I just finished the invasion of Yhilin and I felt compelled to come make this post... this game is amazing. Not just for an rpg maker game but as a storytelling game in general. Though I would say -especially- for an rpg maker game, lol. I have actually downloaded this game and played the intro two previous times before this just based on random raving reviews I had seen floating around. It was alright. Surprised me with its tone at parts but also completely lost me with cheesy things like one of your initial party member's name, terminology for some ingame lore/events, the very default game assets and what at first appearance seemed to be an all too common tacked on battle system for an adult game. I decided I would push through this time and I am incredibly happy with that decision. I find myself playing long stretches after adult scenes end and having absolutely no issue when I hit a dry spell for a while. To be honest, while very well written, most of the scenes aren't even my thing. Yet I find myself doing 6-10 hours binges of this game when I have the time. I've consulted guides to ensure completion of sidequests, replayed sessions for minimal political gains and spent hours going out of my way just to get a few more seconds of smiling pixel portraits from my party members. Because I care about the characters in this game and what is happening in their world. Actually can't believe how complex the choices and consequences are for your decisions in this game and they never stop coming. This is the 1% tier for compelling adult games and rpg maker both. However, I would like to see some of this game's revenue put back into character art, custom sprite work, more visual scenes or possibly an rpg maker mv conversion when this game begins to near the end, similar to Roundscape: Adorevia. It does suffer from very few custom assets and the date of the engine.

Tl;dr - This game is awesome. Try it, endure the build up, have fun and support it if you can. This quality in an adult game is precious.

I've seen this mentioned a few times and while it's true when it came to characters, Sierra did replace all the enemies with custom made images.

However, I would like to see some of this game's revenue put back into character art, custom sprite work, more visual scenes or possibly an rpg maker mv conversion when this game begins to near the end...

When it came to making the scenes visual, Sierra did wish to do that, but at this point the amount of work needed (we're closing on having 200 scenes in game with game being about 75% done) makes it near impossible to find an artist willing to take on the job. Not to mention that cost of it would probably be astronomical.

As for changing character art... at this point game is over four years old so doing that would be an equivalent of recasting an actor after 3rd season in some TV show (which is not a good idea). Finally, I can't understand why people like RPGM MV so much... as end user I find it the worst version of the RPGM so I hope she never do that.

RPGM Vx Ace use ruby (one awful language if i see one), MV javascript (another terrificant language, better of ruby, but ...)
rewrite all the script/code/dialogue/etc... from ruby to JS is out of the question (it can be take a full year or more), and many of the custom script TLS use (the harem panel for example) don't know if there is an equivalent for MV.

Oh, I can somewhat understand why a developer would use MV over VX Ace. What I can't understand is why would someone prefer MV over VX Ace as an end user since there is really not that many benefits to playing a game in MV (mouse control possibly being the only one). I never had an RPGM game crash until I started playing MV games which crash quite often due to memory issues (having 8GB RAM doesn't help if MV can only use 2GB).

Hell, I still can't figure out why MV opens up four separate processes to run (VX Ace use only one process)...

One of the biggest criticisms of RPG Maker used to be the lack of multi-platform options. Since RM95 the engines were so dependent on Windows that even as far as Ace graphic rendering was still made through GDI+. So MV made it possible to play RM games on your phone but sadly it's also extremely poorly optimized, since it's basically just Chromium executing giant JS scripts. Doesn't help that Yoji Ojima never worked with JavaScript before MV so he took the path of least resistance when designing the thing.

(On a completely unrelated topic I think I'm one the very few people who actually don't like Sierra Lee's writing. I basically clicked on this thread by accident.)

It's dumb af but knowing that I have to play as Simon kinda turned me off from the game, as I'm not a fan of playing as old characters (The Witcher being an exception), or characters that I cannot create and/or name. Guess it's cuz I somewhat like to project myself in the game.

He is not the first or the last but he is and will be playing the game. He is in the beginning so in time as he gets more into the story maybe he will change his mind and love playing as Simon or maybe he will not and leave the game, but you are the first to say that you won't play this game over this facts or even when you started you told that the beginning was the most stupid thing you have ever seen in a video game. So we should be sad not you over the fact that the game is 2014 but you are asking about name changing or over the fact that you play as a old dude, but how do you know that you are playing as a old dude maybe he will be younger or maybe he will stay same you will never know because you have 0.1% progress in this game.
