VN - Ren'Py - The Shrink R&R [Season 2 v2.8] [OneManVN]

I played the first game this dev created up to a point, before it became so bad, I couldn't stomach it anymore.

New game, new chance, I thought, and tried again.
And for the first one or two versions I played, it was alright enough, just like before, but then it rapidly took a turn for the worse and from there steadily dove deeper.

The story is inane, the writing is a convoluted mess (with that I mean it just meanders from here to there and back and jumps over there etc.. it also veers completely into a new course at least two times) and without any nuances, the characters are not even two-dimensional, they are one-dimensional.
The dialogue, oh man, the dialogue. Just horrible. So completely unnatural and ridiculous. It almost hurts to read.
And the renders, while not horrible, are also nothing great. The hair colours and cuts are probably the worst and as usual with this dev, the butts of certain characters are ginormous. If you like that, great, if you like a certain ratio between breasts, hips, butt etc.. this might not be that great.

All it amounts to basically is some ridiculous, nonsensical reason for the MC to have a lot of girls living in his house, several actually being maids/almost slaves, and having sex with all of them, including his own family.

It's just too much and nothing really makes up for this basic bitch of a plot.
If the other factors were good, you could just take it in stride, but since dialogue, characterization and even renders are either average or just as bad, this has become quite the clusterfuck.

I have my thoughts as to why this happens with so many games, but they aren't just specifically related to The Shrink, so I'll put it in spoilers, read if you are interested:

I do feel tempted to give this just one star, but if I compare the game to some of those I rated like that, at least this one can be halfway understood and if you just want porn without the excuse of a story, you can probably even have some fun with it, so I'll leave it at two-stars.

I didn't like the first few versions ,
I find this work is getting better and better as the version is updated ,
The plot and setup are less and less unflattering ,
The progress of the work deserves a five star .

This game has more straight guy fucking Tranny content than any other game I have played on here. Left it on because usually its only one on the game and its never been anything serious and once you know who it is you simply severely limit contact with them during the game. No can do on this one buddy. If you don't want tranny contact turn tranny off at get go. If not be advised it will be almost unavoidable as the game pushes you into it. Almost like the psycho liberal lesbian destroy all men villain in the game. Very irritating content.

The animations actually suck badly because they are poorly done. There is more animations here than usual so that should have been great but these stunk royally.

For such detail written into the man hatred part of the story you would think more detail would be there for the family members he is pursuing, Sadly I completed 4 gb of content and still don't know much about the MC's messed up ass family.

Pregnancy huh? Well there are certainly plenty of creampies for it but sadly no one has said they are confirmed pregnant and certainly no one looks it either.

Wow it went from men with shrunken dicks to dead guys running around with raging boners quickly enough. Somebody couldn't figure out what the hell they were trying to do for a plot apparently. Lots of wierd insane shit written here. I think I may need to see a Shrink after having played through this game.

I do see this game continuing but unfortunately I do not see it improving. Its a complete cesspool the way it is written at already 4gb of content how do you fix and improve that without using a match. This is my opinion and yours may be entirely different.

The premise of the story is interesting, and the realization not this bad. Of course, the story seem a bit odd, but there's more thoughts behind it than in most pure porn games.
The multi routes approach is also interesting. Globally it's a choice between a submissive and a dominant MC, but with variations accordingly to the girls personality. The choices matters and really tweak the story ; a pleasure.
And there's a lot of girls in this game, with or without cock.

At the start of the second chapter, every decision you previously made become meaningless.
Except two girls, to whom you're given a new opportunity to submit, all will now be your submissive sluts. But well, you're now given one possibility to impregnate them ; yeah, "one", not "a" nor "the", it's a one time thing.

Oh, wait... Forgot what I just said ; except the lot of girls and dicks.

At the start of the third chapter it's all the girls that now submit to you, whatever your previous choices were.
It's too early to tell it for sure, but I have the feeling that the girls you impregnated also have had an abortion.


The game by itself isn't bad, and the story can possibly be interesting for the players, but the total lack of constancy regarding the previous choices is really killing it.
Unless you want to play a dominant MC, what is the route you'll be slowly forced into, the game do not worth it. You'll start building the submission of your MC, and slowly discover that you're an Alpha wolf in a harem of submissive sheep.
And to be honest, if you want to play a dominant MC you'll have to pass through the obscure choices of the first chapter, what can feel boring for some peoples.

