, the fact that it is supposed to be unnatural and kept secret. In general, there are a lot of good rules of thumb about making incest in this thread. It could almost be used as a "mistakes people make" guide.

I was fantasizing an orgy in my game between the MC and his partner, their mothers/step-mothers (I promise being a "step"-mother is important to the plot lol), and the MC's best friend, but why dafuq would the MC's best friend just randomly be down with an incest orgy?

Maybe it's not the majority, but I think the proliferation of incest themes in porn has dulled my senses towards it. I find it hard to figure out what I even like about it anymore. I guess it just adds a bit more color to the relationship? Idk.

I think that, in part, incest is frequently portrayed in games because:
1. It's a very convenient setup for a main character to be in close proximity to several attractive women without already being in a sexual relationship with them(i.e. he lives with his mother and sisters and aunt and grandmother and whomever else)
2. The incest angle comes with a diversity of ages and body types to stimulate the interest of players
3. Seducing a family member is inherently more challenging than seducing a single unattached female to whom one is unrelated , thus from a game standpoint is more "viable" as a setup
So, as a package, it's an easy setup--the MC lives with his family, they are diverse in age, personality and body type, and the taboo nature is both hot and challenging in terms of the seductive difficulty.
You can have the MC work with teachers at his school or work with nuns at a convent where he does housecleaning or fixes their computers or somesuch.m, or he could be a salesman or technician visiting married housewives.
But the family fuckfest is one of the easiest game setups you can do. It combines an easy reason for the character to be with and around the women in the game, a reason for the women to vary in age, personality and body type, and a reason why seduction is not such a straightforward proposition(with the taboo being the spice in the mix).

A final element, I'd say, is that a lot of players can relate back to the days when they were horny teenagers and inappropriate thoughts of one sort or another drifted through their brains. Including occasional thoughts about family members. So it's a semi-relatable scenario where the players could conceivably identify with the MC vicariously.

I like, play and now even develop an incest game just because I like the genre, I really don't pay to much attention to how easy to set up that situation was or how convenient things were in order for they to end together.

For example, in this forum you have A Town Uncovered (I highly recommend it) were things are really messed up, the mother in this game push the MC to get a job, then she ask him to spend all the afternoon with her (so if you go to school in the morning and the store is closed at night, the logical would be to work in the afternoon) and then if you miss one single afternoon with mom, she will fuck the husband in the living pretty much in your face and the fathers IS A DICK (the worst father I ever see in this site) and she actually tells you that he is a real man (he is an abusive asshole and he even hit her after that scene) and way better than the MC. Waay after that everything has a "happy ending" but nothing until that point was easy or convenient at all. The game is TOTALLY worth it.

The appeal of incest(atleast for me) is the breaking of taboo.
The convincing of others to do what is considered wrong.
It is also the main reason i get bored with porn games once i have succesed.

A negative side effect of incest being expected and even demanded in porn games, is, that no developer would include any non-incestuous family members in an adult game any more. Personally I think, a lezdom game with the submissive woman's protective son as an antagonist would be interesting. But I know very well, this wont come to be, because if a porn game has a mom and son in it, they are bound to fuck. Other people may like games where a girls parents try to keep the MC away from their daughter. Normal family members could add to a plot, but as soon, as one reads mother or sister, he expects incest and the developers usually don't want to disappoint the players' expectations.

How many guys have a 'mommy fetish'? Probably a lot but not a lot of girlfriends with the want and/or temperament for it.
My theory why incest is such a big genre is because there are a lot of guys, brought up in broken homes, who never got the love they wanted and needed as a child and so it has manifested sexually. Those same guys can't get a girlfriend to roleplay the 'mommy' kink, so their only outlet is porn, whether it be videos or games or erotica.

So Here is my problems with specific Incest games:-

1) The Taboo is The Main reason for the incest game, for me without that I can not play it.
Some games just underplays it way to much.
Games that everyone else likes like Sister, sister, Sister, I could not get into. There is no challenge, or taboo. You see your sister/mom and immediately starts to lust for her for no reason. You flirt with no consequence, they immediately returns your affection. A new Home was another one...I could not get into it.

2) The MC is a creep.
Unfortunately that is most incest games. DMD is the worst offender. Big Brother as well.
I still liked the games, but especially the dad in DMD...he is pretty creepy.
Max is creepy, but I see him as more opportunistic. He is horny, and his sisters and mom is hot.

3) The Incest supporting friend. I love SL, but James fucking his sister was not my thing. Same with Bacon. Dreams of Desires was the same, although I did not fancy the friend's mom.

Here are some good Incest games done right.

1) Haley's story. This is perfect in terms of incest genre. The taboo, the tease, the buildup in this one is fantastic.

2) No more secrets. This was also done well, where the MC did not know his sister/mother and he starts of being morally compromised.

3) Light of My Live also very good. The premise is based on a tragedy in the family with no one really coping. Insecurity and guilt drives the story forward.

4) Bates Hotel also works, as the MC are heavily suggested to be a psychopath.

5) Where the female is the aggressor. Only 2 that I have played so far, and possible the best incest games for me .
Haley's Story and I love Daddy

The typical incest games works as there are normally a younger sister that have a crush on you.
An older sister that hates you and a mom that loves you, but not sexually.
So you grow sexually with younger sister with her exploring her sexuality.
Your older sister becomes a challenge to overcome. Conquest. (This is normally my favorite character)
The mom is the pure taboo, that works on the level that a mom loves her son unconditional and most teenage boys are basically sexually aroused by anything that moves with a pair of tits on. The younger the son, the more easily aroused.
The fact that he can not get any, makes the possibility that he hits on his family very plausible.

I'm in the process of learning to make games to do a story of twin sisters travelling. One is a lesbian the other is straight and they will never have sex. There's nothing unique about adult game incest, nor is there meant to be in 99% of all cases.
It's just an easy way to put the MC in a location with 3 love interests to cover some of your bases (usually busty MILF, innocent teen and bitchy or sporty teen).

I'm honestly surprised people are still arguing about it since it's basically the vanilla setting for 3D renpy games at this point.
