HTML - The Monastery [v0.9.0.1] [Alcahest]

This is like a 3.5 star for me today, but I can see it becoming a 4-to-5 star. Mechanics are kinda unique, easy to grind, but there is still a lot of repetitive actions required. Sex content is okay... I hope things get more depraved as time goes on but the MC is written as if he doesn't want to fuck women (religious reasons) so... I'm curious how that will play out. Obviously he does fuck women, but... anyways, just play it to find out, it's at least decent and should only get better in time.

Long have I been a fan of Paradise Found. The writing was superb, the characters well-developed, and just the right amount of faplay ratio.

The Monastery (v0.3) is living up to Alcahest's high standard! This time, using my favorite of all engines: Twine.

The story is so well developed, the spelling and grammar have no flaws that I've noticed (and I get quite picky sometimes), and only once did I think I hit end-of-content where I was just about to close it when suddenly something else happened. I am taking a break to write this.

Alcahest, you are a legend. I'm proud to be a follower of two games now. I didn't know it was you when I started this one, only found out when I went to write this review!

I guess as a necessary balance I should say something negative. Only thing I can think of would be a toggle switch for the horror nun videos at certain points. I'm okay with it, but there's definitely a fear boner factor involved for those small bits. Possibly not for everyone, let the Sisters experience the horror, I'll simply cure them with my Holy Rod, Holy Seed

Big fan of the creator's previous work I waited long enough before trying The Monastery as I knew I wouldn't be able to mentally overcome the frustration from the end of current content. Well, nothing else to play anyway, therefore my review for the version v0.2.0.8
1) Amazing writing and really profound knowledge of the subject that is knitted in perfectly in the scenes and the game overall
2) The talent to link the text to what is happening on the screen is unspeakable as always. In the backmind I understand that the author had to write it in a way the available content allows him to but the logic and writing is there so it does not sound artificial.
3) Lot of content already and when I thought I'm over with the quests the new big path opened up.
4) Girls are beautiful, theme is intriguing
5) The horror part caught me off guard and I loved it, for me it was a great immersion into the plot and the game itself
6) Not grindy at all and even if there is some it's all justified and as a player I understand these or thoses decisions of my character or other characters.
Many, many more...

As of what I'm anticipating to find later in the game is deeper connection with some girls, longer build-up. Theesomes, of course. More horror scenes, for sure. And some content with townfolks at the chapel (it has this veil of surprise and unpredictability that I'm fond of very much, when you click on the room and think, what if a new girl/event there).

Best of luck to the dev, there is purely no competition when it comes down to real porn games.

Great game dev seems like they put real work into it I would highly recommend, if you do not like games that talk about god or religion I wouldn't play this game but I think that's pretty obvious have a good one

My favorite game with a religious theme so far. It's a bit of a slow burn in the beginning and at times a bit confusing . (You actually have to read to progress in a text based game, can you believe it?)
At this point some of the erotic content feels a bit repetitive as you need to "grind" to have enough stats to progress, but that's part of the gameplay aspect and I don't have any good suggestions on how to do it differently.
Overall I'm very excited to see how the future updates pan out and what kind of new content we get.

In version 0.2.0.8 the game has little content but it really shows whats it will deliver, a great game, great lore, perhaps too soon to call it a masterpiece? will def check the others games from the dev

Outstanding Game!
The dev clearly found a balance formula between grinding, porn, and some kind of puzzle system where you've got to reach certain level of excitment to unlock new actions.
The system is complex enought to make the game interesting but simple enought to provide a great gameplay.
And there is this stunning blue eyed nun... candy to my eyes!

This is a masterpiece.

I was really looking forward to Alcahest's new game especially because I liked their previous work. I was unfortunately quite disappointed so far with this game. While I do like the UI and the general layout of this game, I don't think the content is very engaging.

The visuals are also quite low quality, but that's more the fault of the real-porn rather than the developer. However there seems to be too much filler going on and not enough guidance to actually get to any of the sex content. This is a porn-game afterall, but I have yet to see any actual scenes aside from a couple of trivial ones after a lot of grinding through scenes. I also wish that there would be some indicator that a location no longer has any new events in it rather than having to click through everything.

