I personally find stronger stories or characterization more important than fetishes, length of video or a bunch of special effects.

Most creators just slap a generic archetype on a character and call it a day. No unique speech patterns, interesting relationship to the viewer or intriguing scenario. I very much want more research done on whatever IP is being looked at when a video is made. Reference lore, how the world works, tweak it, make a fanfic of a particular endings. It doesn't even have to be a big reference, just an offhand comment.

You can reliably swap scripts of the same archetype such as Bully, Mistress/Goddess, Tsundere, Slut, ect and I bet you most people couldn't tell the difference. This leads to almost all videos looking an sounding the same just with one or two fetishes swapped around, so I tend to dismiss those type of vids.

I do think you and desirejoi do a much better job on this than the majority of creators btw.

If we're talking AI art for example, what's stopping you from role-playing a hilichurl? Orc? Goblin? Maybe even a dragon if you really want to get freaky. What about pregnant sex? Or having ntr/netori story that features the girl visably getting knocked up midway through or something? I can forgive ai art as long as you do something neat with it. I still advocate for new and fresh scenarios. Something that's still not happening much.


IDK, maybe I'm bougie and expect too much. I like VN's so I enjoy reading more than most. I like context behind my fap.

Just wanted an excuse to type this out and yes unfortunately almost all the examples I gave is NTR related (Swinging/Netorase). Wanted to add in fetishes but that really depended on the creator and how it was executed.

  • How much effort went into editing.
    When a creator goes above and beyond to add in the small details like timely SFXs and screen effects, it enhances the immersion of a JOI vid; Bonus if the pacing is great too. Here are examples from

    has all kinds of gimmicks that sell the scene they want to tell and I just keep coming back because of how good I personally find the editing is.

  • What images were used.
    I accepted a long time ago that AI images will be inevitable and would see it a lot more but if a creator makes an effort into mixing in non-ai images or personalized images that fit the scene and not make the whole video saturated with just AI, I usually come back. A creator called

    (previously know as 8purpurpur) took up the Sisyphean task of actually hand drawing the content they'll use in a video, and with all the AI tools to make producing porn easier, that earnt my gratitude and respect even if their release schedule takes an eternity.

  • Dialogue and how a scene is written.
    I overlook grammatical errors I see in videos because not everyone knows and uses English.
    Since JOI videos are "slideshows" it better have passable dialogue at least; Better if some sort of structure/story is included because if executed well has usually better payoff. Examples are Roulettes, CYOA (Choose Your Own Adventure) -esque themes, Videos part of a series. (

    ). Videos are longer because of this and I am not saying longer videos are better, shorter videos usually get the job done ;)
tl;dr Micro/Small details matter!

Good pacing: A lot of bad videos progress too fast or too slow. Sometimes both at once, speeding to the "good" parts but then lingering on them for far too long. Even if the "scene" doesn't change, simply changing the image periodically can give a sense of progress.
Good image choice: Ties into the previous point. Pick images that are of good quality (AI is fine as long as it's not deformed or blurry or other obvious AI-isms) and match what you're trying to convey in that moment and have a smooth, logical progression from less to more "sexy" images. I've seen more than a few videos fail to stick the landing just by picking a relatively bland image for the final coom countdown.
Good dialogue: Correct spelling and grammar are the bare minimum. I'm willing to forgive a couple mistakes here and there but there's really no excuse when you're spending dozens of hours over the course of weeks or months writing, refining, and editing these. Creative writing, interesting scenarios, and accuracy to the character are all nice bonuses to make the script feel less generic but aren't strictly necessary.
KISS: Keep It Simple Stupid, Keep It Stupid Simple. Instructions, games, and interactive elements are cool and fun and can make videos more interesting and replayable, but you've gotta remember people are playing these with one hand (or no hands) and half their blood elsewhere.
Short videos are fine: The obsession with constantly making bigger, longer, more ambitious videos has definitely been a detriment to the space as a whole and lead to a lot of bloated videos with an absolute shitload of content of which I'm interested in maybe a quarter at most.I think I've only seen one video over an hour long where I was actually interested in all of it and where it couldn't have just been divided into multiple shorter videos.
Character choice: Definitely the most minor point here, but I'm 100% more likely to enjoy a technically bad video with a character I like or care about than I am a technically better video with a character I don't like or don't care about.
Voice acting: This one is more personal preference but bad voice acting is the #1 thing that ruins otherwise good videos for me. I understand it "feels" higher quality to have voice acting than not but none of the bitches you're gonna hire on fiverr can act their way out of a paper bag. If you have to have voice acting at least include an alternate no voice version for people that don't enjoy the voice.

That's just the points I can think of off the top of my head, there's definitely more.

I think all the major points I want to touch on already got mentioned but I still want to share my thoughts in my own words.

1. Decent scenario. Not the most important thing in the world but having just a little bit of backstory helps me feel more immersed in the video.

2. Character choice with dialogue to match. Since JOIs are glorified slideshows this is a no brainer. I’m not expecting the greatest writing in the world from people who want to beat their meat but having some decent writing that matches the character (a lot of creators seem to forget this part) goes a long way in my eyes.

3. Image choice. Also a no brainer. If you’re writing a handjob scene then use handjob images, a paizuri scene then use paizuri images. It’s a rather simple concept.

Regarding A.I there’s no reason 99% of the images used in a video should be A.I if you’re using an extremely popular character (it’s kind of absurd that vids of HOYOVERSE characters have all the images be A.I. creators can’t possibly be THAT lazy.) If you for whatever reason have to use A.I at least use refined ones that don’t have that gross rubbery look to them.

4. Instructions. It feels like this part is also widely neglected. Stroking at different paces for 25+ minutes isn’t all that interesting mix it up a little. Throw in some head strokes or ball play a few edges here and there (maybe a few more if you’re making an endurance video). I feel like there’s way more beyond just stroking fast but nobody bothers to experiment.

5. Pacing. It hard to explain this one but lingering too long on particular scenes makes the video really rough to go through or rewatch. There needs to be some sort of sweet spot of sorts.

6. Interactivity. Only really necessary for a few JOIs (namely roulette videos) but having little tasks do during or between rounds. Outside of roulette videos I enjoy videos with multiple routes with each route having its own dedicated fetish. Gives the video some rewatchability too.

I went on for quite a while but I really wanted to get my thoughts out especially since the database is just full of creators who pump out low effort videos that just want to make a quick buck.
