VN - Ren'Py - The Cure for Madness [Ch.8] [GrumpyGranny]

The first time watching a novel, where the first 5 chapters impressed me more in regard to technology than the later 3 ones, means this one up to chapter 8. Characters and animation is done well so. Means I finished both parts of the novel.

beautiful alice beautiful body successful character! but this creator totally uninspired in the sex scenes ....films from closed angles to cover the character and nothing is understood ... basically where is the climax point i.e. the sex scenes ruin everything it disadvantages alice too. in the close-ups with her face excellent! but this creator like many others should work more on sex scenes well filmed with AI positive angles with the characters! in the last oral sex scene in chapter 8 he practically films it from behind and a side angle so you can only see the hair and a little bit of the face .... very bad! note 1! this update is very bad and very little! not worth paying for! you have advanced technology I recommend you to really create something because that's how you have been for a few years!!! it applies to all creators! I closed all the accounts with creators that I used to pay for! not worth it!

This game deserves 5 stars in my mind, I don't think it's popular enough for how good it is, but it's also understandable as the development of it has been slow.
The story is very intriguing and the FMC is one of the best I've seen, she makes me wanna keep playing. I'm glad the dev listened to feedback and fixed the forced threesome scene with Leon, that was my only complaint about the game and it no longer is. Props to the dev.
I hope this game garners more traction, it is worthwhile.

I was really hoping to like this game but with forced sex scenes and your choices not making a difference it really is just a kinetic novel. I understand in some of these games the "choices" don't really do much but in many others when you make a choice you either have dialog that makes sense for that choice, the choice will have consequences later in the story or actually branching for LIs.

Graphics: Good
Story: While there is a story, at times it seems the dialog doesn't seem to change in tone to have the impact as it should.
Choices: No impact on the game and very little impact on dialog or MC feelings/actions. This is more of a kinetic novel.

1. The MC spends the majority of the game hating Leon for being a dick perv, which he is, to just ending up having a forced threesome with David in Chapter 8?

2. Leon mentions that the MC gave him a blowjob to justify him being involved with the threesome, unless I missed something or it happened in the past, this never happens during my play through. I checked the variables and ch4_leon_bj is false.

3. During my play through the MC avoided having any sex with David apart from the forced scenes but was eager to have a threesome with him and a guy she absolutely hates (during my playthrough at least).

Does that look like someone the MC would have sex with all of a sudden? This is why forced sex scenes just suck, they completely ignore the variables (choices you make while playing) the dev has in place. The dev should either rework parts of chapter 8 so varialbes matter.

4. The tags need reviewing, there is no male protagonist, I don't recall making a single choice for David in 8 chapters. I'd also say I think the rape tag could be added since the MC tells Leon during the forced threesome to NOT have sex with her just for him a few minutes later saying he can't take it anymore and just fucks her. Any inner thoughts the MC has makes little sense considering the playthrough.

5. Since this game is subject to forced scenes, I'm going to bet that when the MC speaks with David's father about him having sex with Jenny we'll be subject to another forced sex scene.

6. The dialog between the MC and David in the diner after the threesome whether to do it again doesn't make much sense. First the MC should be pissed, David never talked to her about having a threesome before it happened, especially one with Leon, who she hates (in my playthrough). However, they just talk like it's no big deal with David casually asking if she wants to do it again. The choices presented to the MC are "Yes" and "Let's Stop This", if you choose "Let's Stop This" the MC states "When I was with him, I liked it, Dave". I mean what the actual hell. Then she proceeds to tell David if he wants to keep experimenting let's do it with someone else, so the MC is at the mercy of David to have a threesome whenever he thinks the opportunity arises (again no choice)? I'm not sure the dev understands what "Let's Stop This" means. The "choices", if you want to call it that, should be "Yes, continue with Leon", "Yes, but with someone else" or "No, I don't want to do this again" with the latter shutting down any further threesomes with David.

