Ren'Py - The College [v0.54.1] [Deva Games]

Deserves better rating then what it has.

It's a fun game, with potential to become better. Scenes are alright, and same with setting.

Biggest weakness at this time: Feels grindy and time consuming at times/scenes can be challenging to get. Some of the actions/clicks done to get certain things could be reduced a little bit (feels clunky).

Aside from that, I still think this games is hovering between 3.4 to 4 star range.

The College needs polish everywhere pretty much. grammar. frames. scenes. menus. models. writing. the idea is good just poorly executed sadly. Some of the models are fine, but others have weirdly proportionate shapes.

I'm not a huge fan of sandbox games, but there are a few that I have really enjoyed. "The College" is NOT one of them.

The main problem with this game is the "rewards" are way too small for the amount of tedious grinding required. Maybe this is appreciated in some non-western cultures or by some adolescents that shouldn't even be playing the game, but the content this game offers does not justify the amount of time spent.

Then players have to deal with an MC that's both a complete idiot and scared of his own shadow, so when players finally grind enough to get some new content, they cringe. It's almost like the developer is trying to see how many players he can make into fools.

This game has been in development way to loo long to have so little actual content and such an abysmal hint system. The developer needs to play some sandbox games that actually have decent overall ratings and take some notes.

I'm deleting the game. It's barely a step above garbage, now, and I don't plan to keep playing new updates as it devolves into actual garbage.

There are gamebreaking bugs that aren't patched for an extremely long time, so progress is stonewalled. There is a ridiculous amount of grinding for very minimal rewards. Overall, this game is just a horrible experience with little potential. Would be salvagable without the bugs, because it would at least be playable

Average grind and get stats gameplay. some of the scenes are nice and repeatable worth the grind, while others are of no worth grind. The Hint system could a little more work, some are easy to understand while others you just scratch your head at.

I am finding this game to be a bit on the grindy side, and could do with a better hints system or walkthrough.
Its still worth 3 stars though.
The art work is good, and the story is keeping my interest.
I don't understand anyone giving this game only 1 star, its worth more than that.

0.28 Version

I am typically very forgiving of in development titles because the developer still hasn't had the opportunity to realize their full vision for the game. I wish it were possible to say that is the only thing wrong with this game, but after spending many hours attempting to play this game as well as reading through the forums on it trying to find fixes for the various bugs I kept encountering, it's obvious this problem runs far deeper.

The game is designed to be a grind, often with events requiring multiple times of repeating them over the course of a week or more before it triggers. With the exact same scenes playing out until then, it also feels like a grind. At any time you may enter an area that is bugged meaning you have to start back at your last save or worse.

I say worse because their save system is unreliable. Frequently the save file will lock up and instead you have to start over completely. Obviously this then plays into my previous paragraph's observation about the game play. Coupled with the limited LI scenes and the poorly translated text, it's simply a train wreck.

Is the game beyond salvage? No, of course not. However it would require essentially a complete rebuild on a different engine and the developer getting assistance on the English translation. Still, even with all that it would be little different than a dozen other mediocre games.

TL;DR - There are plenty of better titles to try out. Don't make the mistake of wasting your time with this one.

My review of "The College [v0.28]"

So I just tried out this game and the intro was hilarious - as expected.

Then the sandbox mode started...
Going to the same classes with the same repeating text every day and creeping on MC's sister every night (who else?).
On the weekend I thought I'd visit the psychiatrist and other characters, but the school is completely empty... so I just had to spam the study event 10 times in a row.
Then on Monday I skipped a course and randomly managed to catch the psychiatrist, telling me the times when she is available... but at that time I had already lost interest in continuing because the sandbox mode is extremely boring and there was zero story progression all week.

Overall really bad. The story does have potential but it's unlikely I'll touch this game again unless it gets turned into a VN with actual story progression and no mindless boring grind.

game is broken. has been for the last few updates. opens at the bopttom of the screen but can click and open the window so completely unplayable. seen others with the same issue and never a reply from the creator so its safe to say they have no clue why its broken

events seem completely random and very difficult to trigger also more than once the game has frozen on me and there is nothing I can do to fix it because it doesn't give me an error or stop responding. There is no rollback and unless you save after every action there is nothing to be done except start over. You can do "achivements" out of order which doesn't make sense. This would be so much better as just a vn and gut the sandbox model and map. Just move the mc to whatever location and just tell a good story. This seems like it has some potential as a vn, but as a sandbox game it's all thumbs down. It's a colossal waste of time with minimal benefit or gain and all the male teachers are already banging the students and MC gets little to nothing. Not into being a cuck or watching other males get lewd with MC's love interests. Maybe some brave dev will redo this as a vn instead of a game.... doubt it since it's not finished yet but we can always hope.

