Thinking of creating a One Piece VN, doubts with copyright

To be honest, I'm really unsure that using an existing IP means creating an audience more easily.

Nearly all the big money makers are using an original IP.

Fair enough. But I'd also argue that there's quite a few making huge profits with parody/IP works. Many well over $10k/month.

TwistedScarlett is upwards of $12k/month with her My Hero VN, though that might be more due to her previous game. Ferdafs is private with Rick and Morty, but with 2500 Patreons, he's likely making around the same. Four Elements Trainer is well over 7,000 Patreons, and you could argue that it's only using the characters and not the story, but it's still IP nonetheless. You could arguably toss SexNote in there, as well, based off story alone. Naruto stuff, as well.