7. The MC rightfully mourns Emily's death (her best friend as the MC states), however, while the others indicate how it's a sad incident they show very little empathy. Because of this alone the MC should be looking at the others with more indifference and/or anger. While the MC's priority is to help her brother, again the others just brush it to the side, with the exception of David at times. Because of this her attitude (dialog) should reflect this rather than her just being rolled over since she is constantly being told how she's the best Sensor they have. I rarely to never feel the importance of her position by the MC's dialog and actions and how the others treat her.

8. I get the MC needs the group to help with her brother, as much as they need her, but when Bacchus takes an aggressive approach several times with the MC, she should be pushing back rather than just rolling over and taking it. There is no doubt in my mind this MC is weak minded and easily manipulated.

Overall I can only give this game 2 stars due to what seems any choice you make, especially from chapters 6-8, have little to no impact on the story or actions of the MC. I know a few points seem to repeat itself but I broke it up for easier reading.

TL;DR = really good mysterious detective drama story with some horror themes.

Pros:
+ Story follows this young and hot heroine which investigates disappearance of some character. There are a lot of twists and bumbs along the way.
+ I really like the story here.
+ Another great thing about story is the fact, that heroine has to deal with harrasment from the story characters. Heroine is on the fence, whether she should keep being professional or if she should flirt with males or females to make her progress easier.
+ Apart from detective main plot you will see some relationship subplots. Heroine is hot and she is surrounded with horny males (or females). You can decide how much she will get involved with them. Basically you have 3 choices:
1.) Heroine can be faithfull to her boyfriend.
2.) She can be cheating slut.
3.) Or she can enjoy "sharing" with her boyfriend.
Cons:
- Only downside of the game is slow burn progress. But if you dont mind, then it is okay.

Art and Sex stuff: 4/5
Pros:
+ Renders are good.
+ Heroine is very hot.
+ Sex scenes are good.
+ Game has sex animations. They are good.

- Sadly the amount of sex scenes is really low.

Pros:
+ This is typical VN with choices.
+ Choices have big impact on gameplay.
+ Choices decide whether heroine overcomes obstacles with her abilities or with her sexy charm. Choices also affect hidden stats, that will decide what sex scenes will heroine encounter. They also influence her relationship with her fianceé.
+ English is decent.
+ Game has soundtrack. It gives the game some nice ambience.
Cons:
- Sadly the development of the game is very slow.

To sum it up:
I really enjoyed this game and I will definitely recomment this.
This is one of those games where "people come for boobs, but they stay for the story".

First Chapters are great, I'm still on the fence about the others, but its definitely A LOT better than some of the crap being peddled as adult *story* games on F95 and the internet in general. Well worth a look

The plot is so interesting I hardly notice that there's barely any porn in this porn game. The porn scenes that are available are quite nice. The main character has sensible proportions that aren't over exaggerated.

I'm looking forward to following the series and seeing how it progresses.

The Cure for Madness is an mystery AVN set in a modern lovecraft universe. Frankly, this is my first exposure to the Lovecraft universe and it has been pretty entertaining for me so far.

The writing of this AVN is very solid and will keep you on your toes. This is a VN with elements of adult content. So don't go into this game hopping you'll see some quick sex scene and hop off. This is a story that has a competent female MC whos not as dumb as brick who's willing not to fling to every guy who has a dick just for the sake of her horniness. The renders of the AVN are above average but nothing special. One this game excels is the creepiness aspect of it. The creatures and villains in these game are genuinely scary. It makes me feel fear for the characters, where they are in constant danger. I mainly play NTR games and the element of NTR in this game is excellent. Not to give any spoilers but the female MC path of NTR involves with two current branches. Each branch feels different and refreshing and caters to an a slow burn NTR planting seeds in each interactions.

There's no real downside to this game, while not an excellent game it is still a very good game to play and be compelled by who has an interest in a horror AVN.

Poor to average game, but what annoys me the most is that the dev decided to split it and starting from chapter 6 we have a different file for no good reason. Part 1 (i.e. chapters 1-5) isn't long (which 2.37 GB suggests too) and part 2 (chapter 6 at the moment) is pathetically short. Doing it like this is just laughable. I could understand if the file was over 5 GB in size (although I would still hate it) but it's half of that! Pointless.