I've played games with great characters also i experienced different gameplays - just saying this game is hard to take in. MC is getting raped by a bunch of weak girls and is doing nothing than surrender. After that you need to take ballet class to improve stats with girls (how uncool). Same goes for other triggers which just seem weird..
In addition you get a non-intuitive interface and intolerable loud music (no way to tune it down).
Only positive thing are the decent renders, but even that's not uncommon nowadays.
Honestly, this could have been a really good game, but you are forced to play as a whiny, dumb and helpless main character.
On top of that all, you get a helpless hint-system and a game which crashes and shows a lot of bugs.
If you can live with all the above mentioned, you also might be able to deal with the horrible grind.
In sum, i can't - that's why i can only give 1 star so far. (just for decent renders i also can go watch some porn). About the game(play) there is nothing good to say imho.

Maybe i've been spoiled by games with great characters or gameplay (or both), but this one is just a hard pass... to have male MC who gets raped and his solution is to start doing three ballet classes per week just isn't my cup of tea. And i would boldly assume that neither is for most people.

Between the clunky interface and the intolerably loud music you can't turn down, this game is impossible to play. It has decent renders, but unless you're ready to start using hearing aids after playing the game, don't bother.

This could be a good game. If you can live with a whiny gnome as protagonist. Or a completely disfunctional hint-system.

The real problems start after you have acquired a taste: Freezes, crashes, bugs, vanishing content. I estimate that I can't continue about one third of the grindy content for technical problems.

Visually this game has hope but the engine kills this game.

There is a very good reason why Renpy makes up probably 90% of the VN games out on the market. The game feels incredibly slow and clunky with character poses during dialog taking two to three seconds to gently fade from one pose to another.

With that as a base line for game speed and reports of extreme grind this game just isn't worth testing my patience waiting for the sloth like dialog to work itself out before I can get back to figuring out what I need to do next.

I had to replay for an aproximate anmount of 2 to 3 hours due to bugs in quests. The game is so grindy that you go to visit a friend to give you advice, which is an action that takes 2 hours in the game, and the guy speaks 1 single sentence to you.

Being so grindy, all the countless messages of increased stats that take like 10 seconds each, are a fucking pain in the ass.

This MC is very brave and straight forward when he is perving and has 0 chance of having real interactions, but when he actually has a chance cause someone wants to do something to/or with him, he acts like a small scared kid who is about to get an enema, or a cat that is thrown into the water. Its a shit game mechanic to stall progress and condemn you to eternal peeping tom shit.

Devs should seriously get new vaginas, cause the "she has a nice pussy" when every pussy is the same eventually may get old. Im tired already.

There is one scene in this gamae that is worthy, which is Amelie in the island, and is decent and makes sense. The rest of the writing and scripting is bullcrap. This game should not see the light of day for the next 3 years.

There are a couple of worthy scenes, so the dev, or some of them knows how to do it. I wish their efforst were that consistant throughout the whole game.

I used cheats in the second playthrough but i was seeing right from the startt some "continues in next versions" messages, and i thought i had broken the game progression or something, So I started again without cheats and I saw those messages anyway.

Story is not remarkable, renders are average, grind is insane and actual content is 0 in comparison. There are quite a number of events, but some events happen in a flash, i dont know why devs keep doing that thing of calling event to something that is at most, a transition.
Bullshit game all around. Asi said, it needs time, and a couple of miracles.

- early hot sex scene
the Bad:
-after the first sex scene, insane grinding without tangible results - just teasing ( if you expect any action from the roommate you will be very disappointed)
the Ugly:
the MC reminds me the Aerosmith song "dude looks like a lady"

Save yourself the hassle of deleting this game of "meh" renders, shitty engine, and fuck ugly MC by not downloading it in the first place.

Consider this a 0 star review, I get a more enjoyable fap experience playing minesweeper!

A cast of very bangable characters, grindy as fuck but some of us don't mind putting a bit of work in to learn movement schedules. I'm definitely interested in the story and world beyond the school, and see a big potential assuming this product gets completed.

I think the other reviewers here are being unfairly harsh, whist I agree to an extent with a lot of the points they make the game can definitely still be enjoyed, there's plenty of visual novels out there where you can just brainlessly click until you cum, this one requires a bit more, take that into consideration before you download.

My main criticism is quite in line with what others have already said, the main character is unlikable.
