Hey everyone, I’m currently working on my first visual novel, and I’ve just reached the point of writing my first sex scene. The thing is, I still haven’t decided whether to show genitals or not. I know it might sound a bit weird. Like, you could say: “Okay, you’re making an adult game that includes sex scenes, so why avoid showing genitals?”
Well, I do have my reasons for it, and I’d really love to hear your thoughts too. I honestly need some feedback on this. Thanks in advance.
So, my game is actually pretty unique: it’s set in an alternate reality of World War II (1944), and it’s heavily focused on romance, philosophy, storytelling, and character building. I write everything like a novel, and the romantic/sexual parts are handled more like what you’d see in movies or read in books rather than full-on adult games.
Since I’m aiming for a serious tone with dark twists and a deep ending, I feel like turning it into a “full porn game” wouldn’t fit the overall direction. Yes, there will be nudity, sexual tension, and intimacy, but no explicit genitals.
Maybe my logic sounds a bit silly, but here’s my short version:
If my game is going to be about story, romance, philosophy and all that, then focusing too much on raw sexual visuals just feels unnecessary. It’d only distract both me from my main goal and the player who might be looking for something else.
I totally understand that many players here are looking for pure adult games, and that’s perfectly fine, porn is an art form, and everyone has the right to play what they like.
But in my mind, the story has emotional and intimate moments that feel more like softcore scenes, the kind you’d normally see in movies or TV shows.
So I want to make it clear that my game isn’t a full-on porn VN. I don’t want to mislead anyone, it’s a story-driven title first and foremost, not a pure porn game.
