Who cares? I'm by no means a fan of AI. However it's never going to stop. AI isn't a fad or trend. At this point AI will probably be here after everyone on this thread is dead. Either because we die of old age or AI decides to kills us.

I'm a huge fan of AI and acknowledge it's huge potential as a tool. I won't deny the staggering amount of AI slop however.

I'm just going to say it, this recent flood of AI drawn games sucks.
It's a voluntary design that only the improvement in technology was able to offer us; games that sucks, and then let us both hands available to actually play them...

Okay fuck me, I can't sleep so I'm gonna reply once more.

This isn't a "New Scourge" it's a completely normal problem. Laziness. I'm not saying AI is lazy. It's a tool and like any tool it can be used correctly or incorrectly. The problem with AI in games isn't bad devs or even shitty art. It's the fact that AI is often used as a shortcut. As an artist(not a good one) I think it's progressing too fast.

AI is just a different way of getting images. Not everyone is an artist, but pretty much anyone can ask ChatGPT or something similar. I play DnD. All of the DMs villain's are from the a source book or AI.

I think this is an old problem that is being projected on new tech. A lack of passion. There can be a passionate dev using AI art. There can also be a great artist who couldn't give two flying shits about quality or gameplay. However there will always be devs who don't care. And my problem is they've started using AI.

In conclusion: The problem isn't AI it's lack of passion.
thanks for coming to my TED talk.

The one benefit of AI is that now the NTR fans are a lot more peaceful and relaxed now something else is getting all the flak.

Authenticity.

It is a shocking lack of authenticity.

In this bullshit grift economy, fueled by gig work and scam hawking influencers, I have never put more of a premium than I do now on authenticity.

Scrolling through YouTube recommendations, if I see an obviously Gen-AI thumbnail, that channel gets added to the blacklist. I've even done it to channels that I liked, because they started turning out content so fast that they were turning into slop, and started using bad Gen-AI thumbnails to keep up with their absurd content output. At that point I know they're not putting out content that you care about, they're just trying to reach a quota to game the algorithm. So fuck them and their mostly scrapped off of wikipedia script about the SR-71 Blackbird, I'm going to go watch a real authentic autist geek the fuck out about it instead.

My favorite shit is people who are authentically passionate about their particular topic. They usually have very boring thumbnails, or ones that look like a surrealist kaleidoscope of clip-art (looking at you LazerPig and BlackPantsLegion). I'll take someone being authentically bad over sleek Gen-AI every single fucking time. I want someone to be themselves and be judged on their own merit, not hide behind the output of a globe spanning content stealing black-box created by out of touch tech-bros and fueled by venture capitalist ghouls.

But hey, the Gen-AI bubble will pop eventually. Open AI literally cannot afford to keep raising billions in venture capital only to keep losing billions to operate. When the money tap slows or closes, the amount they'll need to charge to have any hope of making the service profitable will be orders of magnitude more than they do now. All of the slop lords are going to toss in the towel once their subscription does a 10X or 20X jump in price.

Oh I get this 100%. As an autistic geek I will say my problem really was the lack of passion not authenticity. AI just feels soul less sometimes. IMO the passion behind certain projects fixes that for me. I'm not a fan of slop, but not everything needs to be steak. If pyrocynical needs to make daily slop so he can get to talking about petscop again(dead meme deployed) I don't mind.