It has average-good renders but many models are ugly and the MC is boring and one dimensional. There aren't any meaningful choices here either so all in all it doesn't stand out and is like dozens of other games.

I can't recommend this game and it goes on my ignore list, it's a waste of time IMO.

A good start.

The writing is competent, its visually quite decent. So far the choices seem to be mostly choosing between scenes, which is fine. Stuff like the library vs burger shop choice in the beginning is pointless and the game could do without it, but thats a minor point.

The sex scenes that are in the game are quite good. The best part of avns is setting up hot scenarios, and stuff like the massage parlor scene is fantastic. Hope to see a bit more action in the coming chapters.

A decent game but nothing more. It involves some Levecraft mythos but set in modern time. The problem with the story for me was it being too slow and not scary enough.

The graphics are rather nice. The sex scenes are present but quite rare.

So the writing on this game is excellent. Very much feels lovecraftian, and I am curious as to what will happen in the end. And the art is decent. Better then many. Characters are decently well-defined. What it does, it does very well. Its also very... very much a slow-burn. Played it for a while (not all the way).. there are a few sexy moments.. but it is like a softcore thriller, with bits of skin thrown in as fan-service before being pulled back into the action, rather then an H-game. Which is totally fine - if you're looking for a cool lovecraftian story (always great) enjoy it and the bits of H-content will be great little treats. If you're looking for something more intense, this is probably not for you.

Conclusion:
The Version CH.5 of this Game was a very Hot release, and it shows me once again why GrumpyGranny belongs to one of the Top 10 Developers in My Book.
The Renders are Great, no Blue Balling (O.K maybe sometimes), and fantastic Renders accompanied by a Nice Story makes this Game worthwhile, I just wished the Dev would bring out his game in more intervals...instead of every couple of months 1 release.
But the Dev has come a long way compared to his earlier releases.
Chapter 5 was a very hot release and hoping to see more coming soon.
Show you what needs to be done next,without getting lost.
The only thing that doesn't happen in this release where Sex scenes,but I still like it.
A game of my liking.

Very solid release.

Good artwork and renders, good dialogue, story actually kept me intriqued for the duration.

Attractive main girl, good overall flow.

-edit; updated review to 3 star as writing in chapter 5 is much lower quality than the writing in 1-4 - falls into lazy tropes and diverges from its originally unique story and relationship premise.

Only criticism sub 5stars is it's too short.

This game is great. I am excited about the story - there is one and so far seems well thought through. The renders look really good. The characters are engaging and the models look excellent. I'd like some more perspective into the world and the characters' circumstances that I'm supposed to know, but I do appreciate how what the characters are trying to do has a lot of unknowns around it.

Time played: Around 2 hours; reached end of content, did not go back for alternate scenes.

In spite of being a Lovecraft fan, that wasn't really what initially drew my interest to this game. Rather, it was the cute female protagonist and promise of some corruption. Though early, the game seems to be headed in the right direction with an interesting story and opportunities to send our heroine down some dirty paths.

Positives
+ Good story and characterizations...for the most part (Leon is an annoying prick and what kind of BF let's someone talk to his GF like that?)
+ Well-written with grammatically accurate english
+ Story is overall intriguing, though still in the set-up stage

Negatives
- Lovecraft isn't really done well, imo. (See note below if that matters to you at all.)
- Almost all scenes set at night or in darkened places are nearly impossible to see in detail. Lighting needs to be worked on or the images brightened to see the detail
- Might be a little too light on the pr0n for some


Those players who prefer less talk, more slam are going to want to keep walking as this game seeks to develop its characters and plot more than offer cheap thrills. Overall, if you enjoy story in games and the subject matter interests you, this is recommended. I've enjoyed what I've played and can't wait for Alice to start shaggin' those shoggoths!

Note to devs: Great start so far. I understand that going whole hog into Lovecraft's grimdark world might be a bit much for your vision for an adult game. I'm looking forward to seeing how your story plays out. Best of luck!