Has potential. Good renders, and a good overall story. But the game is completely messed up:
* at least 2 gameplay changes (0.4, 0.6) where the game was not retrofitted.
* even in an parody, get at least some excuse why a 23-year old virgen suddenly fucks everyone in sight.
* not really clear what choices imply. there are those triple-warning "are you sure, permanent decision" choices that are just ignored after a few scenes.
* choices mean locking you out of a lot of content. And I cannot believe that there are people that really replay (by pressing "skip") a game just to see lost content.
* Inconsistencies. Scenes that are played just do not match previous decisions.
* The begin of the game was good. But at some point, it got to just putting sex scenes with all available characters into sequence. I do really not need endless sex scenes. Story IS important.
* Too many characters. And still introducing new? Stop it! Rather imagine that: A mom, a sis, a bro (trans/sissy). Maid (girl/trans) . That is 4, as opposed to 9. Depending on kinks, enable different paths for them. OR use 9 chars, with predefined paths. MC can choose which to follow.

THE SHRiNK [v0.7] is a hard game to describe, much less review, as it makes very little sense overall. A reconstruction might be as follows: the central character, Alex, is celebrating his twenty-third birthday. He lives at home, out in the middle of nowhere with his mom and three sisters. A standard flag-bearer of harem scenarios, he’s a fatherless, hopeless virgin, who somehow succeeds in seducing his family into sex. Other characters—all transgender and optional—are introduced later on: a cousin, the maid of the house, and an old friend. While this is happening, there is a science experiment gone wrong, and a ‘satire’ (I use the term loosely) of American politics, the COVID-19 pandemic, and of zombie action films occurs back in forth.

Every once in a while, a chyron indicates cheer up, don’t take things too seriously (Fair enough; after all, it’s a comedy.) However, the humor is contextless, and its sensibility derived from internet culture, and things start feeling a little too familiar. The cast is better on this front. Alice is the cute redhead, kind and generous, she makes for a good love interest. She's lovable and innocent. Melissa is fit, athletic, with purple hair. She's a female dominant type, cruel in an older sister type of way. Aiko is the bratty sister, who takes after Melissa, the youngest and most outwardly violent out of the three. Unrealistic and exaggerated, this game has a outré-anime style and feel. The body types represented here are fuller, and more curvy: large breasts, hips, asses, with flat, defined stomachs. The overall effect is pleasing. The models look good, and the animations get better as the game goes on, as do the renders. The mother, Leliana, is the most fleshiest member of the family, though she’s barely in the game. The transgender girls take up more time, which comprises of three people, Karishma, Brenda, and Vanessa. They’re cute and harmless. The sex scenes are great, though there isn't much way of character development (surprise, everyone loves the MC!) or story, the style is enough to pick up the slack on this end.

The game is brimming with content, there are many paths and options available here. There’s the love and lust routes, dominant, submissive routes, and you can choose a specific girl, of which there are several, meaning multiple playthroughs are required to see the whole thing. Is it worth the investment? In terms of available content, certainly. Otherwise, you'll learn everything you want to learn from the game in the first ten minutes.

If THE SHRiNK leaned into its strengths and focused on the family members and culled the extraneous stuff around the game, mainly the nonsensical story-within-a-story, it would be a better game for it. For now, the game is a mess, but it doesn’t have to be. There are no real characters, and the story is a self-parody, and scenes begin and end at a whim. That’s not a bad thing in and of itself, but it’s unsure of what it wants to be tonally, a boner comedy, a porn game, or a genre bending thriller. The SHRiNK could use a shrink. Some trimming and sharpening the family dynamics are two things that would improve the game dramatically. Just don't make it all story, that would be a mistake.

Its hard to describe why im giving this only 3 stars, but i think that this game simply didnt give me the satisfaction of playing it. Nothing in this game really made me feel aroused. I read quickly through the story with little regard for my little soldier.

I can understand people complaining about the story, but I think these people are forgetting what types of games these are. If the story is well structured and enthralling great, but the story for these types of games only job is to serve the "plot" and that's really it. If its more then that its a plus, what actually matters more is the character interactions and the relative development and progress between them. The story here in these types of games is only to set up the possible interactions, the progress in the relationships, and also allow for more unique events/situations then you could in "real life", which is obviously the whole point of this genre.

The problem though that can happen is the story structure restricting these possible interactions or limiting them in some way due to the rules it sets up for itself.

Does the story do what it needs too? Yes, and fast tracks the relationships with the virus thing, which is fine, it does its job. Its not completely fucking crazy that it would be immersion breaking, like I have seen in other games.

