Hey Travis.
Just came upon this thread. It really brings me back... Your UI is pretty good. Nothing I can add there. There are things about the renders... just remember you can ignore me... I think...
1. Depending on yoir motivations its probably right to spend 700 - 1k on a card if you can. It really is the bare minimum and saves you a lot of hassle...
2. You need a good expression pack. Each character should have a signature expression. Something simple like a sexy or playful look. You then use it as your base and edit from there.
3. Since the environments are medicore, this is fine by the way... but you should use very heavy depth of field to cover it up a bit and add an illusion of quality. Something like 10 - 22 DOF for far shots and 22 - 40 for close ups...
Not telling you to rerender or anything like that... You mentioned my game in one of your posts and im sitting here 2am in a hotel room on a business trip... thought id give my two cents. Oh you can message me daz questions if you like. I am usually extemely busy but Ill get back to you... kind of know what it is like to get started...
Holy hell...
Sorry, I always get slightly awed and surprised when established developers peek into my little corner of this den of iniquity!
Thank you for the time taken to give me some feedback - it really is appreciated.
Aye, the UI is one thing I'm actually happy about
Although, with this being me, it did go through half a dozen variations until I was of course.
As to the rendering. Again, I concur. Although sadly the old financial limitations are my main stumbling block. A 1k card would be heaven. Currently my whole rig cost around 600....and this game is being cranked out on a 2Gb card so....um. Yeah. Which of course means, even with some clever cheats, I'm having to trade off quality vs quantity. A better card would naturally increase both as I could dispense with many of the short cuts I'm currently having to make. But sadly, that's a money thing so little I can really do about it
As to the environment. Yetch. Agreed. I loathe, -loathe- working with the spaceship interior. It's an old Poser model that I've reskinned and modded as best as I could, but sadly it was the only one that even came halfway to a realistic depiction for internal logic. Thankfully I only need it for this opening chapter and I will be glad to see the back of it! It's just a bloody shame that the first chapter will have the worse graphics, but there seems little I can do about that.
"Not telling you to rerender or anything like that...". Of course I'm now having an utter crisis of confidence and am thinking of doing exactly that
But having done that so many times already, I'd better not else I'll end up in vapourwear hell.
Finally, thank you so much for your generous offer of help. It really is appreciated.