I pretty much liked this game. I haven't rated any VN for a while now but i thought this one was worth it and it's also worth your time. For me it definitely belongs to the top 10 VN games on here. The writing is believable and has a nice flow, the characters are nice to look at and the erotic scenes are written and introduced very well. It also has a nice pacing for my taste.

Some things i'd like to mention:

Generally speaking, if we seperate a sexual scene in 3 different parts, where the first one is "Talking/Flirting/Dirty talk", the second one "phsical contact (with clear intentions)" and the third one "sex" itself, most of the time where things get rushed too much is between part 2 and 3.
Sure, VN's aren't made to mirror realty but the whole thing's got to be believable and authentic.

What the Dev tried, and for the most part succeeded in this one is, he gave scenes enough time to develop a erotic tension and therefore, be (more) meaningful. The good and authentic writing did it's part too, not gonna lie.

I got to admit though, i don't really like it when nudity is shown very early in the game which is kind of the state where we are with VN's. But it's alright in this game, since it takes it's time at other occassions.


It'd also have been cool to have more choices all in all.



The game itself could use some more renders in general though. In my opinion it really would make a difference. Right now it sometimes feels like there is one picture to read 300 words of text which is sad, because the story is pretty well written and interesting to follow, and also the characters are nice to look at.

All in all i enjoyed my stay pretty much and I'll surely keep an eye out for this one. I just hope the dev keeps a cool head down the road and won't rush it.

Very promising, slow burn (didn't get a sexy scene until chapter 4 but apparently some are available earlier) somewhat text-heavy game that is well-written and seems thought out.
The horror elements, so far, are a grade above your typical AVN and while the game is rather verbose, the writing is pretty good too. Game choices are a bit limited, but quite well integrated into the story and seems to be much more about actually branching/diverging the storyline rather than just "sex scene yes/no?".

Could easily become a 5-star game if it keeps to this level of development, very recommended and endorsed for support!

[Ch.4 Fixed]

Oh my god, this game exceeded all my expectations. While I like cheating/corruption/NTR from the female protagonist POV, most devs totally botch the execution. What you usually find is some retard female surrounded by nothing but rapist molesters that you willingly throw yourself at, removing any kind of sexual tension. Or perhaps it takes the opposite approach and blue balls you for eternity.

This game got it just right. The female MC is smart and self reliant but not infallible, as she does find herself in a bind occasionally. The early game choices and character interactions are presented in a way that doesn't destroy your immersion to this fact that the MC is a "strong independent woman." A lot of games tell you one thing about the MC, yet fail to keep this image up if you start picking corruption choices. This game maintains some believable dynamics as you react to a slight touch here and a casual remark there. You feel like it's still within character for her to react this way. It seems like a common sense thing, but one that is broken in the majority of female protag corruption games.

The pacing is just right too. Right now, there is only one character who gets far with the MC, but this arc culminates into an amazing scene at the end of Ch.4. It was so damn hot, and it was delivered after establishing the right about of tension. It arrives at just the right time in terms of game length. The great thing about this (cheating) scene was that it didn't trigger based on some explicit choice by the player to cheat, but based on your previous choices and points accrued for this particular character. Maybe it's just me, but I prefer this type of trigger for a pivotal scene as it emphasizes the female MC succumbing to her repressed desires, rather than the player just outright making her cheat.

So far, I've just talked about the porn aspects of the game, but the writing as a whole is pretty impeccable. Most characters are well rounded. The grammar is flawless, as far as I can tell. The dialogues flow naturally. And the Lovecraftian main plot is pretty interesting and suspenseful on it's own. The models and camera work is definitely above average. The music is quite well selected. There really isn't anything to complain about.

If there is one thing that might put off certain players, it might be that this does seem to be strongly geared towards cheating/cuckold. It's not that you can't do a faithful run, but that would probably lead to a rather bare bones experience. The fiance of the female MC is quite frankly a typical beta scrub lol.

Also worth mentioning that there are a few POV shifts (one that includes choices). I thought it was effective, but maybe some people don't like that.

An excellent female protag NTR/cheating/cuckold story paired with an interesting Lovecraftian horror mystery.
