VN - Ren'Py - The Assistant [Ch.3.1] [Backhole]

I previously left a very harsh review on the other game this developer presented. I'm quite convinced of my reasons why. The dev didn't agree at all.

Yet i must say i'm very positively impressed on how much his work improved in this one title. It's not perfect, there is something short of convincing, at least to me, in the overall plot and interactions, but still it's a decent, enjoyable story, the characters and the LIs are enticing both as phisical aspect and characterization, you have plenty of agency during the gameplay and it makes you want to keep playing. Not to mention, everything, this time, is very well cared.

We hare lightyears ahead of Denos City, and sure the Dev treasured his previous experience.

This time my sincere compliments.

This VN is pretty meh.

Renders is pretty low-quality and the dialogues feels almost robotic.
Sometimes dialogue windows will be empty due to a bug or something, sometimes it'll be in spanish.

My biggest issue is with the story itself, which i will clarify in the spoiler below.

It's a really good game, well done, but I didn't get too hooked. sometimes thinking about the character(s) weighed down the narration and the behavior of the mc is particular... We can't create complex characters and it's their number that makes the story interesting, but the mc is not complex, he has very different behavior depending on the girls, can hardly be justified. the girls besides are superb and original, that's the strength of the game, its strong point and after all that's what we ask from a game of this type ^^ it's rare that I skip the dialogues but sometimes here I have done it, I admit, but very few times. I had time to see that certain sex scenes happened a little quickly while others took a while. But ! we don't let go of the game, he manages to keep us going, we don't really know how, but we do it until the end, and that's a sign of quality. the competition is tough, but this one has all the qualities you can look for, so don't hesitate!

Just finished playing through day 11.

Like most games on this site, at first it started out shaky, finding its own legs. By around day 5ish, it really starts to come together and take off, boasting a boost in story writing and game direction. Models are pleasing, although several models that belong in the same immediate family have widely varying skin tones, which i found to be quite odd, but not a deal breaker. The animations are so-so, nothing really special.
The game tries to touch on various fetishes like femdom and maledom, but the content for both is pretty shallow and uninteresting. Thankfully for some of the more disgusting choices you can choose not to see them.
The story starts off kind of lackluster but later picks up and is now fairly interesting.
The Good/Bad point system though is where the game really breaks down. As far as i can tell, it only affects certain scenes, and knowing how it will affect anything (even with the little point increase hints) is a guess at best.
It also seems pointless overall as it leaves it to individual critical choices as to branch splitting. For example if you choose NOT to take advantage of the situation where you confront Lisa about watching you and Sarah together, She will (angrily) remain on the sidelines and not join your BDSM club and pout about not being included. As with Sarah, for her best outcome you must choose to be Bad (bad point options) to bring her under control...

4/5 from me, drop the good/bad point system (branching is fine), and improve your animations and scenes, keep up the good story, and its a winner.

Started out really good, but when reading and seeing the new renders all expectations and interest of this game was gone.

Average story, quite vanilla bad guy want something and mc needs to step up and resolve all problems. Nice that the prot/MC was not a badass from the beginning.
A bit to fast paced for my liking but not bad.
Everyone seemed to just throw the selves at the MC a bit to quick.
Like the choices to able to actually not engage or perv out on the ladies in the game.
Renders was okay but the change just killed my interest in the game.

I'm someone not liking change, I would never spend money on a game on steam where the graphics are non consistent or the characters in the game changed from chapter 1 to 4th chapter. I know that's not a fair assessment and the final product will not have changed characters but for me they have changed and that is just not interesting anymore.
There are way to many games here that will not change halfway in that I can play.

Good luck to the creators, still not buying the age reason to change the whole game.

Renders: probably a 3.5/5. Kind of grainy at the start but they certainly improve but they don't stand out.

Story: again probably a 3.5/5. It is serviceable and interesting enough to keep you focused in between the sex scenes.

What a fun game with such a diverse cast!

Normally having this many LI's would make each one feel shallow but here each one fills their niche pretty well.

Something about Sarah (pigtails) has her as one of the hottest LI's in any VN i've played. It;s hard for authors to toy the line of a girl looking youthful without either being a loli or like one of those TV shows were a 30 year is playing an 18 year old college student. Sarah looks beautiful and young and her corruption feels less corrupt and more like a girl just discovering her sexuality which felt unique compared to many other games.

The MC can seduce the girls or be a bit of a bastard but the cast is wonderful and wide enough you'll for sure find what you're looking for in this game.