Finally, I feel like this game is more of a VN then sandbox. A lot of choices are one dimensional and the story runs seemingly pretty linearly.

I will wait for future versions to see if the game gets more engaging, and if so I will edit this review. But for now, I'm personally not a huge fan.

Excelent start with a lot of content, very nce themed GUI and decent size buttons. Visuals are good, although some a re low res. What I did not like is the lack of choice. Or at least a meaningful choice. Because choices like" investigate the thick wall" and "leave" are no real choices. However, the game has a lot of pottential even as a VN. So congrats to the author and crossing fingers he will continue developing it!

Your typical "click until the next scene" type of game. Dialog and story are very well written, absolutely loved the tidbits of information on history/religion. Can be a little tedious trying to figure out what needs to be done next but overall as expected. Looking forward to more!

It's hard to see a game with this much content in version 0.1. I don't know much about Catholicism, it's a very logical progression, and I even wonder how the main character ends up with the patriarch.

For the initial release this game is excellent. Lots of work went into the storyline. It is an excellent tale of corruption and transgressive self-seduction. If religious church taboo is your game, you must play this. If you are not put off by religious themes in sex, it's still great. Fantastic research, writing with very good English. The ladies are nice too.

I am impressed, I really liked the beginning. I hope crossdressing is planned in the future, although it is hardly worth hoping for this, judging by the direction taken. It would be nice to remove the mandatory torture in the future if the character raises his corruption sufficiently

I just randomly found this game and tried just to kill some time while i was downloading something.. but then it turned out super great game.. i just played it smoothly and turned out it's the game from paradise found dev which once was my favorite game on this site... hands down 5/5

Game system, hot nuns, stories and the whole vibe of the game is just fresh and brand new!

Surprisingly good for an initial release. I can second all reviews below me, just want to notice that this is not a regular "free-roam-twine-with-porn" game, but more of a VN with some degree of freedom and stats balancing.
Also, don't miss out a horror tag. It's really horror, with jumpscares, for god's sake.

I'm genuinely impressed with the writing. Not in a "It's good porn writing" way, but in a "This shows an impressive level of historical and theological understanding way". In a porn game.

I know that might not sound like a major selling point, but so many of the ideas referenced in the game, like sin eating, have a genuine history to them which gives the game a level of seriousness that develops the tone of the game. This is the most plot I've scene in a game of this type. If I ever get caught with my trousers down looking at sexy Nuns, at least I'll be able to say it's for the articles.

It's not the game is overly serious. So far the central theme is that of an investigation into possibly supernatural events conducted by a Vatican investigator. Delightfully blasphemous and heretical, and a fair amount sexy. Still, I'd be lying if I said the quality of the writing hasn't stolen the show. I'm not sure if I'm more interested in the porn or the story and that's a good thing.

I guess I'm supposed to comment on the gameplay. As far as that goes, it's not about building stats as it is about balancing them. Events through the day will build lust/temptation which help unlock other events. This is not a grinding your stats up game, it's a light puzzle game where too much lust means you have to flagellate and reduce it, not enough lust and you can't build the temptation to sin. Not too difficult, not too easy, not simply clicking the same button over and over to get enough points to do the next thing.

While there isn't a whole lot there yet in terms of porn for my tastes, this is a stunning start.

Great job, you actually managed to make a twine game that feels similar to the style of paradise found but with a completely new story. As always, the writing and pacing is very well done, and being a huge Umberto Eco fan I appreciate the homage to rose..

WOW!!! I am stunned. This plot/story is well thought out and very impressive!!! I couldn't stop playing this one until I reached the current end. Hats off to the developer. There is quite a bit of content for an initial release.
I will most definitely be watching for future updates of the "The Monastery'.

Alcahest, please don't give up on this one. I think it's a true gem already.

Played 0.1 version. Really promising so far. There is already more content here than I expected from a first release. The game so far gives a good demonstration of the mechanics. The story is interesting. The writing is good. The media assets are surprisingly good (considering the niche theme). One minor gripe is that the intro is a tad bit long, it takes a while before you get into the main game loop.
I definitely recommend you check it out.

Extremely good first release. Story, dialogs, plot - good level. Sometimes feels a little bit slow in progress, but it is a solid 1h game already.
Not many fetishes though, but it is a matter of taste.