The renders are really nice and the girls have great proportions and are hot as fuck. I think they have gotten better over the more recent updates, which I hope he eventually makes it retroactive to be more consistent. But its not an immediate issue. Honestly render quality for me can be a deal breaker on whether I really try the game. Unless the game has something to carry it over the render quality.

Another complaint I have seen is that the girls proportions are "unrealistic"..... I mean, you probably could find someone that looks like em but it would be uncommon, but besides the point its a fucking game. No shit its unrealistic, its a fantasy, its not real. If ya want real go outside and Godspeed.

The animations are really, really good. Very smooth and not stuttering due to low framerate, though the only complaint I have is the lack of more angles in those scenes, when you only get one or two right now. More static angles could really add to the immersion. One game I think that does it really well is Echoes of Lust and Summertime with Mia, I really think those games have the best way to handle the sex scenes cause it allows for relationship progress and interaction over the scene between the characters but also allows for you to go back to scenes ya want to watch again during the event.

I think the game has some really awesome and hot girls, scenes/renders, and that makes me keep coming back to this game and this Devs games, just needs more content and polish. Another suggestion that could help with content and quality is have fewer girls then there are now, or at least focus more on the main cast and have fewer side characters, so you can focus more on them and develop them more deeply. I do think there might be too many so the Dev is more spread out on who gets content and makes the game feel thinner.

I picked this game based on the tags. Yet after playing around 30 min I had to drop it and delete it from my rig. Yes I liked the tags yet it became painfully clear that visually this game does absolutely nothing for me.
My main beef with this game are the models. Not only the milfs, but the teens were huge, chunky with legs like a trunks without a hint of elegance.
I have nothing against Rembrand-type women yet that's another level of deformity devoid of any artistic value. The games are supposed to be an escape from the ugliness of reality - actually the women in my life a by far better looking than any of these models.

I am writing the review as a reminder to self to ignore this game in the future.

I'm not honestly sure what to think of this one. The story is a little all over the place, but a decent premise. I think. I may have misunderstood it.

Graphically it is quite good, some characters are little funky looking, but many are really good. I'd say its definetly worth a try, but temper your expectations.

Ok, so I'm gonna be quick. I liked the start a lot but after a couple of updates, I lost the ball. I tried to follow the story but I promise you I don't know what the fuck is going on. Scenes are popping from everywhere with no fucking meaning behind them at all. Either this guy doesn't know how to write a story or this guy doesn't know how to write a story, there is no other explanation. 1 star for renders and 1 for animations everything else is pretty much garbo.

Wow. All I can say is this was Impressively disappointing.

Played the initial release and thought it was a VN that had potential to be a real hit. Solid foundations for a decent story, even if somewhat cliché (But i mean, what VN on this site isn't cliché?).

I naively returned to the 0.52 release with the hope of being thoroughly entertained and enjoying some one handed gaming . But what i found was a real Thelma and Louise type game. No I don't mean a great story about empowerment. I mean it fell off a fucking cliff.

The game is essentially just a dick-girl fetish fest with some pussy on the side.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy dick girl action as much as the next man but even I thought it was too much. Perhaps it would be bearable if there was any tiny little crumb of a coherent story or multi-faceted characters but unfortunately those have been long forgotten and instead have been replaced with a reliance on hollow sex scenes with average looking renders/ animations.

The only thing saving this game from being a 1 star is the metric ton of Hopium that I keep taking with the hope that OneManVN can get this VN back on track.

Will probably play once its completed but good god expectations are low now.

I'd give it 2.5 stars if possible because the game is just below average. The game is really mediocre. there are a times where scenes will come in out of nowhere like the pizza delivery girl suddenly being in the house after having sex with the maid or Melissa having femdom sex with mc even if you go with the maledom path ( the dev has tried to justify this but its just a really bad justification). The game seems like there are either scenes missing or the dev is just bad at story telling.

Encountered a series of bugs. Game was literally jumping to different time periods for scenes. Latest was having fun with Aiko while others watched movie, then maid steps in as it should half way through having sex with her suddenly character have sex with delivery girl out of no where (no transition) , then sex with Mellissa (no transition and had not done anything with her yet) they to a scene with Mellissa playing with another unknown girl. No transition scenes in between. Then everything just returns to normal progression. This is the 3rd such time that scenes have jumped like this. Multiple characters in speech have referred to scenes that did not happen. I am not using a mod. But bugs are bad enough that if it happens again will walk away as it has made the story a jumbled mess for me. There was also the introduction of another room-mate character that comes out of no where and acts as if she has always been there but talks like she doesn't know anything about what happens in the house on a daily basis.