The renders are really hot, and the story doesn't try to take itself too seriously, which happens in a lot of games here. Really nice grammar which is kind of uncommon.
So far it's completely worth playing

Very good game if you like dominant MC and a lot of sub girls to play with. Story is not bad for porn game. Renders could be improved but still pretty good. Overall i would say its one of a better porn games around here.

One of the worst games I ever encountered and competition is though... You play as "adult" with "brain" of teen on puberty hormone rampage... Add to that bad and incoherent writing and that's recipe for disaster, disaster named "The Assistant". For example, there is option for MC to say to some chick that he "loves" her, and literally next thing he does is banging some random cuguar behind her back (unavoidable). Yeah, true definition of love.
There are lot of fake choices and unavoidable sex scenes, which makes this game even worse.
Only good aspects are some of the models, which are indeed nice, and visuals in general, but that can't even remotely make this playable, at least for me.
Definitely would not recommend to others.

TLDR - A lot of scene's. Good for a quick fap. But dull writing.

In the past I might have given this a 5 star, but standards of nsfw games keep going up so it's a 4/5. It's good but has flaws.

what is gets right:

• Good renders and scenes. (a lot of scene's).
• Good optimization (no buffering or bugs).

what it gets wrong:

• The dialog. is. boring. To start it follows the ancient old formula. Introduction to new character > Look at cleavage or butt > Get caught > Lady feels flattered > Says "It's nice to meet you" (I didn't count but, this happened like 5 times in a row and all of them said "nice to meet you" after you stare at them.
• I mentally switched off because of how dull the dialog was. Then comes the second problem. There are so many characters and I guess there is some development. But because there are so many you just go back and forth, back and forth, oh who's this now? Oh right, do I need to know this for the "story"? I guess not because I skipped all the dialog but I still get the gist of the story.

Thinking about it, there in is the core of my complaint. If this was sandbox game where you're just randomly going around doing short stories with scene's. I'd probably think this game is incredible.

But it is a VN, and it's actually trying to tell a story. I just have to conclude that the story is lacking. If I can skip through the majority of the dialog and still follow what's going on, then none of the writing really mattered.

I'm going to keep going with the simple reviews:

This game is straight up high-quality pornography. There is some alleged story going on with the Catholic Church, but I couldn't be bothered on this one... at least the story and writing don't distract from the main focus here.

Extremely high-quality stills and animations paired to really hot situations, nothing too perverted (that isn't skippable), light-to-medium fetish appeal, and, most importantly, really, really solid pacing.

There is a little something for everyone here: old, young, family, corruption, perversion, religion. No NTR yet that I'm aware of, so that crowd might not be too interested. While this definitely does not enter the "art tier", it doesn't aspire to; what it is going for it accomplishes with flying colors, this is an easy, easy wank/10... maybe even a wank-wank/10.

This is one of the not many games that get me hard every time. It is sexy as hell.

The story is OK, but that's not the main point.
The main point are the models so gorgeous and so eclectic.:
- the innocent teens on a path of sexual debauchery
- the innocent looking but deeply perverted teen
- the none getting hornier and hornier
- the friend's daughter in love and lust
- the friend in dire need of 'sexual healing'
- the gorgeous model
- the horny student
- and the hot milfs.
The lewd animations are explicit and abundant.

I was reluctant to write about this game, because there are so many other reviews yet I liked it a lot and had to.

This game was okay. The plot is kinda strange with the Russian mafia ties. Also, as people said, it's Spanish to English so sometimes the translations mess up. The models are okay and the amination was decent. I'd give it a 3 or 4 if not for the fact that the writing overall was a miss for me because it felt like it wanted to tackle subjects and did a poor job of it.

For example, I think this game did a bad job of exploring female sexuality and empowerment. One thing that confused me, was the parts where Beatriz tries to make Iris more confident sexually. Instead of hearing her out, Beatriz cuts Iris off and insists that Iris is wrong for feeling uncomfortable in a lingerie/ sex toy shop. Like you want her to be confident in herself but you force her to ignore her feelings?

Beatriz herself owns a lingerie business so there's a monetary incentive for her to convince Iris to explore and buy those products. The scenes as a whole, therefore, feel forced and pretentious. Almost like the author is trying very hard to mask this game's overt male-centric themes with ideas of female sexual empowerment and sexual wokeness. Women can certainly be confident in not only their own skin but also their sexuality while ALSO being uncomfortable being in a sex shop. It's not for everyone.

But of course, Iris started to feel magically comfortable with sex and lingerie shops because of the plot. Not because she herself took the time to explore it for herself, but because Beatriz (the author by proxy) told her how to feel. So that the end goal is for Iris to be sexually open so that the MC can have his way with her. Which undermines the entire thing. Like if you want a character to become sexually open, don't pretend it's because of female empowerment when it's actually so that she can be part of the MC's harem LOL.

And two minor notes are that Iris is the "prude" character, but her model wears booty shorts, and Beatriz is supposed to be the "sexually mature" character, but she blows the MC while he's sleeping, without his consent (and without any prior sexual interaction besides looking on both their parts). You can't have it both ways author... it just comes off as lazy. Beatriz in this sense talking about female empowerment is like Bill Cosby giving advice on dating.

And before anyone blows a gasket, I'm not saying games cant explore the theme of women finding their sexuality and or being more comfortable in their own skin. I'm saying I think THIS game did a bad job of it. I'll give some good examples.

If you like the idea of a modern spin on this concept, try the game called 'Confusion'. I recently gave that game a 5-star rating because it tackles trans rights and issues in a very mature, nonpreachy/woke manner. The only downside is that the bully in that game is even more 1 dimensional than the characters in this game.

Another example is in a game called Artemis (fucking fantastic game), where the MC himself explores a sex shop (in order to buy a dildo for his best friend who happens to be a lady... who is also one of the funniest characters in any VN I've played) and learns new things about female sexuality. Not once did it feel like a lecture to the audience or another character, and it was also very funny at times.

My favorite example of this concept DONE RIGHT, is the Deluca Family, (one of the best-written games on this site, imo) in which one of the main girls (Gracie) has trouble making friends and being sexually open and the MC helps her with both. Not by lecturing her (and by proxy the viewer) but instead by just helping her. Unlike the characters in this game, Gracie feels like a well-rounded character with various likes and wants (it becomes clear that she's a tactical genius) and her sexuality is just another character trait AMONG MANY, instead of a defining feature, like with characters in this game. In that sense, Gracie is a much better example of how to write about female empowerment. Don't lecture. Have the character exude it. That's the reason why Luna (another character from The Deluca Family) is my pfp. She EXUDES female empowerment and it doesn't ever come off as preachy. Luna is a BOSS, "I have my gun, and I have icecream~".

And speaking of "exuding", the author also does what the anime Naruto used to do where the characters or narrator SAY that a character is something instead of the audience coming to that conclusion themselves. On multiple occasions, the MC will explain what a girl is, "she's a slutty little minx", or the author himself will explain how Beatriz is confident, whereas, in games like the Deluca Family, the VIEWER is the one that will go, "holy shit, Gracie is smart as hell!"

Some people in the comments have said that this is a good porn game, and not to think too much about the writing. Those people are correct.

I enjoy playing the dev's previous work Denos City but this one exceeds my expectation. I initially thought the current version of The Assistant might only have 2-3 hours of gameplay, yet I'm glad I'm wrong because the game has insane amount of contents, most of which are enjoyable to play.
Story: 3/5. If you've played Denos City before, you can see a lot of similarities between this and The Assistant: the mobster/conspiracy theme, MC assuming the place of an assistant of a wealthy large family... It sounds generic af, but the dialogues between characters greatly mitigate any boredom you might feel when reading the story, so it doesn't bother me really much.
Character: 5/5. The variety of female character/LIs is the highlight of The Assistant. Each LI has her own personality so it doesn't feel too stiff, and what's more impressive is that every main LI has 2-3 routes to choose depending on your preference: you can be a loving companion (Good Guy) or you can be a jerk who tends to take advantage of women (Bad Guy). Even though I tend to play wholesome routes/contents, it's good to see some AVNs like The Assistant that provide multiple character routes to players' liking.
Animation/scene: 4.5/5. there's a huge step forward the dev's previous work in terms of scene variety and animation. Because of multiple routes for every main LI, you got to see an insane amount of lewd scenes depending on your choice (you can also see them all in the gallery), and the animation in these scenes are very smooth and natural.
Cons: I did have some complaints toward this game. Clearly the original/main language of The Assistant is Spanish, but the "separation" between English and Spanish isn't done properly as you can still see a few of random Spanish sentences when you play it in English. Also, I don't know if it's the problem of the walkthrough mod or the game itself, but there're some dialogue choices don't make sense in terms of character points. For instance, I've encountered at least two choices that are supposed to be related to one LI since you're talking to her, but instead they add the character points of another LI who is completely unrelated to the dialogue, which is really confusing.
Overall, for anyone who enjoys harem contents and the variety of character paths, The Assistant is a must play for you.

Brilliant stuff. Even has cunny characters, not quite loli level but still close enough. Marvelous indeed. You have sister stuff niece stuff, ass stuff all kinds of great things going on. The story itself is something about evil guy wanting to build luxury houses by demolishing an old building classic trope you know nothing special. But yeah its a good game.

Some women dont look as good as others, the character models and skins look "old" or outdated by modern standards when compared to other popular titles. But again it just works.

But if I did have one complaint it would be that there really isnt any day to day slice of life fun stuff, just things you must do in order to solve a problem for the ladies or in order to get in to their privates. Nothing like "hey lets go bowling" and hilarity ensues. Doesnt occur. But its fine regardless its not a slice of life ok fine i accept it.

'The Assistant' is a AVN about a man his his 30s that gets a job as a general assistant to a wealthy family, soon enough he finds himself involved with criminals and fucking every single female he meets while repeatedly having to choose between being a good or a bad guy, these choices unfortunately are meaningless and only results in very minor dialogue changes most of the time.

Let's get the visuals out of the way - the girls are beautiful (but often very familiar to other VNs), most of them are slim with above average chest size (with one of them being a bit more thick, and one of them somewhat flat) so not much variety there.
Overall LI's looks pretty good, but MC's face is a little weird, one thing I liked is that his face does look like he's in his late 30's, good on the dev to not be afraid to add some texture.
The animations are pretty great, pretty high FPS, smooth, and good looking.

The writing is unfortunately pretty subpar.
The MC has a serious thing towards young girls, but as soon as he meets an older (~40 probably?) LI he claims that he loves MILFs too.
His resume is unimpressive but easily wins the job in about 3 sentences after multiple other people weren't good enough to get it.
This VN is plagued with the dreaded, awful, immersion breaking internal monologues, at some points characters spend more time talking to themselves than other people.
Its a tool that is used over and over again, telling instead of showing MC's plans towards LI's, how said LI's are aroused, and how MC deals with moral conflicts.
It's a useful tool, but VERY overused here, which draws attention to the dev lack of experience with showing characters feelings, or revealing information and thoughts through natural interactions instead of spitting them out as internal monologue.
That, in addition to English clearly not being the dev's first language breaks immersion over and over again, makes interactions feel unnatural and takes away from the experience.

LI's are very flat character-wise, with specific kinks and cliche characteristics are thrown in, a young innocent submissive girl, the cheating MILF, a nun being corrupted, etc. there's no character growth or depth to their personalities and overall they are pretty forgettable.

***spoilers about the plot***
The general plot is unfocused, unrealistic and not very interesting, a crime lord making young girls into hookers, about to sell a new drug that is an extremely strong aphrodisiac, he's also into real estate so he tries to demolish a church/school for poor kids to build luxurious housing instead of them, meanwhile his drugs gets stolen by the idiot son of the milf the MC is fucking, his friends sister is one of the hookers of said crime lord, and he (crime lord) was an altar boy in the church whos about to be demolished, in which the sister of the woman who hired you works as a nun.
Honestly it's kind of a mess, but I appreciate the dev for trying to write an actual story instead of just lazily going 'slice of life' with no substance.

The sex is pretty good, plenty of kinks (anal, fucking a girl while her husband is in the other room, water sports, submission, rimming, etc), all of them but one instance of fucking a girl that's cheating on her husband are clearly presented and avoidable which I really appreciated.
The scenes are hot, and while I would like them to be a bit longer, the are on the longer side of things when it comes to projects in this size, so that's great.

Overall 'The Assistant' feels pretty average, it does some things like animations and sex scenes pretty well, while being pretty subpar when it comes to writing, which is serviceable but very flawed in multiple ways.
If you're looking for good writing, deep, interesting characters or an amazing plot - look elsewhere, otherwise, 'The Assistant' can be a pretty fun experience that I can recommend, it's just nothing to write home about.
I'm glad I gave it a try and will probably check back in a year or so.

From start to now , it is very refreshing and comfortable to play .
Extremely characteristic sex scenes and a wide variety of horny women .
But there's a little problem , I still don't understand what kind of main story the author is trying to build .
Even though many of the most iconic erotic games don't need a story at all .
